Ninove to Geraardsbergen (24 km)
Ninove to Geraardsbergen (24 km)
This Sunday let's go back to the Flemish Ardennes, with a hike that is a direct continuation of one we did in November (from Ede to Ninove). We start at the train station of Ninove and cross some small wetlands (probably rather muddy after the last weeks' snow and rain) before we reach the Dender, which we follow for some kilometers. After turning away from the river we walk through the Rappaillebos and enter Geraardsbergen via the Oudenberg and its famous chapel before descending into town for a final drink. As the number of participants is limited, it is important that you manage your registration responsibly: only sign up if you really intend to come and cancel as soon as you know you can’t (this also goes for people on the waiting list!). We will try to keep close to an average speed of about 4.5 km/h. We will walk mainly on unpaved roads. I’ve not tested this track beforehand, so it’s possible that there are some mistakes in the planning (i.e. it may become longer ;-). ●●You can find the gpx track here: **Wikilocs:** https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/von-ninove-nach-geraardsbergen-247100040 **Komoot**: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/2678108792?share_token=aNZK7ki12VaQOwZvBkWxpd1wcmr8EK9LlHzfDCV13MtnJFYbTv&ref=wtd ●●Meeting point: We meet at 8h30 in the main hall of Gare Central, in front of Starbucks (sorry for the early start, I need to be back in town for a concert) and take the train at 8.45 (IC3631 to Gent). We change in Denderleeuw and arrive in Ninove at 9.32 ●● Train tickets: BXL-Ninove 5.00€ or 3.00€ with Train+, Geraardsbergen-BXL 6.40€ or 3.90€ with Train+ ●● Back to Brussels: From Geraardsbergen there are two trains back every hour, at XX.55 direct (52 min to Gare Central) and at XX.07 via Denderleeuw (1h 08 min to Gare Central). ●● Specifics: Distance: ca 24 km Elevation gain: 150 - 200m Net walking time: ca 5.5 h Weather forecast: fresh, fairly dry In the unlikely case of too bad weather, we may cancel a hike, even few hours before the event. If this must happen, we will of course update the Meetup website and send out an email to those registered. So it is important to have access to either the Meetup.com website and/or your emails. ●● What to bring: * Comfortable hiking clothes &shoes * rain gear (just in case) * water and drink for the breaks * Compeed for blisters * some small money for drinks ●● Basic rules: Please RSVP only if you really intend to come. And if your plans change, update your RSVP asap, even hours before the walk. This is basic courtesy towards others. Repeated late cancellations are not well considered (at all). No-shows are even worse. Do not show up for a hike unless you are on the “going” list. ●● Acknowledgement of member responsibility and release of liability: You are responsible for yourself and should be fit enough if you want to take part. As the participation in the events is strictly voluntary and you freely choose to join, it is the responsibility of individuals participating to ensure that they are fit enough and have adequate coverage to protect themselves. By signing up for this event, you agree to release the organisers from any responsibility and liability.

UNO #466
UNO #466
Let's continue the tradition and play UNO, everybody is welcome :) If you're on the waitlist please check your messages, especially on Sunday. If people drop off last minute I tend to message people on the waitlist to see who can come. We'll be playing at the lobby of Radisson RED, Brussels. The address of the hotel is: Rue d'Idalie 35, 1050 Bruxelles My number is 0471 45 55 02. Feel free to call if you cannot solve a physics question, cannot find the place or simply need a hug. I have quickly written a set of rules on how we play. It is assumed that the reader has a basic concept of the game. *** Setup: * Each player starts with 6 or 7 cards each (depending on total number of players) * A card is shown in play in the middle of everyone, this is known as the top card. Goal: * The goal of the game for each player is to get rid of all cards in your hand Rules: * Whenever you go from two cards to one card, you have to say "UNO". * Each player takes his turn one by one, initially going in the clock-wise direction * A card may be played if it matches the same colour or same number or same type as the top card in play * The two black cards (Draw 4 and Wild) can be played regardless of the top card in play. * Interruption rule: You may interrupt the general flow of the game (clockwise or counter-clockwise) if you have the EXACT same card as the top card in play. If you manage to play the card prior to the person whose turn it's supposed to be, then the game continues on from you in the same direction it was previously. (Unless the reverse card was interrupted, then the direction changes). * Draw2 or Draw4 cards can be played in accordance to the interruption rule. The following person after the interrupt has to take the accumulated number of cards. If however, cards have already been drawn AND seen by the person who was supposed to take the cards, then only the remainder of cards has to be drawn. * Once someone has no cards remaining in his hand, play stops and we start counting points. Points: * Number cards have the face value as the number of points. i.e. number 6 is worth 6 points, number 0 is worth 0 points, number 4 is worth 4 points. * Skip, reverse and Draw2 are worth 20 points each * Wild and draw4 are worth 50 points each
🌇 Sunset Stroll: Tervuren Park to Rouge Cloître
🌇 Sunset Stroll: Tervuren Park to Rouge Cloître
