Mountain Skills 1 Course
Mountain Skills 1 Course
***Mountain Skills for Only €120 / course*** Ever wanted to learn the skills you need to become a competent navigator in the Irish mountains, the UK, the Alps or beyond! As a fully qualified mountain guide and course provider for Mountaineering Ireland and the UK, I run Mountain Skills which is a nationally accredited course and is delivered in an upland environment. Hiking in Ireland can be challenging not only because of its wilderness, but the island has very little sign posted hiking trails in the mountains or hills. In addition to this, as being an island in the Atlantic we experience the forces of nature; storms and weather events. In other words, Ireland is probably the best place in Europe to learn a new outdoor skill like Mountain Skills. The aim of this course is to help you learn the skills you need to get out hiking in the hills and mountains independently, safely and responsibly. You will learn how to navigate with confidence by any type of weather conditions. A Mountain Skills course is run over 2 days in an upland environment and covers: Map reading, map description, map scale, contour lines, land and ground features, navigation legs, simple navigation techniques, setting the map, the 5 D, estimation of direction & destination, grid reference, mountain hazards, hypothermia, mountain environment, timing, pacing, route planning, route card, emergency procedures, personal equipment, safe movement skills, river crossing and much more… Some level of fitness is essential in taking part in this course. Each course (MS1 / MS2) is a 20 hour syllabus which includes indoor and outdoor sessions and night navigation (MS2) **A course includes:** Maps and compass provided, tea breaks, course notes, 3 route cards, a free hiking day practice as part of a weekend. **For Only €100 for under 18 and students and €120 for adults.** Accommodations can be provided Her are few additionnal dates: Jan 24-25 MS2 Glenmalure, Co.Wicklow Feb 11-12 MS1 Comeragh, Co.Waterford March 21-22 Glenmalure, Co. Tutorial 8 - Convolutional Neural Network with image classification
Tutorial 8 - Convolutional Neural Network with image classification
My name is Aurelie and I'm graduating with an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Limerick. I run monthly **machine learning** and **deep learning** tutorials in Dublin with a small group of people. \*\*In this tutorial, we will build a **CNN** model to classify images into categories, we will be using a public dataset. Together, we will walk through the full pipeline from data preprocessing to model training and evaluation. You will receive a jupyter notebook with reusable code showing all of these steps. No set up required, just a laptop and a google email address :) **The tutorials are limited to 15 participants and you can reserve your spot either here or by emailing aureliem219@gmail.com. Please make sure to book as soon as possible, as the registration count on Meetup does not guarantee availability.** **For more information about the tutorials:** * The tutorials are interactive and will be conducted using **Jupyter notebooks** on **Google Colaboratory** (a free, cloud-based platform that lets us write and run code directly in the browser). While **Google Colaboratory** is free to use, tasks that require more computational power (such as training deep learning models) may benefit from GPU access. In that case, Google offers a once-off payment for around €10 which can last several months depending on your usage. Some familiarity with **Python** or other programming languages is helpful but not required. Everyone is welcome to join and learn at their own pace. * The tutorial lasts for 1.5 hours. * During the tutorial, I share the Jupyter notebook with participants so they can keep it for future reference. We go through the notebook step by step together and I do my best to answer any questions along the way. * The notebook includes the complete code from data preparation to model training and evaluation. It can be reused or adapted for your own business needs or personal projects * We will be working with a variety of **Python** libraries including **Scikit-learn**, **PyTorch**, **TensorFlow**, **Keras**, **Seaborn**, **Pandas** and **Matplotlib** and the **Hugging Face** framework. These tools will help us explore different machine learning and deep learning techniques using publicly available datasets. * Each tutorial focuses on a different algorithm in depth. Topics covered include **linear regression**, **logistic regression**, **K-means clustering**, **decision trees**, **artificial neural networks (ANNs)**, **convolutional neural networks (CNNs)** for image classification, **object detection** and **natural language processing**. The goal is to break down each technique step by step, making it approachable and practical for real-world applications. This tutorial take place at the **Grafton Hotel, 32 Stephen Street Lower, Dublin 2** (We will be sitting in the lounge in the corner or on the right handside). It will run from **3 pm** to **4 pm**. **Grafton Hotel, 32 Stephen Street Lower, Dublin 2** * The tutorials are a high-level practical introduction to machine learning and deep learning and the emphasis on understanding how we process the data , train and evaluate a model with Python. We won't cover the mathematics behind it however some tutorials may have mathematical formulas as part of the algorithm explanation and some tutorials might have more complex data preprocessing as it depends on the datasets and the task we are doing. However the tutorials focus on the practical part! * *Payments need to be made in advance to secure your place and fees are non-refundable unless I need to cancel the event, in this case refunds will be made.*
Newbridge House & Gardens Photo Walk
Newbridge House & Gardens Photo Walk
Let's go for a relaxing walk in the park, where we can chat with like-minded people who enjoy taking photos and inspire eachother with ideas and creative feedback. We'll meet at **11:30 AM** at **Brambles Café**, next to Newbridge House. This is right by the car park up the lane from the main visitor entrance, and about a 20 minute walk from Donabate train station. From there, we'll set off around on a loop around the park, heading towards the deer park. There we can take some time to photograph the deer, assuming they're willing to sign the consent forms I've printed out... 🙃 After the deer, we'll take a left turn, following a path that will lead us through a dense wooded area along the north wall. This path opens up onto a meadow behind Newbridge Farm, where we're likely to spot cows, alpacas, and other animals. Continuing along the same path, we'll be taken in a loop around the GAA pitches, finally ending up back at the all-important café.

