Threats & Demos /Platform Engineering with Backstage
Welcome back to the Belgian Developer Experience Network!
We have 2 technical talks lined up for our fifth Belgian Developer Experience Network meetup! Mark your calendars for the **24th of February**, because it is going to be an evening packed with insights into using AI securely and effectively. Make sure to be there for the deep dives, stay for the discussion and networking.
**Schedule:**
\- 18:00 \- 18:20 \- Doors open
\- 18:20 \- 18:30 \- Intro
\- 18:30 \- 19:30 \- Session 1: MCP: Threats\, Tools\, and a Few \(Hacking\) Demos
* **Speaker:**
[Philippe Bogaerts](https://www.linkedin.com/in/philippebogaerts/) (Public Cloud System Engineer and Co-Founder of BruCON)
* **Description:**
Philippe contributes mostly by writing blog posts [xxradar](https://xxradar.medium.com/), talking at meetups as well as co-organizing a renowned security conference [BruCON](https://brucon.org/). During daytime, Philippe is a solution architect at [Fortinet](https://www.fortinet.com/).
**Description:** Join us for a technical deep-dive meetup on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the emerging open standard that allows LLMs to securely interact with external tools, data, and services.
We’ll start by demystifying what MCP really is and how the client–server flow works, then dive straight into hands-on tooling and attack-surface experiments. You’ll leave you with both defensive and offensive insights into this rapidly evolving ecosystem.
What to expect:
* MCP Debunked: concise breakdown of the protocol, client ⇄ server lifecycle, transport modes and capability registration.
* Debugging with MCP Inspector: live exploration for testing, tracing and verifying MCP interactions.
* Intent Analysis: using AI to analyze tool descriptions and detect unsafe capabilities before agents can use them.
* The Capability-Delta Hack Explained: security-focused demo showing how a model can escalate or extend capabilities.
Format: 45–60 minutes of technical discussion and attack-surface experiments. All demos and experiments will be documented on GitHub.
\- 19:30 \- 19:45 \- Break
\- 19:45 \- 20:30 \- Session 2: The Golden Path: Where Governance Meets Software Craftsmanship
* **Speaker:**
[Jonathan Lamy](https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanlamy/) (Solution & Enterprise Architect at Devoteam)
* **Description:**
Jonathan is a Solution and Enterprise Architect \| Modernization Specialist who never forgot his roots in software craftsmanship\.
He now designs enterprise strategies that act as enablers, not roadblocks.
His mission is to replace chaos with confidence, allowing organizations and teams to move at true velocity.
**Description:**
In the rush to modernize, we often mistake Speed (shipping code fast) for Velocity (shipping value reliably).
We have mastered Agile and DevOps, yet many teams are still terrified to deploy on a Friday.
Jonathan argues that the solution lies not in more rules, but in engineering confidence.
In this session, we will explore The Golden Path—not as a rigid constraint, but as the blueprint for a frictionless route to production.
We will discuss how to treat the platform as a product, embedding Well-Crafted Software directly into the infrastructure.
By automating the heavy lifting of compliance and security, we stop drowning developers in configuration and empower them to steadily add value.
This isn't just about preventing chaos; it's about restoring the confidence to ship.
Format: \~40–50 minutes including demos and Q&A. Example code and links will be shared.
\- 20:30 \- 00:00 \- Network Event & Food
After (or during, we still have to decide) the talks you will be able to share your valuable insights and ideas with everyone, while sharing some food and drinks.
**Additional note: This meetup includes food. Please keep your RSVP status up to date so we do not waste any of our food. In case you're doubting the feasibility to join in person, please update your RSVP accordingly.**

