Walk the (Circle) Line (23 miles, Circular)
**Please RSVP at [our website](https://surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk/walk-detail.php?id=2214) (green button) and not here, thanks!** Let's walk the Circle Line! Meeting outside Waterloo station (at Paddington London Mural ), we'll go together to our start point of Westminster tube station and from there visit (and photograph!) every stop on the original (circular) Circle Line. This is a great way to take in the sights of central London whilst also providing those training for the Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike a chance to get lots of (admittedly flat) miles in! Please note the distance and terrain (tarmac) and plan your footwear accordingly. There is of course an easy option to hop on the tube back for those who prefer a shorter walk :) We'll have a cafe/pub stop in the morning and afternoon but please bring a picnic lunch. We've provided an automated estimate of the end time and this will be affected by many factors - please only use as a guide. The description above may also have specific notes on ending details.
A Walk to the Sea (15 or 17 miles) - Hassocks to Brighton
A Walk to the Sea (15 or 17 miles) - Hassocks to Brighton
What better way that a walk may end, than to shed boots for the final steps into animating surf. This walk crosses the South Downs to finish at the sea. And there's a choice of arrival at Brighton: one can walk a final mile or so along the seafront; or enter the city in style aboard the oldest operating electric railway in the world - Volk's 1883 railway! On 16th May 1881, the first electric tram service opened to the public built by Siemens, running from Berlin-Lichterfelde to the Prussian military academy. Two years later, Magnus Volk brought the technology here, and it's still going strong 140 years later 🤗🚊🚃 Outward Travel: The train departing 9:35 AM from London Bridge arrives at Hassocks 10.32 AM. Buy a return ticket to BRIGHTON. The return train fare from Thameslink London terminals with a Network Card or GroupSave is £12.10. People gather outside the ticket office to arrange group tickets and the organiser will be in attendance from 9.15 AM. However arrive earlier if you wish Walk start: 10:35 AM from HASSOCKS rail station. Bring a packed lunch. The walk length is 15 miles, or 17 miles without the electric train (single fare £5.40). https://volksrailway.org.uk/ *How to join?* * The walk is entirely free of charge; * You only arrange for your own travel and pub expenses; * Understand our terms and conditions below (the "IMPORTANT" part); * Understand how to stay safe outdoors, as you will be responsible for yourself. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section! IMPORTANT Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes. Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader". Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen. Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-) By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer. Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel - this gives everyone the freedom and choice. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered. As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.

On the way we also encounter traces of history, including a late 19th-century fort built to defend against French invasion and the semi-ruined folly tower from 1815. After soaking up the views, we descend to the **River Mole** and cross its famous **Stepping Stones**, a much-loved landmark of the area. The trail then continues through open chalk downland and woodland before reaching **Denbies Wine Estate**, the largest vineyard in England, winner of international awards including Best Rosé in the World at the 2010 International Wine Challenge. A wonderfully varied hike that blends chalk downs, riverside beauty, iconic views and layers of history — all within easy reach of London. 🧭 **Guide:** • Leader: [LYUBAVA](https://www.outdooraholics.co.uk/MeetTheOutdooraholics.pdf) • Contact (hike day only): 07883 405294 🍽️ **Food:** • Bring a packed lunch • Pub visit after the hike (drinks optional) 🎒**What to Bring** • Hiking boots/shoes • Water (2 litres minimum) • Packed lunch • Waterproofs (jacket and trousers) • Hat and gloves if cold • Train tickets are arranged – just meet us at the meeting point ⚠️ **Safety** Your guide is a trained hike leader and Outdoor Activity First Aider ❓ **Want to Know More?** • [New to Our Trips?](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/new_to_our_day_hikes.pdf) (perfect for first-timers, answers “what to expect”) • [About Us](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/about_us.pdf) (who Outdooraholics are, credibility, history) • [FAQs](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/FAQ.pdf) (covers common queries) 📲 **Explore More &** **Stay Connected** [Day hikes list](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/hikesbygrade.pdf) 👣 [Calendar - All trips](https://www.meetup.com/outdooraholics/events/calendar/) 📖 [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/outdooraholics/) 📸 [Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/Outdooraholics) & [Photos group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/Outdooraholics) 📄 **Terms and Conditions** By signing up or attending you agree to our [Terms and Conditions](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/TermsConditionsOutdooraholicsHikingUK.pdf) © Outdooraholics Hiking UK Ltd 2026 E & OE

Quiet lanes and green byways lead us to the quaint village of Ditchling, before the trail steepens toward **Ditchling Beacon** — one of the South East’s loftiest points. From here, the panorama opens wide: the Weald to the north and the English Channel growing larger to the south. From the high ground we thread through rolling downs and woodland pockets, turning toward **Stanmer Park**. We pass Stanmer House and the historic village, then continue via the University of Sussex at Falmer. Cresting the ridgeline by **Brighton Racecourse** and Whitehawk Hill, we traverse species-rich grassland with sweeping views over the city and sea. Our finale is a descent into **Brighton**, finishing on the lively seafront. We’ll have around 50–70 minutes to explore: wander the **Lanes** with live buskers, dip a toe in the sea, try the zip wire, or round things off with classic **fish and chips** on the beach. **TOUGHNESS WARNING** \- this is a tough and hilly hike and is also long\. You need to be an experienced and fit hiker\. It is not for beginners or anyone who has only done intermediate hikes\. To be fair to those attending, if you are unable to keep up with the group or finish the hike, you will need to leave the hike and get a taxi at your own expense. Our pace will average 4 to 4.2kmph. At over 500m ascent, it is 2/3 of the ascent of Mount Snowdon from Pen Y Pass - the most popular start point. If you have any doubts at all then this is not a hike to join, please choose one of our less tough hikes. If you are unsure, email us, but anyone who cannot keep up with the group will need to leave the hike and no refund will be due - only sign up if you are happy with this. 🧭 **Guide:** • Leader: [GRAHAM](https://www.outdooraholics.co.uk/MeetTheOutdooraholics.pdf) • Contact (hike day only): 07796 098487 🍽️ **Food:** • Bring a packed lunch • Pub visit after the hike (drinks optional) 🎒**What to Bring** • Hiking boots/shoes • Water (2 litres minimum) • Packed lunch • Waterproofs (jacket and trousers) • Hat and gloves if cold • Train tickets are arranged – just meet us at the meeting point ⚠️ **Safety** Your guide is a trained hike leader and Outdoor Activity First Aider ❓ **Want to Know More?** • [New to Our Trips?](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/new_to_our_day_hikes.pdf) (perfect for first-timers, answers “what to expect”) • [About Us](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/about_us.pdf) (who Outdooraholics are, credibility, history) • [FAQs](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/FAQ.pdf) (covers common queries) 📲 **Explore More &** **Stay Connected** [Day hikes list](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/hikesbygrade.pdf) 👣 [Calendar - All trips](https://www.meetup.com/outdooraholics/events/calendar/) 📖 [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/outdooraholics/) 📸 [Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/Outdooraholics) & [Photos group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/Outdooraholics) 📄 **Terms and Conditions** By signing up or attending you agree to our [Terms and Conditions](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/TermsConditionsOutdooraholicsHikingUK.pdf) © Outdooraholics Hiking UK Ltd 2026 E & OE
