This is a beginner-friendly D&D game.

We teach as we play.

Tables of 5–6 players, we wont take anymore than this to maintain a high quality of participants.
12–18 total spots in total.
If you see a spot you can make, take it. They fill.
**What happens when you arrive**
You don’t need to bring anything
You’ll be seated shortly after you arrive
Most people come alone
You will not be the only one.

Play a character in a fantasy story
Make choices with your group
Talk, explore, and solve problems
Roll dice to determine your success and see what happens (usually shenanigans)

**What you don’t need to worry about**
You don't need to know rules
new people won't slow the group down
Don't need to bring anything
We guide you the whole way (< why this works)
**Who this is for**
You work a 9–5 and want to meet new people after work or on weekends.
You enjoy fantasy stories, books or games
You want to try dungeons and dragons
You want a curated story games night that will be the highlight of your week.
**Frequently Asked Questions... 🕵️♂️**
**Won't everyone else already know each other?**
The only people who know each other are the Dungeon Masters leading each table. We don't allow groups to attend these nights, so at most there is a duo coming who already know each other. Everyone and you are super new to this.
**Will I be the only girl at the event?**
No, our events are generally 3:1 ratio, most tables I have seen are 2 girls and 4 guys. no promises on any individual night, but you'll find it doesn't impact your enjoyment.
**I'm worried I might slow everyone else down?**
Not true, pre-filled character sheets take much of the guess work out of learning the game, and the GMs have all taught tens to hundreds of people this game.
*The only thing you'll want to remember is the "D20", a twenty sided dice is always used to resolve actions, whether it's picking a pocket, striking a wicked goblin or recalling history on a forgotten ruin.*
*Ok, your basically ready now. seriously.*
Don't believe me? Come and find out for yourself.
**I'm worried I might be too old/too young for this?**
so here's what you'll want to know. we usually see attendees anywhere from 19-49 years of age.
normally it's 25-35ish as we often curate out events for young professionals and established professionals working locally.
But I'll say this: if you get along with a mature audience of respectful people who can collaborate together - you're in for a good time.
**Session**

Haruki Murakami, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, & Creative Writing
Welcome to the Melbourne Sci-Fi & Fantasy Meetup's first gathering for magic realism and creative writing! If you've read or are new to Haruki Murakami, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Susanna Clarke, please come along. And for writers, this is also a space to talk about the craft of writing (any genre, fiction and non-fiction). I hope to make this a regular monthly or fortnightly event at other locations around Melbourne when the weather is warmer. But it's winter, so we'll have our first meetup at the Mitre Tavern in the CBD. Easy to find, and we don't have to wait outside in the icy wind waiting for tables. Join us for a coffee or glass of wine that stops time, cats with secret names, and good conversation about the books we love. After the event, we can kick on at the Mitre or maybe stroll over to a nearby wine bar or restaurant to continue the socialising.
What to Bring:
Paper, pen, and a story to share. I'll be giving you all some small, fun writing exercises and we'll see where the day takes us.
OPEN MIC: Poetry & Prose Readings "FREE-ish"
**Get ready for a heart-warming afternoon of readings in a cool, historic cellar - and guess what? It will cost you less than a cup of coffee (well, almost!)**
NOTE: THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT
Cost: $25, strictly limited to 25 seats
Your ticket includes a $20 food and drinks credit voucher ($5 goes to the venue to support costs).
[CLICK HERE TO BOOK YOUR SEAT](https://MelbournePoets.eventbrite.com.au)
Budding poets, writers and lyricists join Melbourne Poets for our monthly Poetry & Prose Meetup! This is a true open mic event (usually without the need for a microphone). There'll be an opportunity to read your work (if you're brave enough) and listen to others over a drink or two. You don't need to be published; you just need to be passionate about your craft.
So grab a support buddy and come along to our luxe loungeroom hidden away in the 170-year-old bluestone cellars in East Melbourne's Tribeca precinct. We've got great cocktails, back-vintage wines, craft brews, amazing food, and good vibes in a chilled and supportive safe space.
RULES: This is a ticketed event due to limited seating capacity. $20 of your ticket price is offset against any bar drinks and food ordered through the venue on the day. Please ensure each piece is less than 5 minutes for those wanting to read. Depending on attendance and number of readers, there may be multiple opportunities to read. Please no "clicking" or trauma porn, and no self-promotion allowed during the readings but networking after the event is absolutely OK.
GETTING THERE: We recommend you use public transport or rideshare. We are on the 12/109 tram line (stop 16, Wellington St), several Bus Routes (302, 303, 304, 305, 309, 318, 350, 905, 906, 907, 908) or a 5-10 minute walk from Jolimont and North Richmond train stations. If you decide to drive and/or have a designated driver, 2-hour paid parking is available around Powlett Reserve, Darling Square, and the Fitzroy Gardens. Extended paid parking is available at Care Park at 162 Albert Street, East Melbourne or the Epworth Freemasons Car Park in Gotch Lane off Grey Street.
UNABLE TO ATTEND?
Cancellations and Refunds are generally not possible. However, for sudden illness, COVID, or other special circumstances, we may agree to reschedule your session to another day or provide a gift certificate for part or all of your ticket price. Please SMS your request to 0466 045 473.

