Intellectual Property: Protection or Government-Granted Monopoly?
Join Liberty Labs Toronto for our tenth meetup on **Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 7:00 PM** near Yonge and Eglinton!
We’ll examine one of the most contentious issues in libertarian thought: patents, copyrights, and intellectual property laws. Are they legitimate protections for creators, or state-enforced monopolies that stifle innovation, raise prices, and violate the principles of true property rights?
This will be a balanced, thought-provoking discussion covering:
* The philosophical case for and against IP
* How patents actually work in practice (pharma, software, everyday inventions)
* Real-world effects on innovation, competition, and consumer costs
* Alternatives like trade secrets, first-mover advantage, and open-source models
* Canadian-specific IP rules and how they impact independent creators and entrepreneurs
What to expect:
* Open, respectful discussion with plenty of room for different libertarian viewpoints
* Complimentary appetizers and a drink ticket
* Everyone who attends will receive a million-dollar Zimbabwe note as a fun take-home reminder of real value vs. fiat illusions
* Connect with 10-20 liberty-minded Torontonians
Venue: Pickle Barrel (2300 Yonge St, at Yonge & Eglinton), right above Eglinton Station. Easy parking in the Yonge Eglinton Centre garage or nearby Green P lots.
Testing LLM Cooperation in Multi-Agent Simulation
This is a ticketed event. Please register at [this link](https://luma.com/lpikw708).
Ryan Faulkner explores various papers that address cooperation and safety in multi-agent LLM simulations. Some of the core topics will include:
* Moral behaviour of agents in high-stakes, zero-sum, and morally charged social dilemmas
* Governance and sanctioning dynamics and the ways that LLM agents often fail to cooperate and free-ride in common-pool resource game
* Mechanism design interventions like mediation, contracts, and elected leadership are explored to steer agents toward safer outcomes.
This research also reveals that LLMs adapt their behavior based on awareness of their conversational partner's identity.
**Event Schedule**
6:00 to 6:30 - Food and introductions
6:30 to 7:30 - Presentation and Q&A
7:30 to 9:00 - Open Discussions
If you can't make it in person, feel free to join the live stream starting at 6:30 pm, via [this link](https://www.youtube.com/@Trajectory-Labs/live).

TAICO April 2026 Meetup!
The TAICO team is happy to announce our next meetup at the Adaptavist office in Toronto. Much thanks to [Adaptavist](https://www.adaptavist.com/) for hosting!
**Wayfinding: How to Get to the Event**
* *Please be careful when using maps features on phones, some people have been redirected to a completely wrong address. The event is near Winners on Front St, which is just south, across the street, from Berczy Park (where the dog fountain is) so if you are not near that area, you are in the wrong place.*
**Registration and Event Details**
Our goal is to bring artificial intelligence and cybersecurity together. To do that, we need to explore what's happening in AI and what's happening in cybersecurity, and where the two intersect and collide. We're also working to understand how we solve problems in these areas, what that looks like, and how Canada can and will participate.
With that in mind, we're pleased to announce our speakers and the agenda for our next meeting!
**Sponsors**
And thanks to our host, [Adaptavist](https://www.adaptavist.com/)!
**Notes**
* *Unfortunately, we won't have pizza at this meetup due to a gap in sponsorship. We're actively working on securing sponsors for future events.*
**Agenda**
**Doors Open: 5:30PM**
**Event Start: 6:00PM**
* 👋 **Welcome and introductions**
* 🙏 **Thank you to our amazing hosts and sponsors!** 🎉
* 🎙️ **Speakers**
🎤 **Speaker #1: Dmitrii Strizhkov**
***Subject: Penetration Testing Automation with MCP***
***Abstract:***
*This presentation talks about my journey as the penetration testing practice lead, covering how I was able to increase efficiency and speed up the execution of my team's projects. I will discuss what MCP is, introduce how it can help in reconnaissance and enumeration phases, and analyze the results. I will also demo a solution that everyone can implement using the n8n low-code platform. Additionally, I will discuss and show why agents can help us, pentesters, in writing the reports (do the boring and tedious stuff). In the end, I will delve into why several precautionary measures should be undertaken before sending sensitive client data to commercial LLMs and suggest several solutions based on my experience. And as the final point, I would want to encourage my colleagues to experiment with and implement their own MCP-based solutions to speed up and make their engagements more effective.*
*About Dmitrii:*
*Dmitrii is the head of offensive security/penetration testing and practice lead at Parabellyx Cybersecurity.*
🎤 **Speaker #2: David Ahmann**
***Title: Stop Is Not a Safety Control: What AI Agent Security Looks Like at the Runtime Boundary***
**Abstract:**
*A lot of AI security discussion still focuses on prompts, policies, and tool declarations. Our research at ([CAISI](https://caisi.dev/)) has been looking at the harder question: what actually changes at execution time when an agent is told to stop, requires approval, or reaches a risky tool boundary? I’d share a practical, evidence-based talk on where AI agent control really holds or fails, drawing from our OpenClaw case-study work and our public research on agent governance, evidence posture, and approval gaps. The goal would be a practitioner-focused session for security leaders, builders, and evaluators trying to separate demo confidence from real control.*
**⚡ Lightning Talks and Demos**
Lightning Talks - 5 to 15 minutes long
1. Curtis Collicutt - A demo of a new programming language: [Vary](https://varylang.com) \- A typed language design to find "lies" in generated code
2. Janhavi Doshi - "Data, LLMs and the Law - What Every Builder in Canada Needs to Know Right Now"
3. **You? - Please reach out if you'd like to do a lightning talk or demo - anyone is welcome to demo something they are working one**
Please reach out to us if you'd like to present at the meetup. We are looking for people to talk about what they are working on, what they are building and learning, and are open to any level of experience and technical depth. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, we want to hear from you! We're all just out here building and learning.
👋 **See You There!**
Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you at the meetup!
Building Productive AI Agents: from Notion Agent to Founder-AI Execution
🚀 Join ProductTank Toronto for a night exploring how product people and founders are building **productive AI agents**—from configuring Notion agents to orchestrating systems that design, build, and ship real products.
This session is all about **execution**: how AI moves beyond experimentation into real workflows that extend your capacity and actually get things done.
If you've attended a Notion Toronto Community event before, you may already know our speakers. This time, they’re bringing their real-world AI practices to the ProductTank stage.
Featuring: [Dave Mence](https://www.linkedin.com/in/dave-mence/) and [Josh Gonsalves](https://www.linkedin.com/in/joshgonsalves94/)
## 🎤 **Dave Menceles, Program Ops Manager @ Notion**
***Quality In, Quality Out: Putting in the Human Work to Make AI Agents Shine***
**About Dave:**
Dave manages operations for a group of 120+ third-party Notion experts in one of Notion’s certified consultants programs. He leans on a handful of Notion Custom Agents to help him perform his day-to-day work that would otherwise extend way beyond his individual bandwidth.
**About his talk:**
Dave will share how his Q&A agent helps to support the members of his program with the deep program knowledge he’s imparted to the agent. He’ll also give an short guide on how to set up your own Notion Custom Agents that can work around the clock to perform helpful work on your behalf.
## **Josh Gonsalves, Founder @ Contraverse**
**AI That Builds AI: Orchestrating Agents Into a Real Product Team**
**About Josh:**
Josh is a Toronto-based founder building Formive, an AI platform for creating and sharing powerful AI tools and lead magnets without any code. His work focuses on turning AI into a leveraged system that can research, plan, build, and ship real products autonomously. He hasn’t written a single line of code. Instead, he directs AI systems that do.
**About his talk:**
Josh will break down how he uses AI coding tools like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor as a coordinated team of AI designers and engineers to build and ship a real product from scratch. He will show how Agent Skills, MCPs, and structured workflows enable these models to collaborate, handling everything from product research and planning to coding, review, bug fixing and shipping production-ready software.
This talk are especially **relevant for non-technical** founders and Product Managers. It demonstrates how you can create solid, production-ready software without being a traditional developer by directing systems instead of writing every line yourself.

