IELTS for LUNCH in the New Year offers more!
Happy 2026 to you all!
Did you know on any given IELTS test, 75% of the candidates will fail to reach a score of 6?
This is a shout-out to international residents seeking steady, reliable and professional preparation for the IELTS test at no charge, whether General or Academic. This is not for last-minute, panicking candidates, but for people who intend to build their success. A class will take place online twice a week on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, delivered by a very experienced former IELTS examiner. One weekly class will be at lunch time (IELTS for Lunch) at EST, the other on an evening (Pop-Up IELTS) that will change week to week. Members will get a notification at least 24 hours in advance.
Job aids containing notes from the class are available. If you wish to actually practice and get feedback, you may choose from two packages. Writing and speaking private sessions and feedback programs are delivered live through Lolart Academy, or online via Zoom. Full access to our Gaming the IELTS website with speaking and writing exercises and games are included. Ask for details in class.
**A LIST of the STRATEGY LESSONS**
1. **IELTS Myths - Presentation and Q&A.** Many people believe things that are untrue about the IELTS test. Let's set the record straight!
2. **The Writing Tests** **–** **How They Are Scored.** You may be surprised by the traps that crash your score and the rules that govern what counts!
3. **The Speaking Test - How Each Part Is Scored.** Find out why the speaking test is has three parts (Hint: they are looking for different things). Take control and give the examiner what he or she values.
4. **Paraphrasing - Four Methods.** There are four main methods of paraphrasing, so there is no excuse for getting stuck. This lesson and job aid are useful for Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking.
5. **Nature of the Question - Decode Oral Questions.** As far as we know, no other course teaches the four types of speaking questions that repeat with regularity and have specific test missions.
6. **Analyzing a Task 2 Essay Question: Decode Written Questions.** Coherence and Cohesion plus Task Response are two writing sub-scores that make up half of your writing score. See beyond grammar and vocabulary to raise your score and your confidence in ways too many IELTS courses neglect.
7. **Observing & Imaging - Content Gathering for Essays.** So many scores are low due to sheer ignorance of issues. Let me show you that you know more than you think you know in one of my most popular classes.
8. **Sentence Variety - More is More!** If you think an essay full of long, complex sentences guarantees a high score, you could not be more wriong!
9. **Syntax Games and Our Online Self-Study Resource**: an introduction to how the Gaming the IELTS website works for you.
10. **Verb Tenses for the IELTS Speaking Test.** How to generate legitimate perfect tenses for a high grammar score.
11. **Task 1 Academic – General.** Some models for your use.
12. **Task 1 Academic – Do the Math.** Did you know Part 1 Academic Writing is 30% of your whole writing score? Almost no one does a good job on this! Learn the fundamentals to the math-based Part 1 Writing questions.
13. **Task 1 Academic – Pie Charts & Bar Graphs.** Unlock 150 word, top-score responses.

Are you Smarter than a Scottish Guy Trivia - One Eyed Jack's Richmond Street
We are following our favourite trivia host, Simon from Are You Smarter than a Scottish Guy, to one of his other weekly locations: One-Eyed Jack's at 287 Richmond Road (between John and Peter Streets). The beer selection at this location is quite minimal but their food menu is good - https://www.oneeyedjackpub.com/torontomenu. They have a $0.95 wing special with lots of flavours.
The trivia starts at 7:00pm with first question at 7:15 pm. We have a pair of tables (12 people) reserved under Steve so far. Serious RSVPs only as no-shows prevent us from fielding a complete team.
Top prizes is a gift certificate for the next visit. Other prizes are a free round for the table and nachos. There is also a small prize for best team name, so put on your creative hat; the host seems to like puns and prefers short team names.
Let's have some fun, eat some wings, and hopefully win!

Toronto Business Builders (No-Fluff Growth Community)
Business Builders is a Toronto-based, in-person community for **professionals**, **founders**, and **entrepreneurs** who are building—or preparing to build—meaningful businesses.
This is **not** a pitch room.
This is **not** a motivational talk club.
This is a **builder room**.
We meet monthly to focus on **practical growth**, share real experiences, solve real business problems, and help each other move forward—together.
Each session is built around one core theme that matters right now, such as:
* Scaling systems and teams
* Improving cash flow and financial clarity
* Marketing and lead generation that actually converts
* Hiring, delegation, and company culture
* AI and automation in real-world businesses
* Preventing burnout while maintaining momentum
If you’re tired of surface-level networking events and want conversations that actually move your business forward, you’ll feel at home here.

You’ll fit right in if you are:
* A business owner or founder
* An entrepreneur or independent professional
* Running (or growing toward) a real business
* Focused on revenue, systems, and long-term sustainability
* Looking for meaningful conversations—not business card swaps

* Honest conversations about what’s working and what isn’t
* Practical frameworks you can apply immediately
* Accountability and momentum between sessions
* A trusted circle of peers who understand the challenges of ownership
**What We Do at Each Meetup**

**Each meetup includes:**
* **Practical Learning**
Short, focused insights from an experienced guest or facilitator.
* **Real Conversations**
Members share wins, challenges, and what they’re currently working through.