June Book Club - Churros in the burbs
Come meet us in the burbs in June for a warming hot chocolate!
For those of you who may be joining us for the first time, we have no set reading list, "homework" or assigned book. We want to hear about what you like to read! Come along and **tell us about up to four** of your recently read and/or to be read books and hear about what we're all reading too!
Whilst we encourage all readers, given the nature of the discussions that we have our meetups aren't suitable for children under the age of 14.
**Please note that as advised in our email and post of November 14th 2024 our fees have increased from $5.00 to $6.50 per person per meetup. This is due to [Meetup.com](http://meetup.com/) doubling the organiser fees for meetup groups. We now pay at least $50 a month to have a Meetup site (unfortunately this cost fluctuates due to Meetup charging us in USD). All fees go towards paying the meetup fees. This can only be accepted via the Meetup site and we do not accept cash on the day.**
Similarly, if you are planning to attend, please RSVP on the Meetup site. RSVPs can be made right up until the moment the event starts, we are unable to accept cash on the day or attendances from those who have not RSVPd as we need to plan for attendance numbers and space.
We also ask that you purchase something from San Churro on the day as we are taking up their space.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you've got any questions. Happy reading and see you then!
All Write!
Melbourne Central Food Hall on Level 2. Far back corner near large windows to outside. Look for the colourful piano! See below for exact instructions on finding us.
IMPORTANT: Please turn up if you RSVP. Other writers are counting on you being there with them so no one sits alone!!!
Currently we have part-time hosts and regulars who will turn up and sit together.
EVERYONE, please keep a look out for newly arriving people in the group and make them feel welcome, especially if they say: Are you with the writing group?
If you arrive first and have an A4 piece of paper, it is a good idea to write on the paper: Writing Group.
This way everyone will find each other.
Bring your writing tools, and anything that you have written recently (optional). Remember your earphones if you like to listen to music while you write.
There are no rules :) You can write. Or you can chat and write. You can share your work. Or not share your work. (If you need silence to concentrate then headphones are a good idea considering it is in a public space.)
Bring pen and paper as a backup.
Melbourne Central wifi available.
Who: People who write and/or want to write (more)
What: An open group of writers who meetup in a stimulating space to write together, share writing and ideas and support each other’s writing goals
Why: Inspiration, motivation and space to write.
Where: Melbourne Central - see photo for our location. Red shaded area would be ideal if available when you arrive. Detailed instructions if you do not know the area:
1) Go to the Shot Tower (the old building inside Melbourne Central with the big cone glass roof above it).
2) Go up the the escalators (there’s only one set of up- escalators near the Shot Tower, you can’t miss it).
3) You are now on level 2, Dining Hall (there are signs to the right, just slightly, stating this).
4) Top Juice store is to your right. Turn right so you pass Top Juice and walk toward the food hall.
5) You are now in the food hall near a black piano. Go past this. Go to the seating at the far back corner where there are large windows facing outside.
6) Look for us writers. There should be a sign on the table. Call out your hosts name and ask if this is the writing group. We will say YES, here we are!
Additional hosts wanted!!! Please contact Mat Clarke.
Please only RSVP if you can make it. And also un-RSVP if you need to cancel.
Thank You,
Melbourne Writers.

