"From Reactive Streams -> Virtual Threads -> Flows", "Armeria μservice Fmwk"
Agenda:

20:00 Armeria: The Microservices Framework You Haven't Tried Yet - Dominik Dorn
21:00 networking
**From Reactive Streams, through Virtual Threads, to Flows**
Since Java's inception, the programming model has shifted from synchronous to asynchronous, and for good reasons: improved performance, higher throughput, and lower latency. Reactive Streams greatly simplified the development of reactive systems by incorporating elements of functional programming.
However, with the introduction of Virtual Threads in Java 21, Java shifts back towards a purely synchronous model, while retaining high performance.
Does this render initiatives like Reactive Streams obsolete? Can we combine the benefits of Reactive Streams with the approachability of Virtual Threads, the elasticity of modern Java, and the guarantees of functional programming? And what are the tradeoffs?

Are you looking for a new hobby that's not only fun but also helps you grow?
Join us at **Blue Danube Leaders**, a Toastmasters club where you can improve your **public speaking**, **leadership**, and **communication** skills - all in a friendly, encouraging environment.
Whether you’re just starting out or are already a seasoned speaker, you're welcome as our guest.
**What happens at a Meeting?**
Our meetings follow a structured, interactive format:
* **Welcome and Introduction**
The meetings begin with a warm welcome from the Club President and the host (called *Toastmaster of the Evening)*. Then, we do a short introduction round where everyone - guests too - say a few words on the evening's topic.
* **Word of the Day**
A challenge that builds your language skills and sharpens your attention to word choice. A special word is introduced and everyone is invited to use this word whenever they speak.
* **Table Topics**
This is an exciting segment! Volunteers - guests too! - are invited to speak for 1-2 minutes on a surprise question or topic. It's a great way to practice thinking on your feet.
* ***Short Break of 10 minutes***
* **Prepared Speeches**
* Members deliver speeches prepared ahead of time, usually 5-7 minutes in length. Each speech is a step in the Toastmasters learning pathway.
* **Evaluations**
Every speech will be thoughtfully evaluated by a designated Evaluator. These evaluations focus on strengths, improvement tips, and encouragement. It's a crucial part of the Toastmasters experience.
* **Role Reports**
Throughout the meeting, members take on supportive roles that ensure the flow of the evening and give everyone a chance to grow.
**Be our guest!**
This meetup is open to guests.
Toastmasters have a separate platform for the member registration. There are always 10+ people in the meeting.
Join us at **18:45 CET** for a casual **Meet & Greet**;
The program starts **sharp at 19:00 CET.**
After the meeting, we often head to a nearby spot for food or drinks - a great way to relax and connect!

Single Party in Wien mal anders

Menschen lesen lernen: Secret Identity Spiele
### Was sind Social Deduction Games?
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
What could be more fascinating than decoding human psychology and learning how to read people? Recognizing what a look, a hesitation, or a subtle shift in someone's voice means is a true superpower. And the best part: we learn fastest and most intensely when we are having real fun—right in the middle of a game, laughing and experimenting together!
That is exactly what this board game round is all about! The main focus here is on Secret Identity & Social Deduction Games.
We are setting up a dedicated table for Social Deduction Games at the public board game night in the Pauluskirche. The board game night itself is free of charge. Since spots at our gaming table are limited, I have to limit the capacity for this event.
**What are Social Deduction Games?**
In these games, everyone is assigned a secret identity. The group is divided: most play honestly, but a select few are secret saboteurs (as seen in classics like Werewolves). The goal? To find out who is telling the truth and who is lying through discussions, bluffing, targeted questioning, and observing body language.
In addition, we might also bring a few standard deduction games to the table, which focus on razor-sharp logic, combining clues, and solving puzzles rather than reading people.
**What to expect:**
Pure practice instead of dry theory: No complicated rulebooks to study beforehand—all games will be explained directly and simply on-site.
Playful self-discovery: Test your intuition, sharpen your people skills, and experiment with your own power of persuasion.
Tons of fun: Experience a dynamic evening full of thrills, twists, and great conversations.
Whether you are a master bluffer or an absolute beginner—come by, play along, and learn the art of reading people from a whole new perspective!
"Direct-Style Concurrency & Resiliency" + "Deterministic, AI-driven dev-flows"
Agenda (preliminary)
18:00 doors open
18:20 welcome
18:30 **A Tour of Ox 1.0: Direct-Style Concurrency and Resiliency**
19:30 break

