### 😎 Want to try something new?
**Good!**
**Swing by and try Jiu Jitsu ❤️**
***
☀️ **Especially for women**, Jiu Jitsu is incredibly beneficial — it works **even if you're smaller than your opponent**.
👩 That’s why I’m passionate about sharing it — **especially with women**.
👨 **But men are absolutely welcome too!**
We’re a small women’s group right now, so yes — men are in the room as well.
**If you feel uncomfortable training with men, no worries — you can train with me.**
***
💡 **Why Jiu Jitsu?**
Studies show it's great for:
* 🧠 Fitness & mental focus (think: **chess for the body**)
* 💪 Confidence boost
* 🧘 Relief for **(C)PTSD, depression, anxiety, fear**... you name it
***
✌️ **What you need**
* Just **your body**
* Tight clothes (e.g. leggings & T-shirt — no zippers or pockets)
* Fitness level? **Doesn't matter.**
* Age? **Doesn't matter.** (Anthony Bourdain started at 58!)
***
🗓 **Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 6:00 PM**
This event is beginner Friendly. More experienced players are still free to come along. I will explain the rules before the first game at 7:15 so please arrive on time if you're new. The rules may be different than other versions of mafia that you played.
There is limited capacity so we can't accept every RSVP request. If we aren't able to accept your RSVP event please come to a future.
📚Reading books and discussing them are two distinct experiences! Conversations about books and sharing insights help us better appreciate literature and enrich our lives.
Let's grab a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and discuss books we're currently reading or have recently enjoyed—whether poetry, fiction, or non-fiction. Bring your physical book or e-reader.
There's no formal structure or agenda—just books and good conversation.💬
It's a perfect place to get book recommendations and rediscover your reading momentum if you've hit a slump. We welcome readers of all backgrounds and interests!
⚠️**Something Happened?**
If something unpleasant happened to you, it may happen to others. Even if it seems minor, don't hesitate to reach out to me.
🔍 **How to find us?**
* When I reach the venue, I'll leave a comment in the meetup where the group is seated. Normally, the booking is in my name, so you can ask the staff for the group.
* If you're unable to find us, leave a comment in the meetup page. I'll be able to guide you.
We highly encourage you to move between tables and strike up conversations with fellow book lovers. These discussions about literature and reading recommendations are often the highlight of the event!
As an organizer, I'm always looking for feedback about the event and suggestions for new events, so feel free to suggest ideas to me. 💡
I look forward to seeing you all! 😊
Analytics: Outcomes, Experimentation Intelligence Events This Week
Hi all,
Let's go to Howth for a hike.
We're meeting at **Howth DART station at 9:30am**. We'll start walking from Howth DART station at 9:45am.
We'll follow the green route (The Cliff Walk) and finish around 12:30pm. After the walk we can stay in Howth for some chatting, drinks, and food with those who’d like to hang out a bit longer!
**This is a moderate hike.** Please get prepared accordingly.
I'm a tall guy with a man bun. I'll share updates to find each other easier in the morning. Please keep checking the event updates.
You can download the free [Discover Howth App](https://hiddenhowthexperiences.com/discover-howth-app/) which has all Howth hiking routes included in it. Each map also points out places of interest and historical spots along the route.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
**Hike Overview:**
**Meeting time**: 9:30 am @ Howth train station, in front of the shop called Day Break.
**Departure time**: 9:45 am (Howth)
**Route**: We'll follow green route and finish at the Howth train station.
**Distance**: 8km
**Walking Time**: 2 hours 30 minutes
**Total time**: 3 hours
**End time**: 12:30 pm

DART (train) Station in the heart of the village. You are taken along the harbour before climbing away from the village around the Nose of Howth and onto the clifftops.
Take in the stunning views of Lambay Island and Ireland's Eye, and be overwhelmed by the heady scent of coconut from the bright yellow gorse on the heath.
The Baily Lighthouse - the last of Ireland's lighthouses to become automated - comes into view before you ascend towards the car park at 'The Summit' and return to Howth Village along a path running parallel to your outward route.