Queer Women's Crafting
**Tickets:**

Making friends as an adult can be hard. Sometimes it's easier when your hands are busy.
Join us for a cosy afternoon of crafting, conversation, and community at Library at the Dock.
This low-pressure social gathering is open to queer and sapphic women aged 18+ who would like a quiet, welcoming space to connect with others.
Bring along your own craft project (no paint / things that might stain tables please), settle in with some colouring, or simply come for a chat.
Not particularly crafty? No problem. We'll also have playing cards and optional conversation prompts available to help break the ice and make meeting new people feel a little easier.
Your host, Jenny, is a passionate queer community facilitator who loves creating spaces where women can relax, be themselves, and build meaningful connections.
Whether you're new to Melbourne, looking to expand your social circle, or simply keen to spend an afternoon with like-minded people, we'd love to have you join us.
**A few things to know:**
• This is an alcohol-free event
• Please bring your own craft supplies if you'd like to work on a project
• Venue capacity is limited to 24 people, so bookings are essential
• LGBT+ Social Hub Melbourne is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment. Harassment, discrimination, and bullying will not be tolerated.
We can't wait to meet you! :)
28 June: Figurine Painting and Friends-Social
**✨Are you tired of making ‘how are you’ friends? This event is for you!✨**
🎨What better way to build and deepen connections than through a fun activity like **Figurine painting**!
There are many social events but it isn’t easy to feel connected to someone in a large group setting. I am super extroverted yet found myself walking home after a great social feeling more lonely, because of all the superficial connections made. I started Hue&Crew to help people build their next close-friend circle based on age, personality and interest!
🎨**What to Expect**
This isn’t a big mixer event, every event has a limit of 6 people per table and a fishbowl full of conversation starters to help people get started! We move around Melbourne's many beautiful cafes weekly to keep things fresh! Expect:
* A fresh, comfy venue
* A hosted structure so you’re never left awkwardly quiet
* A fishbowl of conversation starters for the introverts
* A relaxed atmosphere where you can genuinely be yourself
* Hand-painted figurines you made yourself to bring home
Each group is curated to feel natural, matched by age, interest and personality
🎨**Notice before you sign up:**
As the events are really small and it might take some time to form a group with similar interests, we will inform you when there is a suitable group for you!

Bad Girls Book Club July 2026
**Our July novel is: *Listen for the Lie* by Amy Tintera**
**This month’s novel was named one of the best books of 2024. It’s a domestic thriller with crime, mystery, and murder, told from women’s perspectives. The story includes a detective, an unreliable narrator, and plenty of suspense. The book is 352 pages in print and 9 hours and 18 minutes on audiobook.**
What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter?
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.
But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it.
The truth is out there, if we just listen.

Imagine a future intentionally shaped by kindness: let's build it together with on
**Saturday, July 18th at the Junto Hotel in downtown Columbus!**
The function of our conference is to help people develop the skills to build kind community and provide opportunities to increase in-person connection and support in each other’s lives.
**This conference is for any of us who are:**
· Feeling isolated and lacking community in our current society
· Wanting to make a difference in our own lives and the lives of each other
· Anyone who is just wishing to create something better!
**We will build more kind community by:**
· Developing formats for building community-based infrastructure where existing systems are failing that anybody can use
· Providing the tools that help people connect in-person and practicing using those tools together
· Implementing Universal Design so that no one gets left behind
**Opportunities and practical tools we are offering:**
· Lunch!
· Community-Building Toolkits for people to take home
· A chance to build lasting friendships and supportive connections
· Opportunities to share referrals, strategies, resources, and the kind of connected support networks many people receive through family, but that those without community and family are often lacking
· Ongoing community dinners, free workshops, and other events where people can connect
**Participants also have the opportunity to receive CE credits from the Ohio CSWMFT Board.**
We are just getting started! This is one of many upcoming events where we can continue making kind community together. **Who else should be here?**
Share this opportunity with anyone else who you think might want to build kind community! For more information and to register visit [www.kindhelp.org](http://www.kindhelp.org/). If you would like to help us plan the day, we would love to connect email us at [info@kindhelp.org](mailto:info@kindhelp.org)!