Escape the city bustle and join us for a magical evening walk from the royal gardens of Tervuren, through the ancient Sonian Forest, ending at the picturesque Rouge Cloître. This hike is perfect for anyone looking to unwind after work, breathe some fresh forest air, and enjoy the golden hour colors. 🗺️ The Route We will start at the Tervuren Station (terminus of Tram 44). We’ll begin by walking through the formal gardens and ponds of Tervuren Park, enjoying the open views and the sunset light reflecting on the water. From there, we will dive into the Sonian Forest (Zoniënwoud), walking under the canopy of the majestic beech cathedrals. The path will lead us gently downhill towards the historic Rouge Cloître (Rood Klooster), a 14th-century Augustinian priory nestled on the edge of the forest. 🕒 The Plan * Meeting Time: 15:45 * Meeting Point: Just outside the Tervuren Station (Terminus of Tram 44). * The Walk: We depart at 16:00] sharp. * The End: We aim to arrive at Rouge Cloître around 18:00. * Après-Walk: For those interested, we can grab a drink at a local spot near Herrmann-Debroux or at the brasserie in Rouge Cloître (depending on opening hours) . 📋 Practical Details * Distance: Approximately 7–8 km. * Duration: ~2 hours walking time. * Pace: Casual to moderate. We wait for everyone, but please be comfortable walking this distance. * Terrain: Mostly flat/downhill with some unpaved forest paths. 🎒 What to Bring * Comfortable Shoes: Walking shoes or sneakers (trail runners are great if it has rained recently). * Water: Stay hydrated! * Layers: Evenings can get chilly in the forest. 🚇 Getting Home The walk ends at Rouge Cloître. From there, it is a short 10-15 minute walk to Herrmann-Debroux metro station (Line 5), which connects you easily back to the city center. Note: This event is free of charge. Participation is at your own risk. Please RSVP only if you intend to come so we don't leave anyone behind! See you on the trail! 🌳✨
🏛️ Step Inside the Story: "Back to Pompeii" Immmersive Experience & Social
🏛️ Step Inside the Story: "Back to Pompeii" Immmersive Experience & Social
Time: 3:45 PM (Meeting) for the 4:00 PM Entry Slot Location: Tour & Taxis (Shed 4 bis), Brussels 👋 Important: Members Event This meetup is organized for members of Sunday Vacations. * Already a member? Great! Skip to the ticket section below. * Not a member yet? We’d love to have you! Membership starts at just €5 / year. 👉 https://www.sundayvacations.com/membership The Experience: Don't Just See History, Live It We aren't just going to look at artifacts in glass cases. We are going to walk through history. This exhibition is a "narrative journey." Instead of dry facts, you will step onto a massive 1,200m² physical reconstruction of Pompeii's streets. You will enter the shops, visit the taverns, and walk through a Roman home, all while an audio story guides you through the daily life of a family in 79 AD. It’s the closest we can get to time travel-feeling the atmosphere of the city right before everything changed. Why Pompeii is the "Holy Grail" 🌋 Pompeii is special because it is a time capsule. The volcanic ash didn't just destroy the city; it froze it. It preserved wooden furniture, loaves of bread, and even the graffiti on the walls, giving us a rare, unfiltered look at how ordinary people actually lived. 💰 Insider Details: Coins in the Ashes Keep your eyes open for these fascinating details we’ll be looking for: * The "Menu" on the Wall: Look for the tavern graffiti that lists wine prices: "Drink for 1 coin, better wine for 2, the best for 4." It’s a direct link to the inflation and daily life of the time. * The Fugitive's Purse: We'll see the story of a man found clutching 20 silver denarii—his life savings, grabbed in a panic before he tried to flee. * Red Gold: Notice how some gold coins look reddish? That’s not rust. It’s a permanent chemical change caused by the intense heat of the pyroclastic flow. The Agenda * 3:45 PM: Meet at the entrance of Shed 4 bis (Tour & Taxis). Join the WhatsApp group by sending me a message to +32 483 464 469 * 4:00 PM: Enter the exhibition together (Strict entry slot!). * 5:30 PM: Post-Expo Social: After the history, comes the community. We will head next door to the Gare Maritime Food Market to grab a drink, debate our favorite parts of the exhibit, and enjoy the evening together. 🎟️ How to Join (2 Steps) Since this is a self-booked event, please follow these steps carefully: Step 1: Get your Community Membership Ensure your membership is active via the link at the top of this description. Step 2: Buy your Exhibition Ticket * Booking Link: https://tickets.expo-pompeii.com/en/appointment/9 * Select Date: 18/01/26 * Select Time: 4:00 PM * Note: Ensure you select "Back to Pompeii" at Tour & Taxis (NOT Brussels Expo). Step 3: RSVP Here Once you have your ticket, please RSVP "Yes" on this page so we know to look for you! Getting There * Address: Avenue du Port 86C, 1000 Brussels. * Transport: Free shuttle from North Station, or bus lines 14, 20, 57, 86, 88. See you in Ancient Rome! 🍇
Tennis doubles (NOT FOR BEGINNERS) - White Star Evere
Tennis doubles (NOT FOR BEGINNERS) - White Star Evere
