🎆❄️ New Year’s Day Walk: Toronto Island!
🎆❄️ **New Year’s Day Walk: Toronto Island**
**Walk off the hangover. Start fresh. Do something different.**
Let’s be real — January 1st can go one of two ways:
You stay on the couch all day… **or** you step outside, breathe in fresh air, move your body, and actually start the year feeling good.
Join us for a **New Year’s Day walk on Toronto Island** — the perfect way to **reset after the night before**, try something new, and maybe even make a few new friends while you’re at it. Yes, I will be hungover. That’s why we’re starting at **1:15 PM** 😏🍾

Whether you’re setting healthy intentions, shaking off the fog, or just refusing to let January win — this walk is for you.
“There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.”
So layer up, grab your warmest coat, and let’s make **January 1st** a *choice*, not a write-off ❄️💪
Miss this and your New Year officially starts on January 2nd. Just saying.

Well it's New Year's once again, 2026, and it's time to party.
Let's restart the process and head into the sun. It will be a great year I'm sure. Well in theory anyway. Let's make 2026 shine.
Over the years, Toronto has played host to some of the most famous nightclubs in the world. Nightclubs that not only invited the world's celebrities to party, but also created an exciting city that loved to boogie into the early morning. These nightclubs and dance halls turned the city of the Sunday Blue Laws into one of the world's party towns. And historically some of them are still around, but in a very different setting. Come along on a voyage of discovery as we look back at thirty of the iconic nightclubs in the downtown core.
And take a trip down memory lane to the spots we all know and love. I remember two clubs from my youth, one was the iconic RPM on the lakeshore and Sparkles at the CN Tower. Do I have stories to tell about these two? Oh yeah, do I! Just don't hold it against me! Hope to see you on this walk, and Happy New Year, 2026.
This walking tour is for all fitness levels and skills. Please dress for the weather.
This walking tour begins at the Toronto Reference Library on Yonge Street just north of Bloor Street. We end at the King Edward Hotel on King Street East!
And hope to see you there!
This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person!

Drumming Circle & Uplifting Discussion 🪘✨🌍
**NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED**
**About Drum & Soul**
The only intention behind Drum & Soul is to help create vibrant, healthier, and more united communities – together. We believe art is the best channel for that purpose. This is more than a drumming circle. It is a practical space where we do two things at once: we develop useful skills and cultivate inner qualities, and we help others grow those same qualities. Through rhythms from many cultures, collective singing and meaningful conversation around a focused theme, we practise skills that strengthen both the individual and the community.
**Why come**
If you want to expand your expressive capacity, practise listening with depth, learning to lead or join others who take community wellbeing to heart, Drum & Soul is for you. This is a place to try courageously, to learn deeply, and to contribute authentically. Everyone is welcome regardless of background or musical experience. If you feel shy in groups, that is completely natural and we got you. A few of us will gently hover around newcomers like butterflies, offering a warm welcome and quiet space so nobody feels out of place. Many people tell us they arrived nervous but soon felt as if they had stepped into a family home.
**How it works**
At the start of each session we centre with a short breathing exercise, followed by a demonstration of simple rhythms, then break into small groups for guided conversation. Finally we move into collective jamming and improvisation. We finish by socializing and sharing a potluck meal and continuing our conversation and connection as a human family.
**Typical meeting flow**
1. 🫱🏽🫲🏻 Arrival & social time – 20 min
2. 🙋🏻♀️ Welcome, check in and centring – 10 min
3. 🪘 Call & Respond **Drumming & demo** – 10 min
4. 💬 Facilitated **Discussion** on the Theme (groups of three) – 20 min
5. ☕ Potluck **dinner** – 40 min
6. 🕺🏽 Open **Jamming** with multiple instruments – 20 min
7. 🦋 **Tear down** and social time afterwards ...
*This outline is flexible and may shift to suit the group and the space.*
**Logistics and what to bring**
We meet in a large beautiful space. Drums are available on a first come first served basis. We also provide plenty of small percussion instruments so every hand can play. You are welcome to bring your own drum or instrument. After our time of drumming and dialogue, we share a simple potluck dinner, an extension of our circle where conversation continue to flourish over nourishing food. Feel free to bring whatever you love to share.
**Cost and contributions**
This is a free event. As a community we are encouraged to contribute even a small snack to share with everyone, or pay what or if you can, to cover the costs of refreshments and material, by E-transfer to: **hooshmandnyc@gmail.com** – Contributions are optional.
**Helpful notes**
No prep needed. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Please arrive by then so we can start at 4:00 p.m. sharp and keep the flow. Location and any last minute updates are posted on Meetup and in our WhatsApp group. We recommend joining the WhatsApp group (ask us for the link) for quick notices.
**Why this matters**
In a world aching for healing, we believe our sacred mission is to nurture one another, define our roles in service to our fellow humans, and become living temples of unity. Growth unfolds through both self‑discovery and collective effort, and one cannot truly flourish without the other. Come open and prepared to learn, to offer your gifts, and to be strengthened by the power of community.

