Easy Zone 2 Training @ Kowloon
**Location:** Kowloon
**Duration:** 90 Minutes
**Difficulty:** Accessible to ALL (Self-paced intensity)
***
**The Mission**
In the world of first responders, "slow is smooth, and smooth is fast." While high-intensity training gets the glory, **Zone 2 Heart Rate training** is the silent engine that powers human performance.
This session, hosted by **TacticalFitnessHK**, is designed to build your aerobic base—the foundation that allows you to recover faster, stay calm under pressure, and sustain physical output for longer durations without burning out.
### What to Expect
This is not a "balls-to-the-wall" sprint session. We are training for **longevity and resilience**.
* **Briefing (10 mins):** We’ll start with a short talk from our founders (local first responders) on why aerobic capacity is critical for emergency preparedness and mental clarity.
* **The "Talk Test" Jog/Walk (60 mins):** We will move as a group along the West Kowloon waterfront. The goal is to keep your heart rate between **60-70% of your maximum**. You should be able to hold a full conversation—this is where the community building happens!
* **Knowledge Share & Cool Down (20 mins):** We’ll wrap up with light mobility work and a Q&A session on emergency kits, situational awareness, and staying "ready" in an urban environment like Hong Kong.
***
### Why Zone 2?
For first responders and prepared citizens alike, Zone 2 training:
1. **Improves Mitochondrial Efficiency:** Teaches your body to burn fat as a primary fuel source.
2. **Enhances Recovery:** Helps clear lactate faster after high-intensity bursts.
3. **Protects the "Soul":** Lower-intensity steady-state movement is proven to reduce cortisol (stress) and improve mental health.
### Who Should Join?
**Everyone.** While we are founded by first responders to support the frontline assets, we believe a resilient city requires a resilient community. Whether you are a seasoned athlete or just starting your fitness journey, we welcome you to join our ranks.
### What to Bring
* Comfortable running/walking shoes.
* A heart rate monitor or smartwatch (optional—we can teach you the "Talk Test" method).
* Water (hydration is key even at lower intensities).
* An open mind and a spirit for community.
***
**Ready to build your foundation?** Click "Join" to reserve your spot. We train rain or shine.
Chan style Tai Chi revision
In this lesson you'll learn the techniques of Chen Style Tai Chi movements.
Chen style Tai Chi (陳式太極) is a more active form of Tai Chi with much faster and explosive power movements emulate a more realistic application of the martial arts techniques
You need to be physically fit to practise this style with a balance between hard and soft, fast and slow, and able to learn the fast, explosive movements.
Chen style Tai Chi (陳式太極) is the original Tai Chi style reflecting its martial art origin and techniques, It is artistic and rich in combat technique, as well as characterized by soft and vigorous movements combined. It features dynamic punches, internal power and spiral force
* The Chen style of Tai Chi uses some explosive and fast moves - like jump kicks. This may be out of the fitness range of some people.
* If you're already fairly fit or athletically inclined (or looking for a more exciting form of Tai Chi) consider the Chen style.
* The Chen style uses wide, expansive movements that can be hard on the knees and lower back muscles.
I have been practicing Tai Chi continuous for ten years and hope to share and provide guidance in regular training classes.

Moderate 2.7: Wilson Trail Section 10 (Reverse): Luk Keng to Tai Mei Tuk hike
**Meeting Point: Fanling MTR Station, Exit C** (We will take minibus together)
**Hike Start Point:** Luk Keng (Nam Chung) Minibus Terminus (56K)
**Hike End Point:** Tai Mei Tuk Bus Terminus
Hike Time: ~1:00 PM to ~5:30 PM
**Wilson Trail Section 10 (Reverse Hike) - An Afternoon Forest & Reservoir Walk**
Join us for a relaxed afternoon completing the final section of the Wilson Trail! We'll hike it in reverse, starting from the serene village of Nam Chung and winding through quiet forests and past forgotten hamlets on our way to the iconic Plover Cove Reservoir at Tai Mei Tuk. It's the perfect escape for a peaceful, scenic walk as the day winds down.
**Who should sign up?**
This is a **slow/moderate paced** leisure hike perfect for beginners and those looking for a tranquil, nature-focused walk. It is not suitable for fast hikers as we will maintain a relaxed pace with breaks. The trail is well-defined, mostly shaded, and offers a "quiet walk with nature" experience.
**DO:**
✔ Be on time at **Fanling MTR, Exit C**. We will wait a maximum of 10 minutes after the meeting time to catch the minibus together.
✔ Wear good, comfortable walking or hiking shoes.
✔ Bring **at least 1.5 liters of water** and some snacks.
✔ Bring sun protection (hat, sunblock) and rain gear just in case.
✔ Consider a light layer for the evening breeze near the reservoir.
✔ **Have lunch before the hike** or bring it to eat at the meeting point.
**Toilets/Supplies:**
* **Start:** Luk Keng Village near the minibus terminus.
* **End:** Public toilets and numerous shops/cafes at Tai Mei Tuk Bus Terminus.
**Hike Description:**
We will meet at Fanling MTR Station, Exit C and take green minibus 56K to the Luk Keng Terminus at Nam Chung. The hike follows Wilson Trail Section 10 in reverse. We begin on a paved road before entering peaceful, shaded woodland paths. The trail is well-maintained but note there is *little to no cell signal* for most of the route. We'll pass streams, abandoned village houses, and quiet forest sections—a true escape. The trail then merges with the Pat Sin Leng Nature Trail for our final descent, offering beautiful late-afternoon views of Plover Cove Reservoir, before finishing at Tai Mei Tuk. Total time on trail is approximately 4-4.5 hours at a leisurely pace.
**Transport:**
* **To Start:** Meet at Fanling MTR Station, Exit C. Together, we will take Green Minibus 56K to the final stop at Luk Keng (Nam Chung).
* **From Finish:** At Tai Mei Tuk, we will take Bus 75K or 275R to Tai Po Market MTR Station.
**PADS Rating:**
* **Pace: 2.0** (Regular hiking at a comfortable pace with regular breaks).
* **Ascent: 3.6** (650m)
* **Distance: 3.0** (11.2km)
* **Surface: 2.0** (Well-defined trails but with significant rocky bits and unevenness).
* **Overall Rating: 2.7**
* **Difficulty Level: MODERATE** (falls within the 2.3 to 3.0 range).
**Please keep an eye on weather conditions.** If the weather is deemed too bad to proceed, the event will be cancelled. A decision will be made 2 hours prior to the meeting time.