Hello! This is a meet-up to play tennis from 2 pm to 4 pm on Sunday. Meeting is on the courts. The courts are booked under the name Jean-Marc. This event is for intermediate and advanced players and not organised for novice players or beginners. Please make sure to bring the exact sum of 10 € in cash. The event is non-commercial. This sum covers the cost of the courts reserved. The organizer is not there to make money out of you. Ladies are encouraged to join. If anyone wants to drop out, they should do it on Saturday morning, not on Sunday the day of the meetup, another wise it would be too late to find a replacement in time or to cancel a court in time with reimbursement. If you don't do this, you will be asked by the organizer to reimburse your participation fee. If this happens too late then those who have cancelled after Saturday morning will have to cover the extra cost for reserving the courts. In the past meetups, it happened too many times that we were an oneven number and because of that all those present had less fun to play. If you don't show up without giving a written excuse in time, the first future participation will be cancelled and you will be asked to reimburse the participation fee. If it happens too many times you will not be able to participate anymore. In case if we are an uneven number of players, then the last player (except the host of course who has to collect the money) can leave or persuade other players to play with him or her. Of course if the last player leaves, then he or she doesn't have to pay the participation fee. If this player leaves, he or she will be added on a future event by the host or organizer in the participation list if the player is far away in the waiting list. This is the advantage of leaving on a voluntary basis;-). We operate on the principle of Fair Play as we do not have umpires or referees. Any disputes or disagreements over line calls or scores should be resolved immediately on the court and, when agreement is not possible, the point or game should be replayed. To be able to replay the game, 3 players need to agree on that without manipulation of the one who disputes an entire game, anotherwise injustice could occur where in the end possibly the biggest cheater could win... This situation applies also, if the host or the organizer is involved. When one of the players still doesn't accept this compromise, then it should be reported (meetup message by preference) to the organizer or host of the meetup event. One of the consequences could be that the first upcoming event could be cancelled by the organizer for the player who doesn't comply with the compromise to play the point or the game again. If the same player does that again for a second time, then the person will see 4 of his next tennis meetups cancelled. If this happens a third time with the same player, then the player in question will be banned from all future tennis meetups with an exclusion as a final result. Whenever there is a big problem, it should be reported as well to the organizer of the group so he can, if necessary, take actions to improve the situation for all the players. Please also note that if you are the first on the waiting list, you will automatically be moved up to the attendance list if someone pulls out. So if you are on the waiting list and see that you cannot attend, please also change your status to not going. If you would like to organize a meet up either this week or next week please get in touch with me, my name is Jean-Marc. It will depend on your initiatives to create more tennis meetups per week.

Energizing Walk for Busy People!
Energizing Walk for Busy People!
Join our weekly walking meetup to have fun, maintain a healthy lifestyle, meet new people, and enjoy the weather! We meet Saturdays at 10am, halfway between the Reston *Container Store* and *Not Your Average Joes* (by the metal benches), leaving no later than 10:05. Every week, rain or shine, we start by walking along the Green Trail to reach Lake Anne Community Center. Once there, we pause for water/bio (often staying a few minutes extra from April-November, due to the local Farmer's Market), and then we circle Lake Anne and head back to our starting point. It's roughly 3-4 miles and takes about an hour and a half. Afterwards, some members will often head to *Not Your Average Joes* or another local restaurant for a quick drink/meal before tackling the day. This event is open to all ages and fitness levels. Dogs are welcome, and we recommend dressing for the weather (umbrella, water, snow shoes, hat, etc.) since we'll walk rain or shine. Also, feel free to bring a friend! By signing up, you accept and assume all risks and responsibilities with this activity, and nobody will be held liable.
Run and Get Dirty! Adult Dogs in the main park, puppies in the small dog park
Run and Get Dirty! Adult Dogs in the main park, puppies in the small dog park
Our regular Sunday meetup at the Shirlington Dog Park -- members start arriving around 10:15 a.m. You'll always find an Aussie to play with. There are 3 entrances, so wander the park -- the dogs will find each other! For puppies, Shirlington has a small dog park within the larger dog park. It's the prefect place for your puppy to gain confidence and socialize with others. There is also plenty of room to run. Just a reminder, the Dog Park is under attack by the Arlington County Board of Commissioners. While early plans to decrease the size of the park by 50% has been tabled, it's important to remind Arlington County how important this park is to dogs and owners. Thursday Night Run + Brewery Hangout
Thursday Night Run + Brewery Hangout
Join the RunDMV crew every Thursday night at **6:30pm** outside **Caboose Brewing Co.** in Vienna (520 Mill St. NE). We hit the W&OD Trail right behind the brewery for a **40-minute out-and-back run/walk**—go at your own pace, and when you hit 20 minutes, just turn around so we all finish together. No matter if you’re walking, jogging, or pushing the pace, you’ll have company out there. Each week we switch directions (east one week, west the next) to keep things fresh. After the run, we stick around for food and drinks at Caboose—because half the fun of run club is hanging out afterward. 🍻
