PBerg engineers - monthly meetup
PBerg engineers - monthly meetup
**This is 100% non-profit. The 15€ sign up fee for everyone is only to minimize last-minute cancellations. The total sum goes to a bar-tap that everyone can use to order drinks until the amount is used up. ‼️NO REFUNDS‼️** **‼️Please don't just show up without RSVPing here and paying the 15€. We have a separate room that has limited capacity and a specific drinks agreement with the bar - so splitting up the bill won't become a mess.‼️** **Small update on how your money get's used from May 2024 onwards:** As of this month, meetup.com has started charging me 34€ instead of 16€ per month. I've decided to distribute this fee evenly among all us participants every month. Example: In the last 12 meetups, the average number of attendees was 17. With 17 attendees I would effectively collect 230€ (after fees). I would now substract 34€ leaving us with 196€ that go to the bar. 15% get's tipped to the wait staff, in this case 30€, leaving us with 166€ effectively to order drinks. Hope everyone is cool with this system. :) Website: https://www.pberg-engineers.me WhatsApp groups: Please come and join us on WhatsApp! \- "PBerg Engineers \- NEWS" \- Only organizers can post announcements or polls \-\> https://chat\.whatsapp\.com/EqMJMmlCZO6LOOfAoG4yTj \- "PBerg Engineers \- DISCUSS" \- Everyone can post \-\> https://chat\.whatsapp\.com/LPuo76J83gF6IZMLUcM4u2 Please join those groups now if you're interested. :) All skill/education-levels welcome! :) Lightning Talks: \- TBD We'll also have a brief "Jobs: Lost & Found section". **Location:** From the street you will have to enter the right hand Cafe Chagall (yes, there are 2). Then, you go upstairs and our private room is in the far end corner of the building. We are a relaxed, non-formal meetup of like-minded software engineers who want to always keep learning and want to meet in physical reality over a drink or two. Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin is home to some of the most talented software engineers in the world, and every month, they come together for an exciting knowledge sharing meetup. klug machendes Gesellschafts-Spiel
klug machendes Gesellschafts-Spiel
\*\*\* english version \*\*\* "Can a whale be a parakeet?" \~> Of course not! "Can a window be a drink?" \~> Everyone knows that's impossible. "Can a democracy be a republic?" "Can a conjecture be an opinion?" "Is grasping something the same as understanding something?" \~> Well, now it gets tricky! And it gets exciting... Nothing stimulates thought quite like this new party game. The rules: 1. Everyone writes a term on a slip of paper. 2. The slips of paper are drawn in pairs. 3. We project the meaning of the two words onto the wall using a projector. 4. Everyone can add to/edit the meaning using a laptop or smartphone, and must provide examples of why something could be the same, or could never be the same. 5. After a while, no one can think of anything else. The differences and similarities between the two words are clearly highlighted. Then the score is tallied: (+1) Each new entry adding meaning earns one point. (-2) However, each deleted entry deducts two points. (+5) Each improvement on the existing meaning in Reclue earns five points. The understanding of all players becomes much clearer, especially with frequent play. The goal for the entire group is to reach at minimum 50 points. The game also works in multiple languages. You may join us from home using the internet. Comments in meetup-app will be used to organize that it works. The location (somewhere in Prenzlauer Berg) will be published the day when it takes place.

Data Science Retreat presents 5 Machine Learning prototypes and projects by Batch 44 participants. **Free to Attend!** Hey Berlin Data Folks! We’re kicking off 2026 with our first data event of the year. Join us for project demos, fresh ideas, great conversations, and of course—pizza & drinks on us 🍕🍻 Don’t miss it! **Agenda:** **17:30** \- Drinks and Networking **18:00** \- Welcome & Introduction Followed by Project Presentations **Project Ideas:** **1\. AI/ML \- EV Battery Shape Classification** ***Project by Uma Maheswari Obbani*** The project aims to automate the detection and classification of used electric vehicle (EV) batteries by shape — cylindrical, prismatic, or pouch — using AI/ML and computer vision techniques. The goal is to provide manufacturers and recyclers with real-time insights about battery type distribution, enabling efficient sorting, inventory management, and safety compliance. **2\. Developing Scalable and Reliable Coffee Yield Forecasting Tools** ***Project by Dr. Juan Fernando Duenas Serrano*** The aim of the project is short term coffee yield forecasting improves planning and value creation across the supply chain, from farmers to roasters. Current yield estimation methods are not scalable and require specialized expertise. This project explores computer vision as a scalable alternative using smartphone images. A YOLOv8 object detection model counts unripe Arabica coffee cherries on branches. The model can estimate yield at tree or farm level with optional user input. A Gradio or Streamlit web app will demonstrate, evaluate, and extend the model’s potential. **3\. Classic Car Diagnostic Tool** ***Project by Lulezim Ukaj*** This project aims to develop a specialized AI-powered diagnostic tool for classic cars that leverages community knowledge from German automotive forums. Unlike modern OBD-II–based diagnostic tools, which dominate the market, this solution targets pre-1996 vehicles where standardized electronic diagnostics do not exist. **4\. Enhancing on\-site audience audio** ***Project by Thede Witschel*** This project develops an enterprise-grade AI platform that automates the extraction of ESG data, regulatory compliance checks, and peer benchmarking for companies. Utilizing NLP and machine learning, the system converts unstructured sustainability reports into standardized metrics, facilitating real-time compliance monitoring and competitive intelligence across various industries. Business Impact: Targets the rapidly growing ESG software market, serving investment firms, consulting companies, and institutional investors requiring automated analysis for portfolio decisions and regulatory compliance. **5\. Ludus Automated Game Balancing: An AI\-Driven Evolutionary Pipeline for Card Game Meta\-Stability** ***Project by Rami Aldrea*** This project addresses the critical and often labor-intensive challenge of balancing a complex digital card game meta, specifically focusing on a 70-card set. The primary objective was to develop and validate an automated, iterative pipeline capable of achieving and maintaining a stable, competitive game environment where no single card or archetype consistently dominates. The desired outcome was a game meta with a mean card win rate of 50%, minimal variance (ideally <5% standard deviation for competitive e-sports), and preserved strategic diversity, all while significantly reducing manual design time. **20:00** \- Open for networking **20:30** \- Wrap up We have limited seat so please RSVP soon. See you all at the event.