Learn How to Build a Multi-Handed Income Business
Most people depend on only one income. If that income stops, everything becomes stressful.
This session is for anyone who wants to learn how to build more than one income source in a simple and practical way.
In this event, you will learn:
* What a multi-handed income business means (in simple words)
* Why having multiple handed income is important today
* Learn Types of income: active, leveraged, and passive
* How people start building extra income step by step
* Common mistakes to avoid when starting

Practical Philosophy Meetup - Toronto 🇨🇦
**NO PHILOSOPHY EXPERTISE REQUIRED!**
**🏛️ WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?**
Practical Philosophy is a weekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an opportunity to dive deep on a topic, practice communicating, and building a community. All with no ‘official’ philosophy knowledge required! 😎
Practical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessible to all, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we choose a topic, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our critical thinking and communication as we explore that topic.
The goal is to help develop our Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community 🙌
**📓 HOW DOES IT WORK?**
Each week, we pick one topic and discuss it. The topic for the week is shared, generally in the [Whatsapp group](https://chat.whatsapp.com/KRy6VgwgGRm3hSGeYlAzDE), along with jump-off points to get the conversation going.
When groups get bigger than 7-8 people, it’s important that we break into smaller groups. This way we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our meetups feel like a discourse or lecture.
**General Meeting Agenda**
Each Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline:
* 19:30-19:45 - People arrive and chat, get to know each other before the official start.
* 19:45-19:55 - Meeting introduction, explanation of Practical Philosophy and the topic for the week, read the guidelines and the overview so attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines.
* 19:55-21:15 - Break into small groups - introduce yourselves and general thoughts on the topic, open discussion afterwards. At this point the group can review the ‘jump-off’ questions as needed, but they are just there to help guide the conversation. It’s not obligatory to answer them.
* 21:15-21:30 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusions of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. Organizer concludes the meeting and everyone takes a group photo.
* 21:30 - The official meeting is over but it’s a great opportunity to get to know people in a non-structured environment, so we often stick around, chat, and get to know each other.
**🧧PRICING?**
Practical Philosophy Club is FREE to attend! We just ask that if we are meeting in a café, buy a beverage! Some chapters rent a space for us to meet, and they may ask for donations to help contribute to the cost of rent. Donations will always be 100% voluntary though!
**💛 WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY**
**🗣** “I feel like Philosophy Club helps someone build their own belief system through a series of perspectives while not promoting what’s right and wrong” - Ekam
🗣 “I got hooked from day 1 and felt it was the right place for me. I feel it is a place where people can go to learn and discuss new perspectives and increase critical thinking and community by interacting with people who might challenge your point of views but at the same time encourage you to have openness and mind flexibility.” - Daniel
**🤓 FAQ**
* **What will we talk about? What's the topic?**
The topic for the week is shared every Sunday in the Whatsapp group. We try to add the topic to the comment section on this event page as well but if you don’t see it, the topic and the jump-off points will be in our [Whatsapp](https://chat.whatsapp.com/KRy6VgwgGRm3hSGeYlAzDE).
* **Do I need to study or read anything to attend?**
No preparation is necessary. This isn’t a study of other thinkers. We want to know what you think about the topic, not what an old philosopher thought. If you have a perspective from a religion or a school of thought to share, throw it on the table and we’ll discuss it.
* **Is there a specific philosophy that Practical Philosophy is focused on?**
The goal of our meet-ups is to not have dogmatic discussions, and flex our critical thinking muscles. Because of this, we want to hear from every realm of thought, and don't study a particular school.
* **Is it mostly men that attend?**
Surprisingly, no! Although often, philosophy is seen as a Candelabra affair in a dark room with a bunch of guys, our Practical Philosophy meetups are generally 50/50 between genders, and we don’t meet in any dark rooms.
* **Can I come alone?**
Of course you can, we encourage it :)
* **Can I be late?**
Please don't be! We do have a 15 minute grace period where we allow people to funnel in while we hang out, but after that if you arrive too late, it disrupts the flow of the conversation.
* **Where do you meet?**
The location is posted in Meetup and our [Whatsapp](https://chat.whatsapp.com/KRy6VgwgGRm3hSGeYlAzDE) group for this location. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you join the Whatsapp group! If you want to know what other cities have a Practical Philosophy Club, you can see our chapters on our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/practical-philosophy-locations/).
**PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY CLUB - Philosophy, everywhere. ✨**
We started in Practical Philosophy back in 2021 and there are now 30+ chapters in over 18 countries, including Canada, Spain, Japan, Mexico and many more! 🗺️

Curating Confidence: Crafting Your Vision for the Year Ahead
Step into 2026 with intention, clarity, and a creative practice designed to help you see yourself more clearly. In this special Confidence Lab session, we’ll explore confidence as something you can curate - through the choices you make, the qualities you amplify, and the story you choose to step into.
We’ll start with a short guided reflection to surface the traits, habits, and energies you want to nurture in the coming year. Then, using collage materials selected specifically for this workshop, you’ll translate those insights into a visual composition that represents the version of yourself you’re ready to grow toward.
This isn’t about resolutions or perfection. It’s about crafting a grounded, imaginative vision of your next chapter - one that feels honest, energizing, and fully yours.
All materials are provided. Just bring yourself (and a friend) and a willingness to explore what confidence can look like for you in 2026.
**Featured Partner: Columbus Collage Collective**
The Columbus Collage Collective was started in August of 2023 by Emily Morgan (aka Lovely But Dead) and Douglas Cuckler (aka Wonder Doug) as a place for collage enthusiasts to gather and create art together. The collective has since become a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to hold free or low-cost collage events across central Ohio. The CCC welcomes all artists of all backgrounds and skill levels and encourages folks to take this time to step away from everyday existence and create art with people who share a love for this dynamic art form.
All materials—magazines, scissors, craft knives, glue, paper, cardboard, and more—are provided, so there's no need to bring anything at all (though you're welcome to bring a friend or a favorite tool if you'd like!). We also encourage folks to take home magazines and materials from our events to support continued creativity!

Our work demands clarity, courage, and conviction—but the pace of daily life can erode our sense of self. Confidence Lab creates space to reflect, reconnect, and grow with others doing purpose-driven work.
It’s designed for entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, creatives, corporate professionals, activists, and anyone ready to lead with authenticity and impact.