For those of you with young puppies please make sure you have a full week after your last round of shots at 16 weeks. This place can be a madhouse so please use common sense when exposing a new babe to the world.

Lure course prices are typically $10-20 per run and the line to lure course can be pretty long on busy days. They also have in past years dock dives. Please excuse those corgis with a white plastic bag on a string addiction. You know who you are!
As always please RSVP the number of corgis attending unless otherwise noted!
Run and Get Dirty! Adult Dogs in the main park, puppies in the small dog park
Our regular Sunday meetup at the Shirlington Dog Park -- members start arriving around 10:15 a.m. You'll always find an Aussie to play with. There are 3 entrances, so wander the park -- the dogs will find each other!
For puppies, Shirlington has a small dog park within the larger dog park. It's the prefect place for your puppy to gain confidence and socialize with others. There is also plenty of room to run.
Just a reminder, the Dog Park is under attack by the Arlington County Board of Commissioners. While early plans to decrease the size of the park by 50% has been tabled, it's important to remind Arlington County how important this park is to dogs and owners. Here are links to the change.org petition and the Facebook page where you can get updates.

Energizing Walk for Busy People!
Join our weekly walking meetup to have fun, maintain a healthy lifestyle, meet new people, and enjoy the weather! We meet Saturdays at 10am, halfway between the Reston *Container Store* and *Not Your Average Joes* (by the metal benches), leaving no later than 10:05.
Every week, rain or shine, we start by walking along the Green Trail to reach Lake Anne Community Center. Once there, we pause for water/bio (often staying a few minutes extra from April-November, due to the local Farmer's Market), and then we circle Lake Anne and head back to our starting point. It's roughly 3-4 miles and takes about an hour and a half.
Afterwards, some members will often head to *Not Your Average Joes* or another local restaurant for a quick drink/meal before tackling the day.
This event is open to all ages and fitness levels. Dogs are welcome, and we recommend dressing for the weather (umbrella, water, snow shoes, hat, etc.) since we'll walk rain or shine. Also, feel free to bring a friend!
By signing up, you accept and assume all risks and responsibilities with this activity, and nobody will be held liable.
Take a Hike! @ Difficult Run to Great Falls Park
Join us for an easy hike along the **Difficult Run Trail to Great Falls Park** and kick off your day with **great company** and engaging conversations! Whether you're here for the exercise, the scenery, or the chance to meet like-minded people, this hike has something for everyone!
This trail is packed with sights: enjoy picturesque views along Difficult Run Stream and breathtaking overlooks of the Potomac River from up high. We’ll even come across a picnic table at the top of one incline, the perfect spot to rest, take in the view, and soak up some good vibes!
Afterward, join us for an optional lunch at Mookie's BBQ to relax and unwind after our hike.
**Meeting Time & Location**
Meet at 9:30 AM at [Cross County Trail Access Point (Leigh Mill Rd & Kelso Rd)](https://maps.app.goo.gl/btDGQg7gphrVJdmB7). If you're running a bit late, you can catch up with us at the Difficult Run parking lot off Georgetown Pike - we’ll pass through about 30 minutes into the hike.
**Distance:** 5 miles
**Difficulty:** Easy (246 feet of elevation gain)
This hike is rated Easy for its gentle terrain, wide paths, and manageable 246 feet of elevation gain.
* **Easy Water Crossing:** Large stepping stones make the stream crossing simple and safe.
* **No Rock Scrambling or Steep Climbs:** The trail has no steep rocky sections or scrambling required.
* **Mild Inclines:** The mostly flat route includes a gentle 246 foot incline within Great Falls Park.
**Pace:** Moderate Pace
