🏴 Break for the Border: Bluebells, Wye Gorge & King Arthur's Cave
I’m leading this hike for London Social Hiking and sharing it here so my KoZa Trails crew know when I’m out on the trails in the UK. 😊
👉 Please note: all sign-ups and payments need to be done through London Social Hiking’s Meetup page here:
https://www.meetup.com/londonsocialhiking/events/313927812/
#################
Join us on a trip to the English-Welsh border – this time of year is particularly special, with carpets of bluebells and wild garlic filling the ancient woodland! 💜
We’ve created a list of FAQs to help answer your questions.
#################
Join London Social Hiking on a trip to the heart of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty! The Wye Valley is well-known for its beautiful river landscapes, dramatic limestone gorges, native woodlands, impressive geology, historic hill forts, castles and abbeys. On this trip, we'll discover the River Wye – Britain's fifth longest river and certainly one of the most scenic. Much of the lower length of the river defines the border between England and Wales. We'll be hiking in Wales, with England on the other shore!
We'll do two short hikes, taking in the highlights of the area. On our first hike, we'll visit the famous viewpoint at Symonds Yat Rock. This limestone outcrop is perched 120 metres above the River Wye and provides spectacular views of the river snaking its way through the gorge. The pleasant woodland trail will take us through nature reserves to the limestone rock towers of the Seven Sisters and the dramatic King Arthur’s Cave, which provided a refuge for mammoths, hyenas and rhinoceros in prehistoric times. We'll cross the Indiana Jones style suspension bridge and also pass the distinctive red and white house, which famously featured in the Netflix series “Sex Education” (Otis's and Jean's home).
After resting and having lunch and hot drinks, we'll take a short drive to the start of the second walk. This hike features the picturesque viewpoint known as the Eagle's Nest. The Eagle's Nest boasts unrivalled views down the Wye Valley to the rocks of Wintour's Leap, Chepstow, the Severn bridges and the estuary. The superb woodland path will lead us along the edge of an escarpment to the extraordinary Giant’s Cave and the Grotto, before finally descending to Chepstow and its beautifully preserved, 11th-century Chepstow Castle.
This trip is suitable for reasonably fit BEGINNERS – a great way to experience hiking before joining our more difficult hikes! 🤩

If you would like to bring along a new design, contact Rob Harris (Organiser) and we will add your game to the list.
Deadline for pre-registering games is 11:59pm on the Friday before. Be sure to include the name of the game, a brief description of the gameplay, the expected duration and the amount of players.
[name] [description] [duration] [amount of players]
If you bring more than one design, add a preference for which one you would like to show first. Please feel free to still bring extra prototypes on the day. They will be added to later playtesting rounds.
(Please note that as a condition of our use of the Jugged Hare, only food and drink bought at the pub can be consumed on the premises.)
Here is the list of prototypes to be playtested: tbc

Clifftop Club: The 18-Mile Challenge: Folkstone - Deal 💪
We are taking on 18 miles along one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the UK. Think sea air, big open views, quiet chats as we walk, and that steady rhythm you only get on a long hike.
It is not just about the distance - it is about the experience.
The moments where the group spreads out, then comes back together.
The snack breaks that somehow taste better by the sea.
That feeling when your legs are tired, but your head feels clear.
**The plan:**
Distance: 18.5 miles
Difficulty: Hard
Time: 8–9 hrs
Train tickets: purchase off-peak return to Eastbourne with national rail card. OR wecq get a group ticketket on a day.
Sea views + cliffs + iconic Kent coastline
We will start in Deal and follow the coast towards the cliffs, moving at a steady, social pace. There will be time to pause, take it in, and enjoy it — no rush, no pressure, just a shared challenge.
By the end, you’ll have walked 18 miles, met some great people, and probably feel a little different than when you started (in a good way).
**Bring:**
* Comfortable walking shoes / boots
* Water and snacks
* Weather-appropriate clothing
**⚠️ Important: Refund Policy & Weather Notice**
This hike runs rain or shine. No refunds are available, but spots can be transferred with 48 hours’ notice.