Dear Professional Overthinkers,
Here’s a treat for us 🙃
Eternity is a concept we invoke easily and examine rarely.
We talk about forever while living in short bursts of attention, deadlines, and finite lives. Is eternity something we genuinely desire—or something we reach for out of fear of ending?
This meetup explores whether meaning depends on limits, whether mortality gives life its urgency, and whether an eternal existence would enrich human life or quietly drain it of significance. We’ll ask why eternity comforts us, why it unsettles us, and whether a life without an endpoint would still feel meaningful—or simply exhausting.
No conclusions required. Curiosity encouraged.
Kick off the New Year by doing something positive and meeting new people. This is a voluntary cleanup organized by Alternative Dublin. We do this event every year!
We are looking for volunteers to come help us clean up the canal Sunday at 11am.
Meet new people and do something different on your Sunday morning. We are expecting 20-30 people and plan to have this as a social event and volunteering.
We will be meeting at Portobello Canal at 11am and heading in both directions. The meeting point is outside Atlas Language School. If your planning to come please register for a ticket so we can prep supplies.
**[Register to help here](https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/canal-cleanup-dry-january-tickets-1978397790047?aff=oddtdtcreator)**
If you want to help us please register for a free ticket, this free ticket will allow us to email you and send any updates. Tickets in our bio on our profile.
The idea of this meetup isn't just to clean the area after one session, it's to raise awareness about leaving your waste behind. How it affects others, it's to start a conversation about how the amount of waste increases everywhere as people stop caring during festive (and sunny) periods.
We believe if people see others giving up their time to clean up - they are less likely to do it.
Our message is clear 'don't be that person'
TIME: 11am-1.30pm
LOCATION: Portobello (front of Atlas language school)
NEEDED: If you have spare black bags, gloves, sweeper & scoop please bring them. (we will buy some so don't worry)
If any local business in the area sees this and wants to get involved with water or event some food please get in touch.
**Dumpling Masterclass: A Unique & Unforgettable Hands-On Dining Experience**

After crafting your dumplings, you’ll enjoy them in a relaxed setting with a curated Asian-inspired meal. Savor signature dishes like kimchi, crispy okonomiyaki, and savory scallion pancakes, complemented by the finest Japanese beer—a visual and flavor feast.
And here’s the surprise: one lucky participant will win a special gift to take home!!!

Hi all,
I’m kicking off our movie viewing for 2026 with the green jersey on in support of two of our best actors, Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley, with the screening of Hamnet which looks set to be nominated for some, if not many Oscars. Please join me this ***Sunday, January 11th at 2.50pm*** for the screening of ***Hamnet.***
Northern Irish novelist Maggie O‘Farrell’s Hamnet (2020) managed to captivate not just the many awards juries who bequeathed garlands upon it, but also a wide general readership. This beautiful, moving adaptation, created in collaboration with Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, 2020), is sure to meet with a similar response.
Agnes (Jessie Buckley) encounters and is wooed by fledgling playwright William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal). While William plies his trade in London, Agnes remains in Stratford to look after their children, keeping a particularly watchful eye on sickly Judith (Olivia Lynes). However, it is her twin brother Hamnet (Jacobi Jupe) who is unexpectedly taken by the plague, leaving the parents unspeakably bereft.
While Mescal provides exemplary support, the film belongs to Buckley and her astonishing performance as the free spirit transmuted into a raw nerve, grieving while her husband mourns.
Screening is taking place in screen one. Only four tickets sold as of Monday pm but I would recommend booking in advance just to be sure.
I will be in the Foyer from 2.30pm with my purple baseball hat.
See you all there,
Martin
**✨ Step into the strange, the magical, and the wildly entertaining — all in one unforgettable night at The Sugar Club, Dublin! ✨**
We’re hosting a chat-show–style event where Irish folklore, psychic insight, and a dash of mischief collide. Expect laughs, goosebumps, weird facts you’ll want to repeat to your friends, and a front-row seat to mysteries usually reserved for misty forests and ancient stone circles.
**🎤 Your host will guide the evening with humor, heart, and plenty of curiosity** — weaving stories, insights, and unexpected moments into a one-of-a-kind experience.

## 🌿 Special Guest: Pat Noone — Ireland’s Legendary Fairy Whisperer
Yes… an *actual* fairy whisperer. From County Galway.
Pat has spent his life tuned into the ancient energies of the Irish land — connecting with fairies, reading nature’s rhythms, and working with healing earth energies. He uses copper dowsing, intuition, and old Celtic wisdom to uncover (and unblock!) what lies beneath the surface.
He’s compassionate, grounded, and genuinely fascinating… and he has stories you won’t hear anywhere else.
***
## 🔮 Also Joining Us: Gráinne Ní Mheálóid — Tarot Reader Extraordinaire
Gráinne has been reading tarot on South William Street since 1999 and brings a warm, funny, deeply insightful presence to every session.
Her style is clear, empowering, and refreshingly down-to-earth — tarot for real people with real questions, not fortune-teller clichés.

