We will depart at 10:00 (sharp) and drive to a parking space near the lake. From there it is a 20 minute walk. 17:00 for return is an estimate. We can stay as long as we like. Note that the place is remote. There are no facilities. Because 1st May - International Workers’ Day and holiday - is likely to draw crowds to Grunewald - especially with the excellent weather forecast - we’ll head to a quieter nearby forest instead. We’ll meet at the Wannsee ferry terminal (near Wannsee S-Bahn station) and take the ferry to Alt-Kladow. The ferry ride is covered by a standard BVG ticket (Zone B). Departure is at 11:00 am (the next ferry leaves an hour later), so please allow about 10 minutes to walk from the S-Bahn station to the terminal. Our first break will likely be fairly soon at Schloss Sacrow, where there’s a simple café - hopefully open - and public toilets. I’ll bring a frisbee. The highest point of the chalk coast is the Königsstuhl, which towers 118 meters above the beach. * **Sassnitz:** Sassnitz is a resort town on the German island of Rügen. Once again we will have our traditional Spring hike! We have done this every year, and it's a beautiful walk! The hike will go from S-Bahnhof Wannsee to Potsdam Hbf, along the Wannsee, through Volkspark & Schloss Glienicke, Park & Schloss Babelsberg, and ending in Potsdam. The walk will be about 15 km and take approx. 4 hours. You can find part of the route here, but note that this is not the full route -- we'll continue on to Potsdam: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/germany/brandenburg/von-potsdam-zum-wannsee Bring lunch, snacks & water, comfortable walking shoes, and maybe even some sunglasses. We will stop a couple of places along the way, and you *may* be able to purchase food for lunch, but it's a good idea to bring something with you. **Note: The weather in May is variable.