\#\#\# UX TALKS
**Talk 1: Align or Fail: When Brand Meets UX**
[Mario Restrepo](https://www.linkedin.com/in/mario-restrepo/), Creative Director
Every interaction shape perception and tells a brand story, whether intended or not.
In this talk, we explore why UX is the space where brand promises are either proven or broken, and why, in the age of AI, alignment between brand and user experience has become a strategic imperative.
Drawing on real-world examples, this talk reframes UX designers as brand storytellers, and UX deciders and stakeholders as guardians of trust. It also introduces an **AI-driven Brand Sentiment Analysis workflow**, showing how teams can translate user signals into actionable insights, and design experiences that don’t just function, but reinforce how a brand is felt, remembered, and believed.
**Talk 2: The UX evolution: thriving in the age of intelligent systems**
[David Grunewald](https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidgrunewald/), Founder of Pluginto.ai , AI-Strategist
AI is fundamentally changing how UX professionals work, but it's amplifying our capabilities, not replacing them.
This 45-minute session explores what's actually happening in 2026. You'll see real implementations from banking, healthcare, and other sectors: proactive systems that anticipate needs, conversational interfaces that adapt to individual patterns, and hyper-personalisation at scale.
We'll examine **four trends reshaping UX practice and, more importantly, what they mean for your daily work**. What's being automated? What's gaining value? And what are the five essential skills that set you apart in an AI-augmented world?
You'll leave with clarity on how to evolve your practice and confidence that your human expertise remains your competitive advantage.

Workflow Automation with AI in the Construction Industry
**Workflow automation with AI in the construction industry**
***What if every incoming request in a construction company could automatically turn into the right work order... without emails, copy-paste or spreadsheets in between?***
During this **[Ixor](www.ixor.be)** TechTalk we’ll explore how AI and multi-agent systems can streamline day-to-day workflows in the construction industry.
We use a case study from **[Benogroup](https://www.benogroup.be/)** as the starting point and show how we moved from a manual flow to an AI-supported one, with support from Innoviris.
We’re combining a concrete business case with a look under the hood of the tech:
**Use case: workflow automation at Benogroup (with support from Innoviris)**
* **[Ivan De Broyer](https://be.linkedin.com/in/ivan-de-broyer/nl)** (CEO Benogroup) walks you through a very familiar scenario: an offer comes in, internal teams need a work order, and today much of that work still happens manually.
* He’ll share how they translated this pain point into an AI project, what the new AI-driven workflow looks like, and what changed for the teams in practice (increase speed, reduce errors, enable coordination and compliance).
**Architecture & learnings: multi-agent systems by Ixor**
Ixor's AI Engineer, **[Sien Nuyens](https://be.linkedin.com/in/sien-nuyens-6475b0232/en)**, explains how we built the solution using the LangGraph ecosystem.
* You’ll hear what we learned compared to earlier experiments, for example with LibreChat.
* How we decided what to automate versus what to redesign in the process itself, and why the human side (ownership, trust, handovers) is just as important as the technical one.
**This Tech Talk is ideal for:**
* Operations and project managers in construction companies who want to reduce manual follow-up
* Digital leads and innovation managers exploring where AI can safely support existing workflows
* Founders and managers of SMEs who want a concrete view on 'AI for my business'
* Anyone curious how agentic AI and multi-agent systems can be applied to real-life processes with clear before/after impact

Brussels Runners - Tuesday Intervals
We do cycles of 4-6 weeks, with a progressive load, and a recovery week at the end of the cycle.
Session:
* 10 - 20’ warm up (easy run and drills)
* Core session (ie. 6x5' - 2' recovery)
* Cool down
We run together during Warm-up, and cool down and tey to regroup during recovery time. Paces are not imposed (everyone runs at his/her own pace) given the intensity suggested.
Notes:
It's NOT required to have an activity tracker or smart watch to be able to follow the session, as I'll be giving signals with a whistle.
Intervals training is not advised for total beginners. To have an idea, the average pace at the warm up is around 5'45"/km-6'15"/km so this pace should feel very comfortable