## ⭐ Why You’ll Love This Event
Because it’s *not* your typical evening out.
This is entertainment with depth — a mix of mythology, intuition, humor, live conversation, psychic insight, folklore, and a sprinkle of “did-that-just-happen?” moments.
Perfect if you love:
🌙 Irish culture
🌿 Folklore
🔮 The mystical
✨ Wellness + intuition

**Doing KPIs Right: a KEY to Analytics (and AI!) Impact!**
On the one hand, KPIs are such a Business 101 concept that it may seem a little silly to dedicate an entire session to the topic. On the other hand, KPIs get handled so poorly so often that a case could be made that this meetup could just be one of the most impactful sessions of the entire year!
We’re starting off the year at a new location: [COhatch Upper Arlington](https://www.cohatch.com/locations/columbus/upper-arlington/) but with a familiar speaker, Tim Wilson! We’ll be back at Rev1 in February, when the speaker will presumably not be Tim.
Tim will make the case that effectively measuring performance of projects, campaigns, and initiatives (and even meetups!) should be a foundation for any data analytics program. Topics covered will include: the “two magic questions” of performance measurement, how to help business partners distinguish between outcomes and outputs, and effective tactics for collaboratively establishing KPI targets.
He will also stick his neck out by demonstrating some of these techniques in real-time by measuring whether his talk lives up to the promise of this description!
All CBUSDAW events are free thanks to our 2026 Sponsors: Clarivoy, Conductrics, What Box Consulting Group, and Piwik PRO.

**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.

**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is rapidly changing how developers write, understand, and maintain code. Powered by generative AI and deeply integrated into modern development environments, Copilot acts as an intelligent coding assistant, helping developers move faster while maintaining quality and focus.
In this session, we’ll explore what GitHub Copilot is, how it works, and where it fits into a real-world developer workflow. We’ll break down what Copilot can (and cannot) do, where it can be used, and how licensing differs for individuals and organizations. Most importantly, this talk goes beyond theory with a live, hands-on demo showcasing Copilot inside the IDE and on GitHub, demonstrating how it can assist with code generation, refactoring, learning new APIs, and accelerating day-to-day development tasks.
Designed for developers, technical leads, and engineering managers, this session provides a practical introduction to AI-assisted development, highlights best practices for getting value from Copilot, and closes with guidance on how to continue learning and evolving alongside this rapidly advancing tool.
Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how GitHub Copilot can enhance productivity, improve developer experience, and fit into modern software teams today, not someday.

Coming in January 2026: a warm, reflective gathering to close one chapter and open another. More details coming soon.
Together, we look back at the moments, shifts, and practices that shaped the past year—what worked, what surprised us, and what we’re ready to release. Then we lean forward into who we want to become: the intentions, experiments, and stories we want next January’s version of ourselves to be telling. Happy New Year Colleagues,
The next Columbus Futurists public forum will be **Thursday January 15 at 12:00 pm noon** (eastern) [https://osu.zoom.us/j/93451873651?pwd=RXIyZ2t5RjRqRG02UGQ1aEFVQ1NFZz09](https://osu.zoom.us/j/93451873651?pwd=RXIyZ2t5RjRqRG02UGQ1aEFVQ1NFZz09) Please come prepared to offer your **"What if?" questions for 2026**. (I will offer seven to begin our conversation.)
I also would like to announce the publication of my latest book: *[Anticipatory Biographies: Personal Histories of the Future](https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-032-08912-0)*, the tenth volume in the “Anticipation Science” series. Grounded in design fiction, futures research, anticipation science, and scenario writing, *Anticipatory Biographies* envisions how the world will be reshaped by artificial intelligence, technological automation, climate change, political disintegration, and the decline of higher education. This work of creative non-fiction bridges literary and scholarly forms, blending biography and design fiction with research-based insights to offer a narrative-based method for exploring futures. Ed Finn, Director of the Center for Science and the Imagination at Arizona State University says: “In this book **David Staley has invented a delightful new genre: the future biography.** He invites us to step into gritty, thrilling, and inspiring futures elbow-to-elbow with the characters living those stories. *Anticipatory Biographies* beautifully synthesizes Staley’s training as a historian, his expertise as a futurist, and his desire to ignite the imagination of his readers.”
Hope you'll be able to read it, and hope to see you all on the 15th.
