Meaningful Afterwork: "Why Not Try Peace For A While?"
Join us for a Meaningful Afterwork exploring how we can become true practitioners of peace in our immediate environment!
**đïž Meaningful Afterwork: "Why Not Try Peace For A While?"**
Dearest participants,
We would love to invite you to our upcoming ***Meaningful Afterwork*** on **Thursday, 19 February**, hosted at the **BahĂĄâĂ Centre** in **Luxembourg City**.
The Theme: **"Why Not Try Peace For A While?"**
*"2nd August. Germany has declared war on Russia. â Swimming lessons in the afternoon."* This was Franz Kafkaâs diary entry in 1914, the day the First World War began. It is a poignant reminder of two things: first, that our individual lives continue even amidst global upheaval; and second, that while conflict may have hindered humanityâs journey toward maturity in the past, it by no means determines our future.
Like Kafka, we do not lose our agency during dark or trying times. At this ***Meaningful Afterwork***, we want to explore the lights in our everyday lives that illumine the path to peace. How can we cultivate **tranquility and lightness within ourselves** and **radiate it into the world around us**? And even more importantly, how can we become **true practitioners of peace in our immediate environments**?
We will explore these questions through a series of short, thought-provoking excerpts from the **BahĂĄâĂ Writings**.
The Details:
* đ
**Date:** Thursday, 19th January
* â° **Time:** 6:30pm
* đ **Location:** 17, AllĂ©e LĂ©opold Goebel, Luxembourg City

February book selection: Kindred by Octavia Butler
When American author Octavia Butler died in 2006, she was only 58. Even at her premature death, she was renowned as a science fiction and speculative fiction author, winning both Hugo and Nebula awards and the MacArthur fellowship (aka the MacArthur Genius Grant).
Published in 1979, "Kindred" remains her most well-known and best-selling work. A story based on time travel and modeled on slave narratives, "Kindred" explores the dynamics and dilemmas of American antebellum slavery from the sensibility of a late 20th-century Black woman who is aware of its legacy in contemporary American society.
*Goodreads summary*
Dana, a modern Black woman, is celebrating her 26th birthday with her new husband when she is snatched abruptly from her home in California and transported to the antebellum South. Rufus, the white son of a plantation owner, is drowning, and Dana has been summoned to save him. Dana is drawn back repeatedly through time to the slave quarters, and each time the stay grows longer, more arduous, and more dangerous until it is uncertain whether or not Danaâs life will end, long before it has a chance to begin.
Watcha reading?
Wondering what to read next? You wish to explore "Book X," but somehow "Book Y" catches your attention and holds your time hostage in pages. "Book Z," on the other hand, is the one you think you should read to *improve* your life, because only then does busy reading become busy living, and progress is assured!
But what about when life is good enough to read for pleasure? Or bad enough to escape through fantasy? Do the books we choose shape our character? Or do they simply reveal what we already are? Too philosophical, I know⊠Ralph Waldo Emerson â whom Iâve never read â said: âI cannot remember the books I have read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.â
This discussion aims to explore the reading choices we make and the connecting power of books: how they link people to ideas, ideas to ideas, and most importantly, people to people... Letâs meet and talk books.

**Abstract**
*Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit: From Intent to Implementation*
Spec-driven development flips the traditional workflow on its head: instead of code being the source of truth, the specification becomes the backbone of design, collaboration, and delivery. In this session, weâll explore how GitHub Spec-Kit enables teams to treat specifications as first-class artifactsâliving documents that drive architecture, implementation, and verification.
Youâll learn how Spec-Kit helps teams clearly express intent using structured, version-controlled specs that live alongside code. Weâll walk through a practical workflow that starts with defining system behavior and constraints, then progressively refines those specs into testable, automatable outcomes. Along the way, weâll show how specs can reduce ambiguity, improve cross-functional collaboration, and make design decisions explicit before a single line of production code is written.
This talk will cover:
--What spec-driven development is (and what it isnât)
--How GitHub Spec-Kit fits into modern developer workflows
--Using specs to align product, engineering, and AI-assisted development
--Real-world examples of turning specs into implementations with confidence
Whether youâre building greenfield systems, integrating AI into your stack, or trying to reduce costly rework, spec-driven development offers a scalable way to move faster without sacrificing clarity. Attendees will leave with concrete patterns and a clear mental model for adopting GitHub Spec-Kit in their own projects.