PLUX Social Drinking & Networking - Thursday
Socializing and Networking at PLUX on Thursday. Making new friends and drinking . Everybody Welocme, locals, expats or new in town.
English Stand-Up Comedy Club Presents: James Elwa & Neil Sinclair
**One hour of top-quality stand-up comedy about fatherhood in the 21st century, modern relationships, and the quiet terror of trying to raise children while barely understanding the country you live in.**
Neil Sinclair is the only Englishman to have won the **Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s RAW Comedy Award**. He trained at the infamous **École Philippe Gaulier** and is now raising three children in France — a country whose language, customs, and bureaucracy seem designed specifically to break him. His comedy is sharp, physical, and relentlessly honest about what happens when optimism meets paperwork.
James Elwa has four children and, on any given day, likes some of them more than others. He is 40 years old. He loves his wife deeply — just not constantly. James hates motivational quotes, because however good you become at something, you still have to do the dishes next to someone that tells you they are not dried properly. His comedy is dark, warm, painfully relatable, and — despite all evidence to the contrary — disturbingly funny.
**Love is hard. Loneliness is worse. Parenting is ridiculous.**
This is stand-up for anyone who’s ever tried their best and still been told they folded the laundry incorrectly.
Venue:
Scène Brussels
Rue du Marché aux Poulets 32,
1000 Bruxelles, Belgium
Tennis doubles (NOT FOR BEGINNERS) - White Star Evere
Hello! This is a meet-up to play tennis from 2 pm to 4 pm on Sunday. Meeting is on the courts. The courts are booked under the name Jean-Marc. This event is for intermediate and advanced players and not organised for novice players or beginners.
Please make sure to bring the exact sum of 10 € in cash.
The event is non-commercial. This sum covers the cost of the courts reserved. The organizer is not there to make money out of you. Ladies are encouraged to join.
If anyone wants to drop out, they should do it on Saturday morning, not on Sunday the day of the meetup, another wise it would be too late to find a replacement in time or to cancel a court in time with reimbursement. If you don't do this, you will be asked by the organizer to reimburse your participation fee. If this happens too late then those who have cancelled after Saturday morning will have to cover the extra cost for reserving the courts. In the past meetups, it happened too many times that we were an oneven number and because of that all those present had less fun to play. If you don't show up without giving a written excuse in time, the first future participation will be cancelled and you will be asked to reimburse the participation fee. If it happens too many times you will not be able to participate anymore.
In case if we are an uneven number of players, then the last player (except the host of course who has to collect the money) can leave or persuade other players to play with him or her. Of course if the last player leaves, then he or she doesn't have to pay the participation fee. If this player leaves, he or she will be added on a future event by the host or organizer in the participation list if the player is far away in the waiting list. This is the advantage of leaving on a voluntary basis;-).
We operate on the principle of Fair Play as we do not have umpires or referees. Any disputes or disagreements over line calls or scores should be resolved immediately on the court and, when agreement is not possible, the point or game should be replayed. To be able to replay the game, 3 players need to agree on that without manipulation of the one who disputes an entire game, anotherwise injustice could occur where in the end possibly the biggest cheater could win... This situation applies also, if the host or the organizer is involved.
When one of the players still doesn't accept this compromise, then it should be reported (meetup message by preference) to the organizer or host of the meetup event.
One of the consequences could be that the first upcoming event could be cancelled by the organizer for the player who doesn't comply with the compromise to play the point or the game again. If the same player does that again for a second time, then the person will see 4 of his next tennis meetups cancelled. If this happens a third time with the same player, then the player in question will be banned from all future tennis meetups with an exclusion as a final result.
Whenever there is a big problem, it should be reported as well to the organizer of the group so he can, if necessary, take actions to improve the situation for all the players.
Please also note that if you are the first on the waiting list, you will automatically be moved up to the attendance list if someone pulls out. So if you are on the waiting list and see that you cannot attend, please also change your status to not going.
If you would like to organize a meet up either this week or next week please get in touch with me, my name is Jean-Marc. It will depend on your initiatives to create more tennis meetups per week.

***
* **Timing**

**18h15** \- Doors open
*Please take this time to order your drinks/food and settle in.*
**18h30** \- Start of the session
**Are you late?**
Please inform the event host or comment on the event page. If you arrive late and the session is already in progress, please wait on the side till the game/scene is finished. Wait for the session moderator to indicate when you can start participating.
* **Location**
We have two locations:
Monday Sessions:
The session takes place on the first floor of The Sister Cafe. Stairs next to the bar. It's the room with a curtain at the door.
Wednesday Sessions:
At Brussels Beer Poject
Rue Antoine Dansaert 188, 1000 Bruxelles
* **Participation (Attendee list)**
The session is limited to **12 attendees**. This ensures the session is manageable and everybody gets enough chances to participate.
Therefore, only the people on the "attendee list" can participate in the session.
**Waiting list**: People on the waiting list should keep an eye on the updates in case someone from the attendees' list drops and you get their spot. It's important for the people on the waiting list also to update their RSVP status if they already know they won't be joining the session.
**Do you just want to observe?** In the regular session, we do not have an audience, only participants. Please do not join the session if you do not plan to participate in the games/scenes.
If you are unsure about something, please contact the event host.
*People on the attendee list are expected to take part.*