**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you. The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 **Abstract** GitHub Copilot is rapidly changing how developers write, understand, and maintain code. Powered by generative AI and deeply integrated into modern development environments, Copilot acts as an intelligent coding assistant, helping developers move faster while maintaining quality and focus. In this session, we’ll explore what GitHub Copilot is, how it works, and where it fits into a real-world developer workflow. We’ll break down what Copilot can (and cannot) do, where it can be used, and how licensing differs for individuals and organizations. Most importantly, this talk goes beyond theory with a live, hands-on demo showcasing Copilot inside the IDE and on GitHub, demonstrating how it can assist with code generation, refactoring, learning new APIs, and accelerating day-to-day development tasks. Designed for developers, technical leads, and engineering managers, this session provides a practical introduction to AI-assisted development, highlights best practices for getting value from Copilot, and closes with guidance on how to continue learning and evolving alongside this rapidly advancing tool. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how GitHub Copilot can enhance productivity, improve developer experience, and fit into modern software teams today, not someday. **YouTube Link** TBA

January Book Club - Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy
January Book Club - Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy
For January, we’re reading Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy. For fans of Flight Behavior and Station Eleven, a novel set on the brink of catastrophe, as a young woman chases the world's last birds--and her own final chance for redemption. Franny Stone has always been a wanderer. By following the ocean's tides and the birds that soar above, she can forget the losses that have haunted her life. But when the wild she loves begins to disappear, Franny can no longer wander without a destination. She arrives in remote Greenland with one purpose: to find the world's last flock of Arctic terns and track their final migration. She convinces Ennis Malone, captain of the Saghani, to take her onboard, winning over his eccentric crew with promises that the birds will lead them to fish. As the Saghani fights its way south, Franny's dark history begins to unspool. Battered by night terrors, accumulating a pile of unsent letters, and obsessed with pursuing the terns at any cost, Franny is full of secrets. When her quest threatens the safety of the entire crew, Franny must ask herself what she is really running toward--and running from. Propelled by a narrator as fierce and fragile as the terns she is following, Charlotte McConaghy's Migrations is both an ode to our threatened world and a breathtaking page-turner about the lengths we will go for the people we love.

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Doing KPIs Right
**Doing KPIs Right: a KEY to Analytics (and AI!) Impact!** On the one hand, KPIs are such a Business 101 concept that it may seem a little silly to dedicate an entire session to the topic. On the other hand, KPIs get handled so poorly so often that a case could be made that this meetup could just be one of the most impactful sessions of the entire year! We’re starting off the year at a new location: [COhatch Upper Arlington](https://www.cohatch.com/locations/columbus/upper-arlington/) but with a familiar speaker, Tim Wilson! We’ll be back at Rev1 in February, when the speaker will presumably not be Tim. Tim will make the case that effectively measuring performance of projects, campaigns, and initiatives (and even meetups!) should be a foundation for any data analytics program. Topics covered will include: the “two magic questions” of performance measurement, how to help business partners distinguish between outcomes and outputs, and effective tactics for collaboratively establishing KPI targets. He will also stick his neck out by demonstrating some of these techniques in real-time by measuring whether his talk lives up to the promise of this description! All CBUSDAW events are free thanks to our 2026 Sponsors: Clarivoy, Conductrics, What Box Consulting Group, and Piwik PRO. Check out [cbusdaw.com](https://cbusdaw.com) for more information.
