**Agenda of the evening:**
**Welcome and Introductions:** The Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD) often opens the meeting, who welcomes everyone and introduces the meeting's theme or agenda. The TMOD also introduces the key roles and functionaries for that session.
**Prepared Speeches:** A significant portion of the meeting is dedicated to prepared speeches. Members working through various projects in the Toastmasters education program deliver speeches based on their chosen projects. Each speech is evaluated by a designated evaluator who provides feedback on strengths and areas for improvement.
**Table Topics:** Table Topics is a segment where impromptu speaking skills are tested. The Table Topics Master presents a series of short, unprepared speaking challenges or questions, and members or guests are invited to come to the podium and give a brief, improvised response.
**Evaluations:** Following the prepared speeches and Table Topics
segment, evaluators provide constructive feedback to speakers. These evaluations focus on content, delivery, body language, and time management. The goal is to help speakers improve their speaking skills.
**Reports and Functionary Roles:** The meeting may include various functionary roles, such as the Timer, Grammarian, Ah-Counter, and others, who report on their observations and contributions to the session. These roles help members improve their language and time management skills.
**General Evaluator:** The General Evaluator provides an overall assessment of the meeting, highlighting what went well and offering suggestions for improvement. They may also evaluate the evaluators' performance.
**Awards and Recognitions:** Toastmasters sessions often conclude with awards and recognitions, including the Best Speaker, Best Evaluator, and Best Table Topics Speaker. These awards encourage members to strive for excellence in their speaking and leadership abilities.
**Closing:** The meeting concludes with closing remarks from the Toastmaster of the Day, who may express gratitude to participants and encourage them to continue their Toastmasters journey.
**Networking and Socialising:** After the formal meeting, members and guests often have the opportunity to network, socialise, and discuss their experiences in a more relaxed setting.

Episode 3 of the 2026 Edition - The longest Kotlin night of the year

**Line-Up:**
👉 **TestBalloon: Kotlin testing is easier (and more fun) than you think**
*by Oliver Okrongli*
You want an easier way to write tests? Parameterize tests in plain Kotlin? Reuse a series of tests? Easily extend own your test setup? Have first-class support on all platforms? All without struggling with a huge framework API? TestBalloon is a new test framework that brings the power of Kotlin to your test setup. With a small-surface API, a hierarchical test structure and an extensible DSL, TestBalloon makes Kotlin testing easy, even at scale. Oliver, the author of TestBalloon, will show testing patterns and strategies and lots of practical examples, ranging from simple unit tests with less boilerplate to advanced testing with coroutines and generated data. This talk is based on insights first presented at KotlinConf 2026 in Munich. At the end of this talk, you’ll be able to firmly the answer the question: "How can I master Kotlin testing with ease, and make my team release with joy and confidence, every time?"
👉 **One Topic to Rule 'Em All**
*by Yonatan Karp-Rudin*
Kafka delivered every event exactly once, in order, and lost nothing. So what broke? This talk follows that question into the gap most event-driven systems leave open: what actually guarantees the order your domain depends on, and what quietly doesn't. We start from a real log line, find the crack in an architecture that looks clean and ships fast, and rule out the fix everyone reaches for first. The cure turns out to be one sentence of domain thinking plus one line of config, though the Schema Registry will fight you on the way there. A live demo runs the bug and the fix back to back: same load, same hero, one change. If you build with Kafka, you have probably shipped a version of this bug. You will leave able to spot it and fix it before it pages someone.
👉 **TBD**
**Speaker Bios:**
🗣 Oliver Okrongli
Oliver has been shaping and creating software from backend to frontends. He is the author of TestBalloon, a next-generation Kotlin test framework. Before, he has helped to maintain Kotest, and contributed to several libraries of the Kotlin ecosystem as well as the Kotlin compiler. Can be found on GitHub (OliverO2) and the kotlinlang Slack (Oliver O).
When not developing, he is most probably in deep talks, dancing, snowboarding or F18 catamaran sailing whenever he gets a chance.
🗣 Yonatan Karp-Rudin
Yonatan Karp-Rudin is a Staff Engineer at Billie, building event-driven systems in Kotlin and Spring Boot. Off the clock, he plays with AI agents and builds random tooling, trying to hand off as much of his own workflow to a machine as he can. The rest of the time he's brewing mead or deep in a video game.

When To Use AI, When Not To: Real Decisions Your Team Faces
**This event is taking place online.**

17:30 — Examples and take-aways

**Tech Talk: Secure Developer Environments in the Age of AI Agents**
**Speaker:** Patrick Brown (Coder)
**Abstract:** Federal engineering teams are under pressure to ship faster while meeting some of the most demanding security and compliance requirements in the world. In this talk, Patrick Brown of Coder explores how cloud development environments (CDEs) give agencies a foundation to accelerate software delivery without sacrificing control — and why that foundation matters even more as AI-powered coding agents enter the workflow. He'll cover how CDEs keep source code off endpoints, enforce zero-trust access patterns, and provide the consistent, ephemeral infrastructure that both human developers and AI agents need to operate safely at scale.

🥘👉 Inner Coach Reset + Community Potluck Lunch (Ashburn)
⚡ Reset your direction. Meet someone unexpected. Walk away with fresh clarity.
Join us for a relaxed **small-group afternoon event** that blends a light **Inner Coach conversation experience** with a **community potluck lunch**.
In February we hosted our first **Inner Coach event**, and many attendees said it helped them notice something powerful — the voice inside that quietly guides better decisions when life gets complicated.
This event builds on that idea.
Instead of overthinking the past, we’ll explore how to **reset direction for what’s next** — through thoughtful conversation, new perspectives, and the kind of questions that spark real insight.
We’ll start with a few short conversation rounds designed to spark reflection, humor, and perspective — and then continue the discussion over food and relaxed conversation.
Think **good food, grounded people, and real conversations about what comes next in life.**
Held in our **Startup Garage** — a bright, comfortable living-room style space inside a single-family home.
(Couches, food, conversation — **not an actual garage** 😊)
***
## **🥘 Potluck Lunch**
If you're able, bring something small to share.
Homemade or store-bought — both welcome.
A dish you enjoy making. A dish that always works
Or simply something easy from the store
If you're busy, come anyway — the goal is **community, not perfection**.
We’ll share a relaxed **afternoon potluck lunch** while continuing meaningful conversations with people navigating their next chapter.
***
## **What You’ll Experience**
• Light conversation rounds designed to spark insight
• Fresh perspectives from people navigating similar life transitions
• Humor, perspective, and grounded conversation
• A relaxed environment where ideas and connections happen naturally
***
## **Who Typically Attends**
• Professionals in their 30s–40s–50s
• Entrepreneurs and builders
• Divorced or separated individuals navigating what’s next
• People who prefer thoughtful conversation over surface-level small talk
Whether you're **resetting direction, building something new, or simply meeting grounded people**, this event is designed for honest connection and fresh perspective.
***
Most attendees are navigating life and growth with **curiosity, clarity, and a sense of humor.**
📍 Hosted in a spacious living-room setting inside a single-family home (Ashburn – 20147).
Full address and parking details are emailed **2–3 days before the event.**