* Please update your RSVP status in a timely manner if you can't make it to the session. This applies to people on the **attendee list AND waiting list.**
* If you are on the waiting list and know you won't be able to join in case someone from the main list drops, please update your RSVP to "not going". This will give the next person on the waiting list a chance.
* Emergencies aside, please update your RSVP status on time. Canceling at the last minute or just 1 hour before isn't helpful.
* If we see a pattern from someone not showing up after confirming or last-minute cancellations, we reserve the right to prohibit session access.
* Please write a comment if you cancel and your spot becomes available. With this, others will get an extra notification.
**Improv Session Format**
The session is held in English.
The session has three sections: Warm-up, Scene games, and Cool down.
**Warmup:** Quick group games are played to break the ice and get the creative juices flowing.
**Scenes:** Then we move on to scene games. These are mostly from short-form improv, which can include different games with various gimmicks, like story building, character work, guessing, etc
**Cool down:** One or two short group games to end the session. The rules are explained by the moderator before each game.
There is no obligation to participate in games you are uncomfortable with.
There can be feedback after a game is played. This is so we learn from each other and gain skills and insights.
**Tip**: If you are new, pay attention to the regular players when they are performing and notice small details, like how a stage is cleared before a scene, how to enter a scene, and how to collaborate with each other.
* **Who is it for?**
Anyone interested in improv! We accept participants at all levels, beginners and advanced.
This is a great place to start if you are new to improv. The basics will be explained. We only require the "Yes, and...!" spirit!
If you are an advanced player and have ideas and games to share and work on, please do let us know.
We look forward to welcoming you and doing improv!
Climb & Chill 🧗♂️☕️
What's up Friends!
Ready for some bouldering fun? Boulder-what? It’s climbing (FR: escalade, le bloc) up to 4.5m high without ropes—and in my case, without much hope! ✨
It’s a super fun indoor activity, but be warned: it does require a certain level of physical fitness and/or skill. Most importantly, though, it requires awesome company—which we’ve got!
The Idea:
Meeting Point: For those arriving at 17:00, we’ll meet at the cafeteria (next to the billiards table).
Feel free to start earlier or later—just drop me a message or write in the group chat so we can meet up.
Stay & climb as long as you want - venue closes at midnight!
Recharge: If you’ve had enough climbing for the day (we usually do this after 2 hours of climbing), we may head back to the cafeteria (or to the rooftop if it's sunny️) for snacks, drinks & games. Cafeteria closes at 22:00.

*Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit: From Intent to Implementation*
Spec-driven development flips the traditional workflow on its head: instead of code being the source of truth, the specification becomes the backbone of design, collaboration, and delivery. In this session, we’ll explore how GitHub Spec-Kit enables teams to treat specifications as first-class artifacts—living documents that drive architecture, implementation, and verification.
You’ll learn how Spec-Kit helps teams clearly express intent using structured, version-controlled specs that live alongside code. We’ll walk through a practical workflow that starts with defining system behavior and constraints, then progressively refines those specs into testable, automatable outcomes. Along the way, we’ll show how specs can reduce ambiguity, improve cross-functional collaboration, and make design decisions explicit before a single line of production code is written.
This talk will cover:
--What spec-driven development is (and what it isn’t)
--How GitHub Spec-Kit fits into modern developer workflows
--Using specs to align product, engineering, and AI-assisted development
--Real-world examples of turning specs into implementations with confidence
Whether you’re building greenfield systems, integrating AI into your stack, or trying to reduce costly rework, spec-driven development offers a scalable way to move faster without sacrificing clarity. Attendees will leave with concrete patterns and a clear mental model for adopting GitHub Spec-Kit in their own projects.

For this event, we’ll help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents, wash dishes and clean surfaces at Fath Mission – Grant Kitchen. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:

With very few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve.
THANK YOU: This CMG Gives Back event provides an opportunity for YOU to get involved in helping others! Benefits go well beyond the help we give to others. Volunteering provides a wide range of personal benefits, including positive effects on mental and physical health, reduced stress/depression/anxiety, increased happiness and improved purpose, life-satisfaction and personal well-being! Plus, the opportunity to get involved, connect with others and help those in need.
