What even is 'Impact'? A workshop on the real-world consequences of your org
What the #%\*@ is impact?
In a world where corporations are judged on their social impact nations unite over goals for environmental sustainability and happiness is considered as a rival metric for a countryâs GDPâ organisations need to measure the impact their organisation has on the real-world, not just their own bottom line.
But what even IS impact? Is it important for companies that donât have social or environmental goals? How do you measure it?
This workshop will first introduce the concept of Impact, followed by a dive into how itâs defined and measured around the world in a dozen different domains and ultimately how we might apply it to produce products that pack a punch.

Grokking organisational impact is an area of learning JJ could get lost in, and possibly already has :-). As an area that he is spending time on in his day to day, yet still feeling like heâs a beginner, heâs very much looking forward to sharing whatâs he learning and getting deeper into the concepts alongside you all. How is it that you can Help kids or yourself to become a better student!
Too many kids as well as teenagers and adults have problems with study.
Today's meetup will inform you about the basics in STUDY TECHNOLOGY that provides an understanding of the basics of learning and supplies exact ways to overcome all the pitfalls one can encounter during study. This is applicable to young children, teenagers (or their parents that are trying to help them) and adults alike.
Study Technology shows how one studies in order to comprehend a subject so one can apply it. Laws on which learning is based and workable methods have also been discovered for anyone to apply for themselves or when teaching others.
Too many students graduate from school and college unable to put to use what theyâve learned in school.
Itâs not that theyâre stupid or that their teachers didnât know how to teach.
More than likely it traces back to the one thing missing from most educationsâlearning how to learn in the first place.
We all went to school, yet isnât it odd that no one taught us how to study?
The information presented at this meetup can help anyone improve others or his own ability to learn.
It is a practical tool that parents and teachers alike can use to enhance a child's study performance. Youâll learn the barriers that lie between your own or a child's education.
And you will very quickly learn how to overcome them.
This technology will enable you or a child to pursue any subject with skill and confidence.
Teachers who have "hard to handle/distributive " or slow learners in class will absolutely love the amazing turn around most often seen in improved behaviour and student performance in class.
If you or your child has difficulties at school (or learning new things at work or online) than this meetup is important to you.
If you can not make it to our meetup than contact the organizer and arrange it to suit your time.
This technology can if one was to live far away be taught online. (extension course)
You may offcourse also opt to have this technology taught to your own child by experienced volunteeer staff or learn about this yourself and transfer this knowledge to those you want to have better grades.
Yes it is possible to improve anyone's study performance. All it takes is just 5 steps.
See you at this meetup.

ThoughtstormÂŽ Session Topic: Intl Day of Happiness, Yarraville
Would you like to enhance your creativity, confidence and increase your awareness? Weâd love you to join us to ThoughtstormÂŽ the topic International Day of Happiness in the warm, friendly environment of the Yarraville Community Centre.
How Thoughtstorm came about
Thoughtstorm is a technique developed from a seed of speculation: are there more effective (rational, cooperative, compassionate) ways of thinking? Methods whose long-term consequences will not lead to oblivion. This is the genesis of Thoughtstorm.
What is it?
For anyone with an interest in leadership, deeper conversations or creative problem solving, something much more than a group discussion occurs. What is experienced in Thoughtstorm is a forgotten sensory ability - mind-linking. An evolution in human thinking and learning.
The direction moves from a narrow range of possibility into discovering corecepts, when individual minds merge into a much more powerful collective awareness and experience a deeper, more compassionate comprehension of reality. Corecepts trigger intuitive recognition and agreement by the group, a âWhy, of course!â reaction.
New insights guaranteed!
Because this process taps into abilities already present in the human mind and into aggregates of consciousness straining to express themselves, very little practice is required.
Would you like to see and understand things in a way that is new for all of us? Would you like to develop your consciousness and your creative intelligence? Would you like to be inspired to create positive change?
Then come and join us to Thoughtstorm together.
If itâs your first time to Thoughtstorm, please RSVP early to give plenty of time to arrange a brief prep call on Zoom to go over the Thoughtstorm procedures so we can all get started on time together.
**Agenda:**
6.30pm - Arrive, meet and greet, read over Thoughtstorm instructions
6.45pm - Begin the Thoughtstorm
7.45pm - Finish
When you RSVP we will be in touch with the details.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Exploring Toxic Masculinity
Please join us this Sunday as we discuss Masculinity in the 21st century. This session will be hosted by Jefferson.
**We will meet at the Queensberry Hotel, 593 Swanston Street, Carlton (100m north of Melbourne Central) at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp.**
**We kindly ask attendees to pay $5 to attend to help with MeetUp costs & venue costs. This is not mandatory, but if you are a regular member it would be appreciated. Any extra moneys will go towards buying food and drinks for the table. The venue also expects us to spend money as a group, so please buy at least one drink or meal from the bar.**
There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary for this session, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge others' assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged.
Find below some questions to consider, however note these are free-ranging events and the below serve merely as a springboard for the discussion:
* What is the Manosphere, and what is Masculinity (both healthy and toxic)?
* Are traditional masculine traits healthy for individuals and societies?
* Does modern society reward or punish traditionally masculine traits?
* What virtues, behaviours, etc. should be prioritized in raising boys?
* Are modern educational systems, communities and the economy well-suited to boysâ developmental tendencies?
* Is the idea of âhealthy masculinityâ necessary, or should we move beyond gendered virtue frameworks entirely?
* Should boys be raised differently from girls, or should parenting be largely gender-neutral?
* What do we make of cultural figures such as Jordan Peterson, Andrew Tate, Stefan Molyneux, and so on?
* Does the concept of toxic masculinity unfairly target men as a class?
* Does the concept of toxic masculinity itself produce harm by pathologizing male identity?
* Is there an equivalent concept for femininity, and should there be?
* Is the idea of a âwar on menâ descriptively accurate, or primarily rhetorical?
* Is the perception of a âwar on menâ driven more by material conditions or cultural narratives?
* Are men uniquely disadvantaged in certain domains, and does that constitute injustice?
* Is the manosphere a reaction to real socio-economic change or just another identity narrative of victimhood?
Feel free to post any questions, comments, videos or links related to the topic in the discussion page below.
Hope to see you there!

