Acting for Beginners Taster Workshop
# **Acting for Beginners – Taster Session**
**Thursday 23rd April – Jacksons Lane, Highgate**
If you’ve ever thought about trying acting — or you just want to feel more confident speaking, expressing yourself, and meeting new people — this taster session is the perfect place to start.
You don’t need experience. You don’t need to be “dramatic”. You don’t need to know anything at all. Just bring yourself, a bit of curiosity, and a willingness to try something new alongside a group of likeminded adults.
You’ll be joining people who are all here for the same reason: to grow, connect, and have fun in a relaxed, supportive environment.
### What you’ll experience
* A friendly, welcoming class led by Stage & the City
* Simple acting exercises to help you loosen up and find your voice
* A chance to explore creativity in a pressure‑free space
* A lovely group of adults who want to meet new people and build confidence
Most people arrive feeling a little nervous… and leave feeling lighter, braver, and proud of themselves.
### About the full course
Our *Acting for Beginners* course introduces you to acting techniques, improvisation, character work, and communication skills — all at a gentle, beginner‑friendly pace.
It’s perfect for anyone who wants to:
* Build confidence
* Improve communication
* Try something creative
* Meet new people
* Break out of the “work from home → scroll → sleep → repeat” cycle
### Want more confidence at work?
If your goal is specifically to feel more confident **in meetings, presentations, or speaking up at work**, we also run a **Public Speaking course** starting this week near **Liverpool Street**. Many students do both.
### Booking
To find out more and to guarantee your place on the taster session, please book your ticket here: [Acting for Beginners | Thursday Weekly Classes | Stage & the City](https://www.afperformingarts.com/stage-and-the-city/classes/acting-for-beginners-thursdays)
If you have any questions, feel free to message or email **satc@afperformingarts.com**.
Come along, meet some lovely people, and discover how empowering acting can be — even if you’ve never tried it before.
THE SOCIAL | LONDON 20/30s
London's slowest pub crawl.
A new pub every Thursday where everyone talks to each other. Because in 2026, you shouldn’t need to join a run club to meet new people.
Turn up, grab a drink, talk to new people and see them again next week. Come solo or with friends. Stay for one drink or stay all night.
**Coming along? Do these two quick things:**
1. **[RSVP on CircleUp](https://circleup.space)** (not just meetup). Meetup only has some of the crowd, the full community is on CircleUp.
2. **Join our [WhatsApp chat](https://circleup.space/whatsapp)** to find the group & stay in the loop.
**How to find the group**
Check for updates on our **[WhatsApp chat](https://circleup.space/whatsapp)** or ask the bar for the booking under CircleUp.
**About [CircleUp](https://circleup.space)**
Your social life. Sorted.
Like a uni society for your 20s & 30s. We're your circle to show up, connect, and keep seeing the same faces. No cliques, no pressure, just a social scene you can step right into.

Ultimate Frisbee in *SHOREDITCH Park* on Thursday evenings
***Note***: As the sunset is still early, we are starting at 6pm for now. The earlier we get there the more time we get!
Ultimate Frisbee Pickup! All experience welcome!
Main details:
• For first-timers: you're very welcome, no experience necessary, we can teach you the rules and how to play. You just need a willingness to run around a LOT! Bring trainers (or cleats/football boots) and clothes you can run in and plenty of water
• Please try to bring both a light top and a dark top as this makes splitting into balanced teams easier
• Throwing from 6:00pm, we'll kick off a friendly pick-up game as soon as we get numbers. It's fine if you can only make it later on - we play with substitutes so you can join in at any point. If no one is there when you arrive, don't worry, people are probably just late! If the meetup is not cancelled, frisbee will be happening!
• Afterwards we always head to a pub garden and have a drink or two :)
• Frisbee is a non-contact sport, but the occasional bumps can happen, we're all playing at our own risk

