Mercè Rodoreda Book Club Series: Session 5 — Final Discussion
Mercè Rodoreda Book Club Series: Session 5 — Final Discussion
As part of our **Mercè Rodoreda Book Club Series (January–May)**, we invite you to join us for a special **closing session** dedicated to *Journeys and Flowers* (*Viatges i flors*) and to celebrating the reading journey we have shared over the past months. Originally, this final session was due to feature translator **Nick Caistor**, who unfortunately can no longer join us due to a scheduled medical operation. We send him our warmest wishes for a smooth recovery. Rather than cancel our final gathering, we wanted to embrace the spirit that has made this series so meaningful: readers coming together in conversation. This session will take on a more open **book club format**, where all attendees are warmly invited to participate, reflect, and share. Together we will discuss: 🌿 *Journeys and Flowers* — one of Rodoreda’s most imaginative and singular works 🌿 Favourite books and moments from the series 🌿 How reading Rodoreda in community has shaped the experience 🌿 The legacy and literary world of one of Catalonia’s most beloved writers Whether you joined us for one session or many, we would love to welcome you for this final conversation.

Backstory Talk: Luke Goebel in conversation with Josh Denslow
Backstory Talk: Luke Goebel in conversation with Josh Denslow
American novelist and screenwriter Luke Goebel will be visiting Barcelona to talk with us about his new novel KILL DICK. He will be in conversation with author Josh Denslow. Dark, satirical, and razor-sharp, Kill Dick is a modern literary thriller that unflinchingly dissects wealth, exploitation, and the perilous line between survival and self-destruction. “An insane portrait of L.A. in the vein of Easton Ellis and Didion… you never want to look away.” —Sophia June, Playboy “Captures the burning zeitgeist of our times.” —Kimberly King Parsons "A Lynch- and Kubrick-inspired portrait of Los Angeles.” —Kirkus Reviews ## About the speakers: **Luke Goebel** is an acclaimed author and screenwriter celebrated for his unflinching honesty and innovative storytelling. A recipient of the prestigious Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Prize and the Joan Scott Memorial Fiction Award, his debut novel, Fourteen Stories, None of Them Are Yours, garnered critical acclaim for its innovative and precisely lyrical, profoundly resonant exploration of love, grief, and the restless search for identity. Goebel also co-wrote Eileen, starring Anne Hathaway and McKenzie Thompson, and Causeway, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry (who received an Oscar nomination for his performance). He is known as well as his role as co-editor at The New York Tyrant and work with Tyrant Books. **Josh Denslow** is the author of three books, including most recently Magic Can't Save Us. His most recent short stories have appeared in Electric Literature's The Commuter, The Rumpus, and Okay Donkey, among others. He is the Email Marketing Manager for [Bookshop.org](http://bookshop.org/), and he has read and edited for SmokeLong Quarterly for over a decade. He currently lives in Barcelona with his family.

Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times. Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have. Happy writing!