Advanced Speakers on the Hill Toastmasters - In Person Meetings!!!!
**Advanced Speakers on the Hill (ASotH)** is proud to be a ***premier club*** operating in the best Toastmasters tradition of providing a supportive and positive program that empowers its members to achieve greater self-confidence and personal growth.
**To become a better communicator and leader,** you need warm and supportive people to help you along your way. This is where ASotH excels because we’re a club packed with committed and experienced Toastmasters.
**One way in which we help each other to grow is by means of thorough speech evaluations.** In most Toastmasters clubs, each speech receives a 2-3 minute evaluation – end of story. Here your speech will be evaluated for fifteen minutes, which includes input and discussion from among *all* the members present. Imagine how much you can benefit, even when you are not the speech maker. You will hear a detailed evaluation and listen to what other members think. You will then have the opportunity to add your thoughts to the evaluation circle. And, since the speaker’s prime evaluator is also evaluated, you will learn how to improve your own evaluations. All this occurs in a typically supportive and fun atmosphere.
**ASotH Club meetings are held on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Saturdays of each month.** Visitors are most welcome, so drop by and experience the **ASotH advantage** first-hand!
***Our meetings are now in-person at Bayview Hill Community Center. Details can be found [here](https://advancedspeakersonthehill.toastmastersclubs.org/directions.html).***
**Membership Eligibility:** You must have completed Level 2 in Pathways, or the first ten speeches in the Toastmasters Competent Communication Legacy manual in order to join our advanced club.
Hope to see you soon!
IN-PERSON Saturday Meeting!
Join us for our in-person Saturday critique session! We'll be meeting in the basement of **The Blake House**, which is located near Wellesley and Jarvis, about a 10-minute walk from Wellesley Station or Sherbourne Station.
**In respect to the Blake House for hosting us, we humbly request that attendees purchase a meal, dessert, or drink if you are able to do so.**
Feel free to bring in a piece of writing up to **2000 words** for reading and critique. Please bring paper copies so that listeners can easily follow and make notes. Dedicated listeners are equally welcome. In larger groups, please be mindful of giving everyone a fair chance to speak.
Our group values and meeting structure can be found here:

Freestyle + 3rd Annual Great Chili Cook Off
**3rd Annual Great Chili Cook Off**: Calling All Cooks! This is your shot at dethroning our 2-time repeat Chili Champion and claim the 1st place Chef's Cap and Apron for yourself. Second and Third place winners will also receive a cap and apron.
This is often one of our more well-attended events so please RSVP early and come hungry.
Members will be given a ticket to vote for their favorite chili. No campaigning this year please. Let the chili speak for itself (no, not like that. I know what you are thinking. Stop that.)
**On Freestyle night** \- just bring a bottle to share\. There is NO formal wine tasting like on other weeks\. Door charge is $10 \(cash or Venmo only please\)\. We may have some left over wines to clear out\! Glasses are provided\. Take Care\. See you there\.
**Parking**: There are several public parking lots near the Alive614 hall. Please be careful to NOT park in private parking lots. They do tow. Check Google maps to scope out your space. Anyone who is early could easily find a parking space on the street nearby. I am told that the Chase parking lot is safe after hours.
**Glasses**: …will be provided. Please note that after the wine tasting, the EMPTY glasses need to be returned to the boxes at the service table. Please do not make me hunt down your empty glass. Please be gentle, our glasses are fragile. Uh, they are made of glass!
**Food**: You are welcome to bring a snack to share. It is not required. Most people do though. If no one brings anything, there will be nothing.
**Code of Conduct**: Though mostly understood, it’s still worth mentioning. We don’t have rules per se, but we highly discourage the following topics of discussion because they are likely to incite anti-social responses - Sex, Politics, Religion. Please don’t mistake this as an attempt to limit your free speech rights but rather a guide to a place and time for appropriate discussions.
**After the lights go out**: After the last sip of wine, when we clean up and turn the lights out, if you still haven’t had enough of us, it is typical for a group to get together and go to a local eatery for food and/or drinks or coffee.
Again, We look forward to meeting new members and reuniting with old friends.
Sincerely, ***Paul Uttermohlen***,
**Red 1 Realty**
