Debate Night: Free Party "Movement"
The topic of this event has been heavily inspired by [Blast](https://www.blast-info.fr)'s video on the subject matter:
[FREE PARTY : LE CAUCHEMAR OBSESSIONNEL DU GOUVERNEMENT](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSvVvq3KxfI)
The history of free party events dates back to the Thatcher era. In 1987, her government passed legislation that effectively forced many bars and clubs to close at 2 a.m. As a result, groups of people began occupying abandoned factories on the outskirts of cities in order to keep the party going. While some gangs and groups attempted to take over these gatherings for profit, most remained true to the punk and squatter ethos from which they emerged.
A further pushback from the UK government came in 1994 with the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, which, in a rather absurd manner, prohibited gatherings of more than 10 people listening to music characterized by "a succession of repetitive beats." Many free party groups, such as Spiral Tribe, Bedlam, and DiY Sound System, left the UK and settled in France, where the movement found fertile ground.
These parties can be recognized by their distinctive music and aesthetics. However, they are much more than that. They are organized in a highly horizontal manner, where even the musicians are almost part of the public, and attendees are free to branch out and play their own music with few clear boundaries, not even temporal ones. This creates an atmosphere of intense emotions, spontaneity, and very limited oversight.
People from outside these circles often claim that these gatherings are places of lawlessness, with little respect for private property, where participants seek a state of trance through music, drugs, or both.
Recently, RIPOST, a legislative proposal aimed at cracking down on free parties, passed the Senate, the upper chamber of the French Parliament. It proposes criminalizing the organization of such events, with penalties of up to two years in prison and a €30,000 fine. It would also criminalize participation in these parties, with penalties of up to six months in prison and a €7,500 fine.
While many participants consider these parties to be fully apolitical and simply an escape from the hardships of modern life and the realities they experience, others, including many observers and experts, see a deeply political dimension in these gatherings through their rejection of governmental control and conventional social structures.
One particularly haunting quote, often associated with participants in the movement during the 1990s, captures this sentiment:
*"We are dancing on the ruins of the West."*
How should we, as a society, view such organizations? Could they be regulated in a way that would not backfire? Or are they a litmus test, a canary in the coal mine whose repression signals a drift toward authoritarianism?