March 2026 - The Sympathizer
Hello book lovers,
Our book for March is "The Sympathizer" by Viet Thanh Nguyen
It is April 1975, and Saigon is in chaos. At his villa, a general of the South Vietnamese army is drinking whiskey and, with the help of his trusted captain, drawing up a list of those who will be given passage aboard the last flights out of the country. The general and his compatriots start a new life in Los Angeles, unaware that one among their number, the captain, is secretly observing and reporting on the group to a higher-up in the Viet Cong.
The Sympathizer is the story of this captain: a man brought up by an absent French father and a poor Vietnamese mother, a man who went to university in America, but returned to Vietnam to fight for the Communist cause. A gripping spy novel, an astute exploration of extreme politics, and a moving love story, The Sympathizer explores a life between two worlds and examines the legacy of the Vietnam War in literature, film, and the wars we fight today.

Welcome to **The Thought Experiment** â a new kind of meetup where we explore big *âWhat ifâŚ?â* scenarios in a fun but thoughtful way. Each session, weâll pick one scenario (from global crises to wild sci-fi situations) and work together to imagine solutions, strategies, and possibilities.
This is for **curious minds of all kinds** â students, professionals, creatives, or anyone who enjoys thinking differently. Some people might bring research, others just bring imagination. Either way, weâll brainstorm together and see where the discussion takes us.

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
So this month's prompt is more general. I think we can all agree that we are living in "unique" times that require coping skills. I think that one role and/or purpose of philosophy is to help us deal with our daily lives and our "unique" times. So, let's share our feelings and thoughts about which philosopher/philosophy we turn to in order to deal with our crazy events. Who/what helps you stay focused in your daily life and helps you sleep at night. I find that Stoicism with a little philosophical pessimism mixed in goes a long way in helping me deal with what I see as very destructive, fearful and mean spirited public policies at both the state and federal levels. Hope to see you on March 28th!
Let's try a Friday Night Fish Fry!
We thought of one of the interesting things that can be enjoyed at this time of the year. We will be meeting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a "Fish Fry" in Marian Hall on Friday, March 27th at 5:00 PM.
It might be fun for you to experience what has become a tradition on the Fridays before Easter. They will have fried fish or baked fish, French fries and Cole slaw, as well as beverages, all for $16.00 for adults. They will have other beverages and desserts available for sale, as well. We have never tried this, and sometimes there are quite a few people at these events so we hope that we will be able to find each other easily. I'll try to have signs outside Marian Hall that Identify our group. We hope to have you join us!
The Clawwww
OpenClaw, NemoClaw, personal assistants, 24/7 agents. What does it all mean? How does it all work and what should we know about it?
Whether youâre deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.

Dinner & a Movie: PROJECT HAIL MARY at Marcus Pickerington!
Join us as we get together to see Ryan Gosling and Sandra Huller in the highly anticipated sci-fi adventure, PROJECT HAIL MARY! The film is based on the best-selling novel of The Martian and follows a man who awakens on a spacecraft before realizing his mission to save Earth. Hereâs a description, trailer and plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: A science teacher wakes up on a spaceship, light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission to save the Earth. The film is directed by the filmmaking due Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 and 22 Jump Street, Into and Across the Spider-Verse) and is based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir (The Martian). The film stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra Huller (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest), Lionel Boyce, Milana Vayntrub and Ken Leung.
TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VYsnngkS_U
BUZZ AND REVIEWS: The buzz and reviews for PROJECT HAIL MARY are off-the-charts good! The film is earning a 95% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics call it an âold school blockbuster crowd-pleaserâ and âa new sci-fi classic!â Itâs âdeeply hopeful,â well-acted,â funny,â âdramatic,â and âexceptionally rousing throughout!â Others call it âsomething truly magicalâ and one that âweâll be talking about this one for decades to come!â And I believe Slashfilm says it best: âIt will lift up and squeeze your heart, crack you up with laughter, and give you a sense of hope and wonder in a way that few movies have been able to inspire.â
MOVIE PLAN: Please purchase your ticket for the 2:30pm SuperScreen DLX showing and meet in the lobby area between 2:05 and 2:15pm! Tickets already on sale and will likely move fast for this hot ticket / opening weekend showing so advance ticket purchase as soon as possible is advised! Once you have yours, please list your seat number in the Comments section of this event. As a headâs up, this is a longer movie at 2hrs 36mins.
DINNER PLAN: Dinner immediately following the movie at 5:30pm at group favorite, FUGU SUSHI, located just next door! Separate RSVP required for the Dinner / Movie portions of this event. An RSVP here means you're signed up for the MOVIE! This portion will be open as long as seats remain. If you also plan to join for dinner, please also RSVP in the separate event listing for the dinner portion of this event.
Should be a good one, Dan
