**NOTE: Meetup is SATURDAY this month!** A special Meetup this month. Some sad news recently reached us that our dear friend and Meetup stalwart, Simon, passed away in April. Simon's mother reached out to us to let us know and to share that our little get-togethers were among Simon's favorite activities, and she talked about how he used to call her and they would discuss how he was going to vote for our next episode. She told us that Simon was very devoted to environmental activism and suggested The Nature Conservancy (nature.org), if anyone wanted to give something in his name. In honor of Simon, let's choose this month from four environmentally themed episodes. *Galaxy 4* \- The Doctor\, Steven\, and Vicki encounter a planet where two alien races are so busy fighting with each other that they can't get it together to cooperate to escape the planet's impending doom\. Pretty far\-fetched\! \(3 animated episodes and 1 live\-action\.\) *The Green Death -* The 3rd Doctor, Jo, and UNIT meet Global Chemicals and the mysterious BOSS, who promises unlimited cheap, clean energy so long as you don't mind the giant carnivorous maggots. *The Android Invasion -* The 4th Doctor and Sarah battle the Kraals, a race of people who have so devastated their own planet with radiation and pollution that even Earth looks attractive. *Arachnids in the UK/Praxeus* \- The 13th Doctor and the Fam encounter first hand the monstrous consequences of a whole lot of pollution\. I desperately want to see it!" and 4 being "Meh."), and we will abide by the choice of the attendees. For the Meetup itself, we ask everyone to bring something to drink and something to eat (snacks/munchies - you don't need to bring a whole ham or something!) to share with the group. We will be playing two games of **Nemesis:** **Retaliation** with up to 4 players per game. All experience levels welcome. Expect the game teach to start promptly within the first 10 minutes. In **Nemesis: Retaliation** players take on the roles of highly trained marines, entering the alien nest with strict orders and the most advanced tools available. But will they be well-prepared enough to face the unrelenting horde that awaits them? Players must survive against overwhelming odds and the possibility of betrayal at every step. This is a semi-cooperative game in which you and your crewmates must survive on a ship infested with hostile organisms. To win the game, you have to complete one of the two objectives dealt to you at the start of the game and survive. DC/DOX '26, the celebration of documentaries, is one of the best film festivals in the DMV. For the ArtHouse, we'll see The Lorraine, the first feature-length documentary about the iconic Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, and its owners, Walter and Loree Bailey. Throughout his career, director Sam Pollard has received numerous awards and honors. In 1998, he was nominated for the Best Feature Documentary Academy Award for *4 Little Girls* with Spike Lee. He won a Peabody Award for *When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts* in 2006 and received three Emmy Awards between 2007 and 2010. He also received the International Documentary Association’s Avid Excellence in Editing Award in 2008 and their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020, followed by a Career Achievement Peabody Award in 2021. But the story of the Lorraine is far greater than that one tragic day. This documentary captures the astonishing and inspiring story of an enterprising Black couple’s pursuit of the American Dream, told through the voices of those who lived it. Their purchase of the motel in 1945 laid the foundation for a hub of social, political, and creative power, making the Lorraine a cradle of innovation and community-building. Civil rights demonstrations were planned there. Musical hits were written there. The film captures it all, including the Black community’s determined effort decades later to save the building, preserving both the history that unfolded there and the powerful symbolism it continues to embody.

Welcome to Casual Boardgames, where we enjoy classic tabletop games and social deduction games while bonding over good food, drinks, and great conversations. 
We started this group to meet new people and make new friends, and bonding over games in a relaxed atmosphere is a great way to do that. We currently meet near route 23 and Polaris Parkway, and this is close to areas like Powell, Lewis Center, Worthington, and parts of Westerville and Columbus. 
Feel free to bring your own games or play one of the many games our members bring. If you are inexperienced, we will help you learn. 
Here are just a few examples of the kind of games we play. 
Tabletop/board games: Splendor, Catan, Azul, Dominion, 7 Wonders… 
Social deduction games: Code Names, Chameleon, Werewords… 
IMPORTANT: 
1. While we love playing a variety of games and competing, we are not just about the games. We interact and talk while playing, and this leads to a lot of laughter and fun. If you just want to compete and focus solely on the game, then this is probably not the group you are looking for. 
2. Many people join groups like this and never (or rarely) show up after weeks or months. If you join and never really come, we will eventually remove you from the group as a courtesy to our members. Why? Because limiting group conversations (on the app) to regular members makes communication and planning much easier. Also, while it may be rare, it protects members from people who join because they are interested in following a person instead of having a real interest in our group. If you get removed, it is just because you haven’t come, and we follow this protocol as a courtesy to our regular game players.

Sleep in on Sundays. When you've had your fill of pajama-time, roll out and have some tasty brunch with your fellow Humanists!
