Roy Thomson Hall: National Arts Centre Orchestra’s Eroica (Beethoven) 15% off
Led by the vibrant Alexander Shelley, our visiting friends from the National Arts Centre Orchestra promise an unforgettable evening!!
https://nac-cna.ca/en/orchestra
Experience the brilliance of Jean-Yves Thibaudet in Saint-Saëns’s sparkling “Egyptian” Concerto, paired with **Beethoven’s groundbreaking “Eroica” Symphony,** a stirring testament to resilience and the human spirit.
One of Beethoven's most celebrated works, the ***Eroica*** (Heroic) symphony is a large-scale composition that marked the beginning of the composer's innovative "middle period. Composed in 1803....the dawn of the Romantic era.
Beethoven’s music is characterized by large dynamic spans, from barely audible to dead-rousing, mirroring the full spectrum of the human experience—joy, sorrow, triumph, and despair. It is introspective and complex, yet accessible, and has remained a staple of concert halls across the globe for centuries. During the 2025/26 season, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra will present **six of Beethoven’s symphonies**, spread across orchestras and venues.

Indie Rock + Late-Night Hangs | Small Group, Queen West
**A new format: you choose who you're interested in meeting**
This meetup is about getting to know new people and sharing the experience in a small group (4-6 people).
*We use the LYTT platform to handle group size and balance - so you're not just hoping someone interesting shows up.* To apply you will need to create an account at [lytt.me](https://lytt.me/meetup/indie-rock-horseshoe) \- it's free\.
**The event: Live Indie Rock at The Horseshoe Tavern**
The Horseshoe Tavern has been the launching pad for Canadian rock since 1947. The Rolling Stones kicked off their '97 world tour here. Blue Rodeo ran their record label from the basement. The Tragically Hip wrote about the checkerboard floors. This is where legends are made - and where you'll catch tomorrow's headliners tonight.
Weekend showcases bring 2-4 indie rock bands through the intimate 300-person venue. Close to the stage, loud enough to feel it, small enough that every band treats it like their shot. The energy is electric, the sound system iconic, and your crew gets table seating to claim home base between sets. The whole experience runs about 3.5 hours.

Contra dance with Big Scioty on Feb. 7 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Dan Kappus**
**Band: Trillium**
**Big Scioty Contra Dance**
**temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/)
Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Snacks to share are always welcome!
Fun Friday: EPiC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT at Lennox Phoenix Theater!
Join us for something different as we get together to see EPIC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT! While researching his 2022 film, director Bas Luhrmann came across and compiled rare and previously unseen interviews and videos of Elvis in concert to create “one of the most exciting concert films you’ve ever seen!” Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: Part documentary, part concert film, the latest from director Bas Luhrmann is a follow-up to his 2022 film starring Austin Butler. While researching the film, he came across 68 boxes of previously unseen interviews, concert performances and outtakes from previous films. A combination of offstage and onstage Elvis, comes a film that “befits the magnitude of Elvis as a performer but also offers deeper revelations of his humanity and inner life." It is written/directed by Baz Luhrmann (ELVIS, MOULIN ROUGE, THE GREAT GATSBY) and stars the legendary Elvis Presley!
TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmqWusmzp0k
BUZZ AND ACCLAIM: The film screened at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival where it was the runner up in the category People’s Choice Award for Documentaries. Next Best Picture says, “Certain to energize longtime fans and generate new ones for generations to come, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is a masterwork of montage.” And according to the NY Post, whether you have a room in the house devoted to Elvis or not, this truly “Epic” concert film is an energizing experience!”
PLAN: We’ll plan for a pre-show bite at nearby BRAVO around 5 or 5:30pm followed by a 7pm-ish showing on one of their larger screens. Once showtime is announced, advance ticket purchase is advised. Please list your seat number in the Comments below. Exact showtime and meeting details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.
Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
