Known as the **land of Noah** and holding one of the most picturesque secrets of Azerbaijan and **resembling the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu, the Alinja Fortress towers over Nakhchivan below.** While considered autonomous, with its own legislature and ruler, the region is **presided over by Azerbaijan** despite sharing no land border whatsoever and wedged between Turkey, Armenia and Iran.