Mental Fitness Walk — coffee & conversation at Bois de la Cambre 🌳☕️👟
We spend so much of the week keeping up. With work, with people, with the version of ourselves we're supposed to be. Saturday morning can be different. 🌿
Come and join for an honest conversation and a mindful walk with people who also get it. No pressure to share anything you're not ready to share. You can talk as much or as little as you like; sometimes, just being outside in nature with good people is enough.
*This is part of a series of regular walks for the [Mental Fitness Collective](https://www.meetup.com/mental-fitness-collective/) — a simple, free morning to step outside, move at a gentle pace, and be around people who aren't performing either.*
**📍Meeting point:** Stella - Coffee Food Bakery (in front of the tram stop Legrand), where you can buy a drink of your choice (optional).
🗓️ **Agenda:** We'll take a relaxed walk through Bois de la Cambre and a full loop around the lake, about 4-5 km, at a pace where conversation feels comfortable. We'll finish at the roundabout at the end of Av. Louise.
**Small housekeeping rule:** What happens in the group stays in the group. Whatever is shared between participants during our time together stays between us. It is to make sure this feels like a safe place to be honest.
I'll be there to welcome everyone. Come as you are. 🌿
Free to join, RSVP to save your spot!
‼️Altough this is a free event, I would like to ask you to try to respect each other’s time: In case you won’t be able to make it or change your mind, please cancel your attendance by **8 PM, 3 July** the latest, so others might be able to take your place. Thank you!
I look forward to seeing you!
*The event is weather-dependent.*
*This walk will run every other Saturday. Each one is standalone, so come whenever it works for you. Join our group, [Mental Fitness Collective](https://www.meetup.com/mental-fitness-collective/) and get notified of our events.*
Somatic Movement in Nature
**Somatic Movement** is a powerful method based on principles and wisdom from Eastern movement practices, such as yoga and Tai Chi, as well as Western techniques and insights from neuroscience, trauma therapy, and burnout recovery.
The goal is to activate your body and brain by allowing energy to flow through your system without overloading the nervous system. This is achieved through gentle, intentional movements, stretches and exercises, but also by increasing awareness and sensory perception — both internally (within ourselves) and externally (of our surroundings).
Combining tension-releasing stretches, easy flow-restoring exercises (using trees, branches, logs, stones, hills...), doing silent or touch meditations and playful authentic relating games, we're able to release a lot of stored tension and start to feel free, open-hearted, unassuming and adventurous again.
The 2h-sessions focus on gradually increasing physical resilience, but include emotional and energetic aspects as well to restore balance in body, mind and spirit. There is no competitive stake, there are no extremes or high-intensity actions involved. But we do sometimes challenge our personal comfort zones a bit, sliding in and out, bumping into some limiting belief or conviction we might carry within. We learn by looking at things from different perspectives.
The sessions are guided by seasoned therapist Ken.
For more info on his practices, please visit: www.nieuwegrond.be
**PRACTICAL**
This is a free introduction session for you.
But since this is a professional practice, where paying people might participate as well, we can only offer this once. If you wish to continue afterwards, you can talk to Ken personally or book through his website mentioned above.
The session starts at 10h sharp and ends at 12h.
Meeting and end-point is always Parking Forest Playground Everzwijnbad, Weertsedreef 16, Oud-Heverlee at the border of Meerdaelwoud. Please read the location description well, Google Maps can be a bit tricky.
Since we're in the forest and will connect with trees, branches, soil etc, please make sure your clothes can handle this. If you wish, you can bring some water and small towel for comfort, but it's not a must. Please be aware that the organizer can not be held responsible for any damage or losses you might suffer. A safe environment is a priority for everyone.
The event will be cancelled only when the weather really doesn't allow it.
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask via personal message.
We hope to see and connect with you there!
Ken
Silent Walk in the Forêt de Soignes
We will be walking through the forest for a little over 1 1/2 hours, silently, just noticing the world around us and inside us. The idea is to experience the magic of a different type of walking, The invitation is to slow down and notice what is going on inside you and around you.
Very often people experience a closer connection with nature and with self, with sometimes surprising insights.
*Please make sure you are fit enough to go the 4.5 km distance. We will be walking slowly, but we will not take any breaks.*
We will be meeting at the Hermann Debroux Metro at **14h**. (Exit straight ahead after leaving the platform--on the Loxam side).
If you RSVP as coming, please be on time. We will be starting our walk from there 5 min. after the hour sharp.
There is the renovated Maison de Prieur at the exit of the forest where we could gather for a drink or a meal after our walk, depending on what you feel like.
Looking forward to an inward adventure? Come and join us on **Saturday, July 4, at 14h**
My phone number is 0472 92 11 76, in case you need to communicate with me.
Intervals Workout Session 🏃🏻♂️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏻 Hippodrome de Boitsfort
We do cycles of 4-6 weeks, with a progressive intensity, and the last session is lighter.
Program:
15’ warm up
**To be defined**
Cool down to get back to the starting point… or more
S=All out sprint
RF = Run fast, at MAS (Maximum aerobic speed)
CF = Run comfortably fast (1h threshold)
J = Jog, recuperation
Notes:
It should take about one hour in total, as the cool down will end when we reach back to the meeting point.
It's NOT required to have an activity tracker or smart watch to be able to follow the program, as I'll be giving signals with a whistle.
For the "run" part, you can follow your own pace and we'll be regrouping in the "jog" part.
Intervals training is not advised for total beginners. To have an idea, the average pace at the warm up is around 5'45"/km-6'/km so this pace should feel very comfortable

