“Teen Takeovers” aren’t chaos. They are a response! Black working-class youth are growing up with closed schools, underfunded programs, over-policing, and no real investment in their futures. When the system abandons them, they create their own spaces to be seen, heard, and together. This is what rebellion looks like when basic needs go unmet. What we’re seeing is not just frustration—it’s potential. These moments show that youth are already moving, already gathering, already pushing back. Instead of criminalizing them, we should be organizing with them. This is an opportunity to build leadership, develop political consciousness, and turn energy into collective power. Turn out for them to show them real, revolutionary support at a time when all our regarding them as the problem. Tormas are traditional ritual food offerings, usually made from marzipan, that are offered to the Buddhas in a variety of ritual practices, including empowerments, retreats, and chanted prayers. By making these offerings, we create powerful causes for spiritual attainments, motivated by compassion and the wish to benefit all living beings. In this hands-on workshop, **Jana Stanley** from KMC Florida, who is skilled in making tormas, will guide us step by step in learning this beautiful and meaningful art. The workshop will be informal, practical, and enjoyable, and is suitable for everyone — whether you are experienced or completely new to torma making. Participants will learn about the different types of tormas and how to make them correctly and confidently according to the New Kadampa Tradition lineage. Everyone is welcome! Spring has spring, which means we're well on our way through the Firefly Foundations class series meant to provide students the opportunity to learn about the House and about our way of being Pagan. For the third class of our seven-class series, we'll cover what we call our "core order" of ritual. If you've joined us for a holiday ceremony or other event already, you've probably seen some of this, but during the video we'll go over all the different steps, what they mean, and how we do them. When you RSVP for this class, you'll be asked to provide an email address. We'll send you a link to the class video at that address as soon as possible after we receive it. We keep won't share your email with anyone ever. Watch the video before the class date and time, and come to class with any questions you might have. During the class session, we'll be going over anything from the video you wanted to review, and then for the remainder of the time, we'll probably practice a few of the ritual steps as examples for those that might not be familiar with them. If you're comfortable with it, join us at the MLK Memorial Library in the Room 401-D to join the conversation in-person. Masks will be welcomed, but not provided, for in-person attendees. We will also have the necessary technology to allow folks to join in online via Google Meet if you prefer to attend remotely. Video conferencing information will be sent out the morning of the event. If you're connecting that way, please give us a few minutes past 3:30pm to get the stream online. Be a friend to the environment, save money, and make friends. **Trail Details:** Humpback Rocks is an extremely popular section of the AT for good reason - the 360-degree summit views of the George Washington National Forest are stunning. Glass Hollow Overlook views are also impressive, and may still have the remnants of a plane crash from years ago. We will meet at Vienna Metro at 8AM and carpool to the trailhead. Drive time is about 2 hour and 30 mins. For drivers - Note that trailhead parking is limited, so we may need to park at the Humpback Rocks Visitor Center that is about 0.2 miles from the trailhead. Once at the trailhead, we will follow the trail counter-clockwise, first making a steep climb up to Humpback Rocks. After enjoying the view, we will follow the AT to the Glass Hollow Overlook to enjoy another view and look for plane crash remnants. Finally, we will turn off of the AT on the the Jack Albright Loop trail and finish the hike with a modest climb up Dobie Mountain. Make sure to bring water and snacks. Our curriculum includes knifes, swords, stick-fighting, striking, and grappling; but we place a special emphasis on edged weapons. Please come out and learn some Kali. Although FCS Kali is a combat-oriented systems that involves edged weapons, we provide a safe environment for learning w/o sacrificing realism in our training. Hey, everyone! I’m going to cycle through some regional classics in the coming months as I come back from plantar fasciitis. So this is Ramsay’s Draft, a roughly 16-18 mile circuit described in my book under the Wild Oak chapter. In a nutshell, we’ll meet up Saturday morning at Vienna, rationalize cars, and drive out. We’ll hike along ridge line in the afternoon before reaching Hiner Springs, one of the higher campsites we routinely use in our area (it could be cool).