INFJ Hangout (late-April)
Join us for our chilled Sunday afternoon Meetup, for connection and sanctuary amongst others who get you. We don't have a theme for this Meetup but please bring any topics you'd like to discuss and we'll also have the conversation cards with us.
We'll meet at the Southbank Balcony Bar on the 5th Floor of Royal Festival Hall. The easiest way to find us is to enter through the main entrance and take the lift to the fifth floor - we'll try to sit at that end on a big table & will have a Meetup sign on display. We'll also comment on the day. There is an entrance to Royal Festival Hall that is quite close to the Nelson Mandela (INFJ) statue and there is also an entrance to the ground floor around the corner. Lifts are at either end of the building.
You can buy either alcoholic or soft drinks, or tea/coffee at the bar.
This venue is usually quieter than Picturehouse and there appears to be no concert that day.
Please note you don't have to be well-versed on Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to attend; we are merely looking to build a community of like-minded people for fun, support and connection.
There are always some people who don't come on the day, so if you're top of the waitlist, it's very likely you'll be bumped up, so please come anyway and equally if you would really like to come, please do. We're not going to turn you away! If there's a lot of attendees, we'll split into 2 groups.
Smart Singles Workshop for Advanced Adults, all genders
### 🎾 Smart Singles Workshop
My **Smart Singles Workshop** focuses on both the **technical and tactical aspects of singles play**, helping players become much stronger and more confident singles match players.
The workshop covers key areas such as:
* Improving **consistency and patterns of play from the back of the court**
* Understanding **when and how to approach the net**, and how to deal with opponents who do
* Developing **more effective serve and return strategies**
You will have plenty of opportunity to **put these ideas into practice** during this **three-hour session**, with a combination of drills and coached play.
To ensure plenty of individual attention, **the group is limited to just four players**.
***
### **Session Format**
**Part 1 – Technical Warm-Up**
Introduction to the day followed by a supervised warm-up with all four players on court. During this time we will look at all the main strokes and provide useful **technical tips and adjustments** **(30 mins)**
**Part 2 – Tactical Drills (1.5 hours)**
Players will work through a series of **structured drills and patterns**, which are play based, including:
* Building consistency from the back of the court
* Serve and return strategies
* Approaching the net and finishing points
* Passing shot strategies
**Part 3 – Matchplay with Mental Coaching Tips (1 hour)**
Players will compete in matchplay situations to **apply the tactics and techniques learned**, with the coach providing feedback and guidance throughout.
Although the session is 3 hours, there will be some down time to rest and reset.
Inner Bloom Self-Love Evening
To secure your spot, please DM us on Instagram @twinmoonclub or message me directly! 🌙
Join us beneath April's pink moon (so called because of the flowers that bloom with the new season) for a spring reset, focused on self-love and positive connection.
Evening tea, breathwork, moon water cleanse, creative journalling, Yin yoga – and more. All welcome; tap into the goddess that you are.
We'd love for guests to honour the self-love theme and wear light, soft colours that speak to spring and femininity. Soft pinks, pastels, beige cream. This is of course optional; most importantly, wear something you feel comfortable moving in. Please bring a journal or paper and a pen.
We look forward to sharing this space together.

Summer Social: Let's kick off summer with Adult field day at Shadybowl!
We’re bringing back Adult Field Day.
Last year was a good mix of competition and just hanging out, so we’re doing it again with some new games mixed in. Think team-based challenges, simple races, and a few things inspired by game shows.
You don’t need to be athletic. Most of the fun is just being part of a team and getting to know people you wouldn’t normally talk to.
The goal isn’t really winning. It’s meeting people, laughing a bit, and leaving knowing a few more names than when you showed up.
If you stick around after, we’ll have a potluck, a bonfire, and a couple comedians in the evening.
Bring:
* Something to share for the potluck
* Clothes you can move around in
A small contribution helps keep events sustainable and ensures those who RSVP actually show up. Include your Meetup name + event name in the note. Please send $2 per person to guarantee your spot.