Alter Bridge
Alter Bridge
Alter Bridge + Special guests: Daughtry and Sevendust With more than two decades performing together, acclaimed rockers Alter Bridge show no signs of slowing down. Known for their memorable riffs, infectious vocal melodies and dueling guitar attack, the quartet comprised of Myles Kennedy on vocals/guitars, Mark Tremonti on guitars/vocals, Brian Marshall on bass and Scott Phillips on drums have garnered themselves massive critical and fan acclaim around the globe. The band looks to continue that trend when they release their self-titled, eighth studio album next year via Napalm Records. Alter Bridge will be released on January 9, 2026. Alter Bridge is comprised of 12 all new tracks from the band and features some of their most iconic moments on record. Songs like “Rue The Day,” “Disregarded” and “Scales Are Falling” will fit alongside any of the classic songs from Alter Bridge’s catalog. “Trust In Me” shows Myles and Mark sharing vocal duties as Myles handles the verse duties while Mark takes the chorus. That strategy is flipped on “Tested And Able” as Mark handles the verses and Myles takes on the choruses behind one of the band’s heaviest intros to date, giving way to an unforgettable melody. “Hang By A Thread” is sure to become a show favorite as it hints at some of the most popular songs in the band’s catalog. The album closer “Slave To Master” is an epic track that Alter Bridge has come to be known for and is the longest song the quartet has recorded to date. The band worked with longtime collaborator and producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette on their eighth album. Alter Bridge was recorded over 2 months this Spring in the legendary 5150 studio in California and Elvis’ recording studio in Florida.
Bohernabreena Reservoir Upper Loop
Bohernabreena Reservoir Upper Loop
Join us for a walk around Bohernabreena Reservoir Upper Loop. This is a great trail for people of all fitness levels. The route begins on a paved road, followed by a couple of small inclines, before heading around the reservoir. We will meet at 11am at the Bohernabreena Reservoir Upper Carpark - https://maps.app.goo.gl/dZmexEmu6F11g1Ru8 This a new car park that costs €5 to park, but it’s secure, there’s toilets and they have a little spot selling coffee at the weekends, too. It’s also a short distance from an entry point for the loop walk. If you are driving and can offer a lift do so in the comments below. From there we will take in the sights and afterwards head somewhere for a bite to eat. Please be sure to bring plenty of water, food (homemade baked goods are always encouraged), comfortable clothing and suitable footwear with you (the hike will go on different ground types but it’s mostly a rocky trail). Remember the weather in Ireland can vary over a short time so wear or carry clothing suitable for variable weather conditions. I will update with weather conditions closer to the date. As always, new members are more than welcome and please feel free to bring a friend (2 or 4 legs welcome) along and your camera; we love to have the photos to look back on! There are great views throughout this trail, so enjoy it and take your time. 8.9km Length 208m Elevation gain 3hr Estimated time After the hike join us for our Social Night in Oscar’s Cafe in Smithfield from 8pm (see event details in Meetup). Our Social Nights are an informal, fun, relaxed social event where you can have a drink (soft or otherwise) or two, meet other members and find out more about upcoming events. We would love to see some old-timers and returning members too. We have an area reserved in Oscar’s Cafe in Smithfield from 8pm with free finger food. Hope to see you all there

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

Take Control Of Your Life, Freedom From Negative Thoughts & Irrational Emotions
Feeling down? Sometimes depressed? Can't focus? Negativity & stress? Recent losses? Creativity in career and personal life hindered by mental blocks? Sometimes we never fully recover from traumatic experiences. Whether it was yesterday, last week or a year ago, traumatic experiences - a loss of a loved one, losing a job, a breakup - can leave you scarred. You talk about it and feel a little better, but it never goes away. After you hang up the phone, it's still there; the sadness, the cloud, the over-thinking, the worry, the guilt. You try to focus, but you're blocked. You try to look forward into new experiences, new relationships but a cloud is hanging over you, casting a shadow on what you once considered a bright, cheerful future. What happened to your courage? Your strength of character? You're 'why not' attitude? Whoever said 'time heals' must have had a special time machine, because after weeks, months, years, you're wondering - when exactly does that kick in? Sometimes it seems like drinking or drugs are the way to go. But they wear off, and now the problem is still there with added side effects from the drugs. At this free local Meetup event we will talk about: * What causes grief, anxiety and depression to become chronic. * Is it possible to regain your joy and happiness even after traumatic experiences? * How to break away from negativity and focus on the future * What are the steps to take to get control of your mind and your emotions? Learn about a safe, gentle, do-it-yourself counseling that can be done in the comfort of your own home. Let's explore safe, effective solutions for healing from traumatic experiences. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to the event. We look forward to seeing you there. This group is sponsored by the Dianetics & Scientology Life Improvement Center.
Il Sorpasso (The Easy Life)
Il Sorpasso (The Easy Life)
A classic Italian road comedy that was so good the film ministry recognized it as "culturally significant." Starring Vittorio Gassman and Jean-Louis Trintignant, the film shows that for young men in love the rules of the road are only suggestions. And the rules for love? Hey, this is an Italian picture! Oh to be young and filled with joie de vivre or la dolce vita. A french/italian fun filled movie with a surprising twist at the end. Do you have a fun memory from your youth?