20:00 **Maybe(!): "Sandcat: Docker & dev container setup for securely running AI agents"**
21:00 Networking
**A Tour of Ox 1.0: Direct-Style Concurrency and Resiliency**
Ox provides a toolkit for safe concurrency and resiliency for Scala on the JVM. After two years of prototyping, we’re delighted to showcase the final product. With Ox, you can build and deliver direct-style Scala applications today.
In the code-first presentation, we’ll begin with concurrency (including lower-level structured concurrency scopes and higher-level concurrency operators). Next, we’ll proceed to Ox’s approach to error management and type safety in that area. We’ll then explore Ox’s direct-but-reactive streaming library before concluding with its built-in resiliency toolkit.
Software is never finished, so we’ll also share what lies ahead for Ox specifically and our plans for direct-style Scala generally.

Adam Warski is the co-founder of SoftwareMill and head of R&D at VirtusLab, where he primarily generates code using Java, Scala, Rust and other interesting technologies. Any ideas or insights he gains usually end up on his blog ([https://warski.org/articles](https://warski.org/articles)).
**Maybe(!): "Orca: Deterministic, AI-driven development flows"**
Orca Flow scripts orchestrate coding agents. No need to try to convince the LLM that reviewing code until all review comments are fixed is a good idea - the script will ensure that's the way it will be done. No need to spend tokens on calling a code formatter, switch branches or creating PRs. Orca Flow scripts are written in Scala, and executable using scala-cli. That's the only component you'll need to install - everything else will be downloaded on-the-fly. Orca Flow scripts read like Python, but are type-safe, so you can know that your script will execute just fine. Orca works with Claude & Codex (now), but the plans are much wider than that!
**Maybe(1): "Sandcat: a Docker & dev container setup for securely running AI agents**
Sandcat is a Docker & [dev container](https://containers.dev) setup for securely running AI agents. The environment is sandboxed, with controlled network access and transparent secret substitution. All of this is done while retaining the convenience of working in an IDE like VS Code.
All container traffic is routed through a transparent [mitmproxy](https://mitmproxy.org/) via WireGuard, capturing HTTP/S, DNS, and all other TCP/UDP traffic without per-tool proxy configuration. A straightforward allow/deny list-based engine controls which network requests go through, and a secret substitution system injects credentials at the proxy level so the container never sees real values.

*Context, Language & AI in Domain‑Driven Design*

*Speaker:* **[Gunnar Grosch](https://www.linkedin.com/in/gunnargrosch/)**\, Developer Advocate at Sinch \| ex\-AWS \| AWS Serverless Hero
*About the talk:*
Building agentic AI workflows typically requires Step Functions or complex database state machines to handle human delays. AWS Lambda Durable Functions change that. You write sequential code in a single Lambda function that can suspend for days and resume instantly, and you only pay for active compute time. In this session, we will orchestrate Amazon Bedrock conversational agents using the Sinch Conversation API to handle inbound interactions. You will learn how to dispatch AI specialists, use simple callbacks to wait for asynchronous human input, and replace heavy infrastructure boilerplate with native durable execution.
**"How RBI is automating its cloud foundation with AWS Step Functions"**
*Speaker:* **[Roman Jokel](https://www.linkedin.com/in/roman-jokel/),** Cloud Architect (Raiffeisen Informatik)
**/ [Florian Ettinger](https://www.linkedin.com/in/florian-ettinger/),** Solution Architect (AWS)
*About the talk:*
How can AWS Step Functions transform daily cloud operations? Join us to explore how RBI is using workflow orchestration to automate its cloud foundation. We’ll share practical insights from our Cloud Center of Excellence, demonstrating how Step Functions power landing zone operations, simplify automation, speed up deployments and enable scalable cloud governance across the organization.

Wenn intelligente Agenten außer Kontrolle
**Agentic AI trifft Cybersecurity – Wenn intelligente Agenten außer Kontrolle geraten**
**Dr.