Into the Woods... (~15k)
Our journey takes us once more under the towering beech cathedral of the Forêt de Soignes. We’ll begin our transition from city to nature at the threshold where Brussels meets the wild, gathering right by Woodpecker (Le Kiosque) in the heart of Bois de la Cambre.
After meeting near the kiosk, we’ll head past the ponds and disappear into the deep greens and dappled light of the ancient woodland.
🏃♂️ What to Expect
Distance: \~15 km
Pace: 6:00–6:15 min/km
Terrain: Light trails and firm forest paths. Trail shoes aren't a strict necessity but are highly advisable. (Note: The route may be adapted depending on weather conditions).
Good Company: Run with like-minded individuals and make new friends along the way.
Post-Run Coffee: An optional gathering at Woodpecker for well-deserved coffee and refreshments.
🎒 Important Logistics
Bag Drop: 🚫 Not available. Please arrive ready to run.
Hydration: Because we are hitting a full 15km stretch without a base camp, please bring a hydration pack, handheld flask, or running belt to carry your own water.
See you at the kiosk.

Stop Guessing: How to Measure and Improve LLM Outputs
Most people use LLMs by feel: ask a question, read the answer, decide whether it “seems good,” and move on.
That works for casual use. It does not work when you are building software, automating workflows, writing important documents, or relying on AI for anything that needs to be repeatable.
In this talk, we’ll look at how to improve and evaluate the inputs and outputs of LLMs using practical measurement techniques. We’ll cover how prompt changes affect results, how to compare outputs, how to build simple evaluation sets, and how math-based methods like similarity scoring can help you move beyond guesswork.
This will be beginner-friendly, so even if you don't know anything about AI, you should get something out of it. However, this will be a little more technical than our intro talks. You do not need to be an AI researcher, but programmers and technically curious attendees will get a lot out of it.
We’ll cover:
* Why “it looks good” is not enough
* How to improve prompts by changing the input, context, and constraints
* How to compare LLM outputs more systematically
* Basic evaluation techniques for accuracy, consistency, and usefulness
* How embeddings, cosine similarity, and scoring can help evaluate results
* Where automated evaluation works — and where humans still need to stay in the loop
By the end, you’ll have a practical mental model for treating LLMs less like magic and more like systems you can test, measure, and improve.
LOGISTICS AND PARKING:
The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks!
The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.

How to Take Control of YOUR Mental Health
It’s time to take control of your mental health. How do you get rid of stress, anxiety and uncertainty? These emotions are buried deep in your reactive mind.
Find out what the reactive mind is, and in the process find yourself.
Here is the secret of being positive and free:
Thinking positively is not enough.
You also have to get rid of the negative thinking.
Your mind is like a garden.
You can plant many beautiful flowers in it, but if you don't get rid of the weeds when you plant your flowers, the weeds will soon take over the whole garden.
A positive thought is like a flower in your mental garden, and a negative thought is like a weed.
You cannot expect to have a positive mindset if you continue to have negative thoughts dwelling and growing there.
So, how do you get rid of the negative thoughts? That's what this Meetup is all about. Attend this local meeting and find out!
The Meetup event will be led by a consultant who had helped many people live happier in life.
Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.

Want to Truly Heal from Emotional Trauma?
Why are we unhappy? Where does emotional pain come from? Studies show that people who suffer from long-term emotional pain have painful experiences in their lives that were never fully resolved in their mind. In other words, there were issues in the past that were not completely dealt with. This can include abuse in childhood, breakups, divorce, death of a loved one, to name a few.
How do you know whether you have gotten over something painful? Here is an easy test: Do you still have attention on what had happened to you? For instance, do you still find yourself thinking about something painful that you went through? If you are, then you are not over it. In fact, in severe cases, people find themselves playing a "tape" in their mind over and over again.
So how do you heal from your past? How do you stop the "tape" playing in your mind? In this meeting, you will learn a technique to help you with that.
Come join us! Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
