#114 Friday Beer Bay Gathering @ Pier 4
Come for another casual gathering and chat with peers in the software & technology community. Bring your smile and relax with a refreshing drink.
**Concept** 🍻
It works simple:
1. feel free to arrive and leave at any time during the event
2. get yourself a drink at the bar or convenience store
3. say hi to someone in the group and chat away.
**How to find us?** 👀
Bart/Stephen usually wear something that is easy to spot in a crowd. Often it's a bright coloured t-shirt or something orange themed. Have a look at past photos of meetups to recognise him. Moreover, we usually stand close to the bar.
**Venue** 📍
**The Beer Bay** is an **outdoor kiosk/bar**, situated at the walkway between the Central Ferry Piers, at the ground level **entrance of Central Ferry Pier #4** (to Lamma Island). There's plenty of space to stand, and various places to get drinks. Usually lots of people in conversation, and an overall casual and relaxed atmosphere. In summer it can get hot and sweaty, and winter a bit cold, but drinks are refreshing and nothing beats that skyline!
**Toilets** 🚻
There is a public toilet at the end of the piers near pier 2, or you could walk to the IFC shopping mall nearby.
**Drinks** 🍺🍷🍹🥤
The Beer Bay serves refreshing alcoholic drinks, such as cold drafts, wine and plenty of mixers too. There are also non-alcoholic options from other stands and convenience stores around as well.
See you on Friday May 8!

the Central Market's historical significance makes it an attractive venue for hosting various types of events that can celebrate Hong Kong's rich heritage and cultural identity. Please grab a dink and enjoy!

This Saturday evening, come hang out and chat with a few friends at a café.
For those aged **20–30**, it might be a time of uncertainty—or a time full of opportunities. Instead of trying to figure things out alone, let’s talk with people our age—about **industries, majors, career planning**, and about where you might want to go next.
No formalities: if you find it useful, feel free to stay longer. If you have something to do, you can leave anytime.
### What can we talk about?
You can discuss anything related to career and personal growth, for example:
- Does what you’re doing right now have a future?
- If you want to switch careers, where would you go?
- What are your next steps?
- Are there like-minded strangers you’d like to meet and connect with?
- Or you can simply chat casually / sit and listen—totally fine too.
(Graduates, people currently looking for jobs, early-career folks, those considering a career switch, AI practitioners, designers, entrepreneurs, Hong Kong “newcomers” and students thinking about staying in Hong Kong—everyone is welcome.)
### Who is it for?
- Ages **20–30**: final-year students / fresh graduates still searching for jobs, and young professionals just getting started
- Friends who are considering switching careers
- Anyone who wants to learn something new, relax, or try something different
If you’re between **20 and 30**, you’re welcome to come sit in.
### Time
**May 8 (Saturday) at 7:30 PM**
### Location
**Provided after you sign up**
### Cost
**Free** (but please cover your own meal expenses)

BYOBook: non-fiction books presentations and discussion
This is a regular Bring-Your-Own-Book session, where participants share and present to the group non-fiction books they have read.
New members are welcome to attend to listen to and discuss the presentations of others.
Usually a meeting takes around 2.5-3 hours. During this time we discuss 2 different books, roughly 1 hour per book.
Any non-fiction material: a book, documentary, or lecture or a part of it - anything with a title and an author and that contains some coherent ideas. Each presentation includes a summary of a book (15-40 min) and discussion (accordingly).
The meeting will be either in a park or in a coffee shop, on HK side. The exact place to be confirmed with the attendees **by WhatsApp only**. I will / have sent the link to the WhatsApp group, please use the link.
Introvert friendly.
We have people from different countries, so while books can be in any language, the language of the meeting is English.
There is a fee of 20 HKD for the first timers to help funding the Meetup membership needed to run the group.
Do not hit "Attend" if you are not going to attend.
If you RSVPed, but there is anything preventing you from going to the meeting, remember to tell the host as soon as possible and/or update the RSVP - before the RSVP is closed, to give other people a chance to take your spot.
But if you plan to attend, do hit "Attend", please :)))
No-shows are all silently noted with much disapproval and will be removed from the group.

Human Connections: Model Strangers (3 Strangers, 9 Portraits)
Hello all.
Please have a look at the links below to see how this Instagram Sensation and celebrated photographer captures impressive portraits and touching human stories of strangers on the street.
Firstly, for instance, have a look at the story of the woman whose picture is used in this event:
Here are some more links on the photographer and the theme:
In this outing we would follow the portrait street photography project of famous photographer, Christopher Ward, who has been taking some interesting portraits and documenting some very interesting stories of the strangers on the street.
We would work in groups of two members in this outing, and approach strangers who have some fashionable, unique or characteristic features and personalities. We would talk to them and note down some interesting facts, perspectives and stories about them in the photo captions.
**Meeting Time and Place:**
**3.30pm** at **The Fountain, Victoria Park**
We will meet at The Fountain, Victoria Park Gloucester Road entrance (Victoria Park’s Fountain is less than three minutes’ walk from the Causeway Bay MTR Exit E, to the left), then walk in groups of two members around the Causeway Bay area taking pictures and then re-group 5pm at (café/bar yet to be deiced) for photo sharing and socialising over a drink.
Please post three portraits of each of the three strangers with their stories or interesting facts on this event’s album after the outing is over.
**IMPORTANT:**
Please sign up only if you are coming, those not showing up 2x in a row would be taken off the group list while active members would be given a preference over long inactive members, the last minute habitual dropouts and no-shows.
**FINALLY:** For every image you post, please comment on at least one other image, no matter if you think you are qualified to comment or not. You can always give some constructive comments with regard to Colour, Tone, Light, Action, Pattern, Balance, Composition, Visual and Emotional appeal of the image/s. Data & Analytics Wednesday - Mapping and Dashboards
**Total Eclipse of the Chart: School Redistricting Dashboards**
In this presentation, we will explore the utilization of maps, sets, and SQL within a Tableau dashboard to help provide “what-if” analyses generated through the use of a mapped dashboard, providing different scenarios and the potential implications of these.
While in this use case we are focused on a large school district, the concepts of utilizing existing data to explore the future impacts of modifying different geographic boundaries can be useful to many industries, balancing the mix of maps with visual analytics.