Secret London - Glorious Hampstead Heath and the lost cobbled paths of Hampstead
Hi all, cost & info below, A beautiful 'going back in time' relaxed walk and find out some interesting brief local history along the way.
Join us for a wonderful 3.8 mile (5km) linear, hilly walk from Hampstead Heath Station (Mildmay Line Overground) to the village of Hampstead. Ends at Hampstead Underground Station (Northern Line)
Please allow plenty of time to arrive as trains for Hampstead Heath are infrequent from West Hampstead (Jubilee Line) to Hampstead Heath Station (Mildmay Line), trains run about every 10-15 mins
We will walk through old hidden cobbled lanes, quaint old churches and beautiful alleyways in one of the most amazing, charming areas of London. If I could live in London, it would be in Hampstead..
The beautiful walk will firstly take us up on the famous Hampstead Heath with stunning views of London
There is some fascinating brief history too, find out where Ruth Ellis (Last Woman to be hanged in the UK) killed her lover, the home she went to to find him before she killed him, famous homes of Gracie Fields, Peter Cook, HG Wells, George Orwell, President Charles De Gualle, Ricky Gervais, Boy George, Marty Feldman, the De Mauriers, John Constable, a Hampstead old jail, the healing springs of Hampstead, historic old pubs, famous graves of Peter Pan, De Mauriers, John Constable and John Harrison. Even Ryan Gosling and Nicole Kidman have just moved to Hampstead in Xmas 2025! Different houses, of course, no gossip here!
At the end of the walk feel free to have drinks at a lovely pub to socialise.
**£10 cash/card payment by simply turning up on the day**
Hampstead has appeared in many famous Hollywood movies.
Notable Residence: Liam Gallagher, Harry Styles, Stephen Fry, Ricky Gervais, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sigmund Freud, Enid Blyton, Lord Byron, Agatha Christie, John Keats, George Orwell, Peter Cook, Elizabeth Taylor, John Constable, Charles de Gaulle, Florence Nightingale, Charles Saatchi
Hampstead Heath
A large, ancient London heath is notable for its excellent views of London.
The heath first entered the history books in 986 when Ethelred the Unready granted one of his servants hides of land at "Hemstede". This same land recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as held by the monastery of at Westminster Abbey, and by then is known as the "Manor of Hampstead" The beautiful ivy clustered old graveyards contain the remains of John Constable and John Harrison
Hampstead
Known for its intellectual, liberal, artistic, musical & literary associations.
Hampstead has more millionaires within its boundaries than any other area of the United Kingdom.
The growth of Hampstead is generally traced back to the 17th century. Trustees of the Well started advertising the medicinal qualities of the chalybeate waters (water impregnated with iron) in 1700 and then the induction of the Railway in the 1860s.
Hampstead High Street
Filled with boutiques, art supplies, fashion, food and specialty shops like Venchi, Brandy Melville, Zadig & Voltaire, Maje, and Ba&sh.
Filming
An American Werewolf in London, Notting Hill, Notes on a Scandal, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Hampstead, Ladybrinth
ABOUT OUR SECRET LONDON WALKS
It is a 15-year fascinating journey together to explore the whole of beautiful, enchanting Secret London.
The only walking group in the World offering this unique experience!
The individual walks have been created from an original route several miles in length (usually on average about 50 miles) where we have checked every nook and cranny, every hidden alleyway, lane, lost cobbled path, cul de sac, avenue, road or street in that area for you!
It is then shortened, to give back to you a magical walk with all the best bits of 'Lovely London', voted the best City in the World for the 10th year running!
What is given back to you is the most scenic, healthy walk (usually 3-6 miles in length) with some of the walks containing hidden cobbled lanes, lost shops, secret gems, areas lost in time, wonderful views, idyllic Instagram photo shots and all sorts! Now and then some brief local info is mentioned or something of historical importance along the way.
You will have plenty of time to chat and meet new friends whilst walking the amazing lost areas of London!
So we welcome you to the colourful highlights of this fascinating City of London with simply wonderful things to see!

These Meetups are co-ed, super laid back, and all skill levels are welcome. Post your skill level and a suggested court in the comments section so we can round up as many players as we can for some tennis fun!
Also, if you’re looking to meet new practice partners or play some matches and you aren’t already in the PlayYourCourt Community, you can go here to see what we’re all about and sign up:
https://www.playyourcourt.com/tennis-community/columbus-oh/meetup/
If you love tennis, we’d love to have you! Be sure and watch the quick video that explains how everything works.
Happy hitting!
