The Whiteheaded Boy (Abbey Theatre)
The Whiteheaded Boy (Abbey Theatre)
Plan to have a pre-show drink at the Abbey Theatre bar from 6.45, if anyone feels like joining. Please buy your own ticket here: [https://www.abbeytheatre.ie/whats-on/the-whiteheaded-boy/ ](https://www.abbeytheatre.ie/whats-on/the-whiteheaded-boy/ ) About the play: A top-of-the-shelf comedy – one of the sharpest in the Abbey’s history" The Sunday Independent **“Every Mammy has her favourite…”** The table is set for Denis, arriving home from Dublin where he’s studying Medicine at Trinity College – a source of enormous pride for his besotted mother and of great resentment to his five other siblings. But when word comes that he may have failed his exams *again*, the final straw breaks. Threats of deportation, lawsuits, bribes and counter-bribes escalate, as the family twist the fate of their whiteheaded boy to suit themselves. A smash hit when it premiered at the Abbey Theatre 110 years ago, Lennox Robinson’s **The Whiteheaded Boy** is a raucous, high-stakes tug-of-war between those who will do anything to keep their standing in the town and those who just want to live their lives as they please. Award-winning director **Annie Ryan** re-imagines this bawdy and bold Irish classic with a contemporary eye and a sharp feminist wink to the past. Notions abound! You can read the former Head of Special Projects at the National Archives of Ireland, Catriona Crowe’s take on the play and its modern relevance [here](https://www.rte.ie/culture/2026/0615/1577953-the-whiteheaded-boy-how-a-110-year-old-play-speaks-to-today/). The Assistant Costume Design role is made possible by the Abbey Theatre’s partnership with the Irish Society of Performance Designers through their Assistant Designer Programme, funded by the Arts Council.

Let’s play… The Wildsea / The (Orc) Pope Is Dead
Let’s play… The Wildsea / The (Orc) Pope Is Dead
Join us every Sunday and tell a story as a group by playing a beginner-friendly roleplaying game. Every week we have 2-3 different games - you will choose which game you play on the day. All materials provided and rules are explained at the start of each game, you just need to bring your imagination. This week's facilitators: * **Colin** will run The Wildsea: Centuries ago, the old world was swallowed by a sea of mile-high trees. Now you and your crew sail across the treetops of the Wildsea in a shop driven by a chainsaw. Low magic, high weird, leaf-punk adventures await! Your crew has heard rumors of same rare materials revealed by a recent storm and you are off to explore! * **Silvia** will run The (Orc) Pope Is Dead, yet another silly adventure by Grant Howitt. Terrible news: you and the lads went out drinking with the Pope last night and now he’s dead. The orcish church of Bog-Al-Kurruk is without a leader. Can you and your mates - esteemed clerics all - work out which one of you it’s going to be, and then outdo or discredit your rivals to claim the most prestigious title in the orc nation? *** Details for the event (number of groups and games) will be published here or earlier on our [Discord server](https://tinyurl.com/indie-rpgs-dublin). Feel free to ask the organisers any questions you have (here or on Discord).

Bad Girls Book Club July 2026
Bad Girls Book Club July 2026
**Our July novel is: *Listen for the Lie* by Amy Tintera** **This month’s novel was named one of the best books of 2024. It’s a domestic thriller with crime, mystery, and murder, told from women’s perspectives. The story includes a detective, an unreliable narrator, and plenty of suspense. The book is 352 pages in print and 9 hours and 18 minutes on audiobook.** What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter? After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life. But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it. The truth is out there, if we just listen.