Evil Twin Techniques For Real World Exploitation
Most people hear "Evil Twin" and think fake login page at a coffee shop. Harvest some passwords, call it a day.
That's the tutorial version. That's not what this talk is about.
Harold "superkojiman" Rodriguez is going to show what happens when you actually build out Evil Twin infrastructure and use it as a real attack platform. Not just phishing — direct methods of gaining access to target systems. The tooling, the infrastructure, the tradecraft. How a technique most people write off as basic becomes a legitimate entry point in an engagement.
**What we'll cover:**
\- How Evil Twin setups go way beyond credential harvesting
\- Direct methods for gaining access to target systems
\- Attack chains that start with network positioning
\- Real\-world scenarios where these techniques actually matter
\- The defensive gaps most security teams miss
**About the speaker:**
Harold has been doing this for over 15 years. Red team operations, penetration testing, vulnerability research, exploit development — the full spectrum. He's authored boot2root and CTF challenges, built open-source security tools, and written tutorials that have been floating around the community for years. If you've done any offensive security training or CTF work, there's a good chance you've run into his stuff.
**Details:**
\- Thursday\, April 16\, 2026
\- Doors at 6:30 PM\. Talk starts shortly after\.

Mob Programming at Mofer Coffee
Let’s do some coding together at a cafe! No more working alone in the weekend. Here, we write code together. And I mean together together. Not occupying-the-same-space-but-separate together.
Here’s how it works: Jennifer brings her mobile app project, tells everyone that it is like Pinterest for recipes and she’d like to work on the nav bar. Paul and Chloe think Jennifer's project is fascinating, and they join the group. They gather around Jennifer’s laptop and work on the nav bar for 2 hours. Jennifer is the one typing out the code while Paul and Chloe research, brainstorm, and offer suggestions.
If you’re feeling stuck on your own project or need a motivation boost, bring it to mob programming!
Want to learn by watching how others code and solve problems? Join someone else’s project at this event!
Oh and we love your half-done projects that you are a bit embarrassed to share. Absolutely bring those to the event!
**Discord**:
We use Discord to share screen & code snippets during the event. Also feel free to share your projects here before the event!
https://discord.gg/yvAGbh4PpD
**Event policy**:
* We have 0 tolerance for harassment.
* We don’t allow the projects that are not meant to be shared in public such as school assignments, interview tasks, or trade secrets.
* The goal is to write code. We discourage you from pitching business ideas here, doing code reviews, or spending the whole event on planning what to do.

AI is changing how art is made. But when does it stop being your work and start being the machine’s?
This month we're going to be doing a panel with with digital image, music, and written word artists, talking about at what point, while using AI in the creation process, does the work become not the artist creation?
We encourage audience participation during this event that will be moderated by Chris Slee.
Whether you’re deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.

Contra dance with Big Scioty May 2 - Clinton Heights Lutheran church
**Caller: Richard Ades**
**Band: The McKenzies**
**Clinton Heights Lutheran Church**
**15 Clinton Heights Ave, Columbus, OH 43202**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.

**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is powerful, but what if you could scale from a solo AI assistant to an entire team of specialized agents working in parallel? This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise.
We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration.
Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team.
