River Liffey, Chapelizod & Phoenix Park walk
This coming Sunday (18th January) we're having another walk - along the banks of the River Liffey to Chapelizod and back through Phoenix Park.
From the meeting point we will walk to the nearby gardens of the Royal Hospital at Kilmainham and then to the War Memorial Park. On leaving the park we shall continue along the river (where rowers are often seen practising their sport) to the lovely village of Chapelizod. We shall make a short detour to Chapelizod island, to see the weir which belonged to an old flax mill. We shall then enter Phoenix Park and climb a small hill to the 4,000 year old Knockmaree Dolmen before passing the Wellington Monument on our return to Heuston Station.
If it's dry and warm enough, we'll probably have a picnic in the War Memorial Park or in Phoenix Park, so bring some food and drink if you wish. There's a Spar shop in Chapelizod.
In Phoenix Park, we have a good chance of seeing deer. Please remember that these lovely animals are still wild animals and can attack when they feel threatened especially when they have young deer. Signs in the park indicate that it's prohibited to feed the deer and recommend to stay at least 50 metres away from them.
[Date] 18th January (SUNDAY)
[Time] 12:00 \~ 16:00
[Place] Outside Heuston Station in front of the entrance to the Galway Hooker bar.
If you're taking the Luas then please make sure you get the Red Line. The meeting point can easily be seen from Heuston Luas stop.
We hope to see you there!

FAQs
1. Is there a charge for this event? No, this is a free event. Sometimes we have events that involve a visit to a museum or garden with an entrance fee - but this will be clearly marked in the details
2. Is it OK for people on a short visit to Ireland to join this walk? Yes both visitors and residents alike are welcome to join our walks.
3. How easy/difficult is this walk? Most walking groups would classify this as an easy walk. That said, we will be walking for a few hours (at a fairly leisurely pace) so having a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
4. Why are there only a limited number of places for this event? To ensure the best possible experience for the people attending it is necessary to limit the numbers, especially as the chosen route may not be straightforward and along narrow paths.
5. Why is it necessary to book on this event if you wish to attend? This is because there are only a limited number of spaces (see point above) and to ensure the fairest allocation of spaces, we kindly request everyone to book a place. It's OK to change your mind about coming but please change your RSVP as soon as you have for someone else to take the place if they wish to.
PLEASE NOTE: Walking like many outdoor activities carries an element of risk. People who take part in our meet up activities do so at their own risk and are responsible for their own actions and involvement. If you register to join our meet up walks you agree that you wish to take part in the activities despite these risks.
Please wear boots, shoes or runners that you find comfortable, provide suitable support and have good grip as some of the paths may be uneven or steep. It is also recommended to bring water to avoid dehydration. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of inclement weather.

January Repair Cafe
Bring your broken tech and trinkets to get them fixed by the skilled volunteers at TOG Hackerspace – with a bit of help from our friends at Dublin Maker!
On **Sunday, 18 January 2026**, between **12 pm and 4 pm**, TOG Hackerspace will host the first Repair Cafe of the new year in our own space. At this event, volunteers will share their expertise and passion for repair, helping you fix your broken items and breathe new life into them. Whether it’s a malfunctioning gadget, a piece of clothing in need of mending, or a household item that’s seen better days, bring it along and let the team work their magic.
### What can you bring in?
* Clothes and accessories
* Toys
* Small electrical appliances and electronics
* Small furniture
… and many other things!
Safety testing (PAT) for electrical devices will be available.
### What happens at a repair cafe?
At the Repair Café, you sit down with a fixer and work together on your item. You can learn how to repair it yourself, or simply watch and learn from the volunteers while enjoying a tea or coffee. TOG members will also be on hand to give you a tour of the space while you wait.
It’s not a drop-off service – it’s a shared, social repair session. Even if something can’t be fixed, you’ll at least go home knowing what went wrong and what your options are.
### Why join a repair cafe?
Repair Cafés are a great way to support a circular economy, reduce waste, and extend the life of your belongings. Every successful repair keeps resources in use for longer, saves money, and keeps items out of the bin.
They’re also a lovely way to meet people, swap stories about well-loved objects, and pick up new skills in a relaxed setting.
### Where and when?
**Where?** – TOG Hackerspace, Unit 1B Motor City, Kylemore Road, Dublin 12, D12 CF6V
**When?** – Sunday 18 January 2026, 12 pm – 4 pm
