Historic Little India: Gerrard India Bazaar (REVISED FOR 2026)
Historic Little India: Gerrard India Bazaar (REVISED FOR 2026)
\*\***The Toronto History Walks Explorer Pass is available. Get it now for $125.00 for 1 year of unlimited tours, email** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** **for more information or for signing up!\*\*** \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the Ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** The story of historic Little India is a true Toronto success story, a unique look at a neighbourhood and the people who call it home. But the story is not always a happy one. Like all other areas in Toronto, Little India started out as a purely English - Anglican area and was repeatedly changed as other immigrants opted to leave the security of the downtown core for outer areas. With the opening of the Naaz theatre in 1972, the community that became Little India started to take shape, but in Toronto the forces that developed communities were different in that part of the city sandwiched between Leslieville to the south, and Greektown to the north. With a strictly Anglo-Saxon pro-British community entrenched for over 100 years, now changing to include south Asians, the area was seen as a rather depressed area, or an area in transition, and violence was an unfortunate part of life. Racial tensions increased dramatically with the influx of south Asians. But by the 1980s and 1990s the district had found its feet, and Little India was a popular Toronto district and tourist attraction, with visitors pouring in from around the world to partake of the richness. A true cultural enclave in Toronto! A fascinating history and a fascinating community awaits! This tour has been revised a few times to add more historic information to the walk, it has been revised once again for 2026 with new landmarks and stories attached. Should be a fascinating walk! This walk is for all fitness levels. The meeting place for our walking adventure is on the southwest corner of Greenwood Avenue and Gerrard Street East! This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person! \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the Ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! Latin Fest at City Hall
Latin Fest at City Hall
Hi everyone. Nathan Phillips Square is playing host to Canadian Latin Fest 2026 on Sunday, 12 April. Through music, food, dance and performance, it celebrates Canadian Latin culture, which I am sure we can all agree, is very vibrant in the city. The event starts at noon with opening remarks and some dignitary speeches. **MEET TIME:** 12:00 noon for our own opening remarks and intros. According to the schedule, the performances are (mostly) over by 3pm. **MEETING SPOT:** in the covered area between Hero Burger and the skate rental shop. **Note:** For those wanting to come a bit later, I will check back at the meeting spot after the first parade ( approx. 1 pm) According to their schedule, the first of two parades steps off at 12:40pm. (The parades are new and I believe they will be quite short and take place within the square.) Whatever your photo interests might be, I am sure there will be lots of ops, not only as part of the festival but also all around City Hall. On a side note, I anticipate putting together meetups in the future, likely during the week when the days are longer, that will offer an element of instruction. The idea is to have willing experienced photographers lead small groups of beginners or those looking to improve their photography skills and/or knowledge of their DSLR or mirrorless. For Sunday's meetup, I think everyone would want to shoot the parade(s)/performances on their own but if there are people interested/willing, they could team up for an hour of guided shooting at some point during the day. I put my name forward as someone who would be happy to lead a group. We will have more discussion about the instructional meetups on Sunday. The weather can't make up its mind. It is now looking like there could be some rain (but don't let that deter you from coming out) . I hope to see you there.

🏙️🚶 OLD CABBAGETOWN, REGENT PARK & DISTILLERY DISTRICT WALK (9KM) 🚶🏙️
🏙️🚶 OLD CABBAGETOWN, REGENT PARK & DISTILLERY DISTRICT WALK (9KM) 🚶🏙️ Historic Streets, City Contrasts & A Distillery District Finish Some walks show you just how many different versions of Toronto can exist within a few kilometres. Join us for a social city walk through some of Toronto’s most layered and contrasting neighbourhoods — from the storybook streets of Cabbagetown, to the revitalized energy of Regent Park, ending in the iconic Distillery District. Cabbagetown is known for having one of the largest collections of Victorian homes in North America — quiet, tree-lined streets that feel almost frozen in time. From there, we’ll move into Regent Park, where old Toronto meets new in one of the city’s most significant redevelopments. We’ll finish in the Distillery District, once home to the largest distillery in the world, now a vibrant pedestrian area full of brick buildings, art, and atmosphere. This is not a formal historical tour. It’s a social walk with light storytelling, good energy, and lots to take in along the way. 👉 **Don’t forget to join our WhatsApp group** – [CLICK HERE!](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc?mode=ac_t) *** 🚶‍♂️ What We’ll Do We’ll meet outside the subway station and begin our walk into Cabbagetown, wandering through its charming residential streets before making our way toward Regent Park. As we move through the neighbourhood, you’ll see the blend of old and new Toronto — community spaces, modern builds, and the evolution of the area. From there, we’ll continue south toward the Distillery District, where the walk wraps up. You’re free to explore, grab a drink, or head out whenever you like. Please note: there will be some stairs along the route. *** 🌦️ Weather & Expectations This walk will happen in typical April weather — which means anything from sun to light rain. As long as it’s not extreme conditions or heavy downpour, we’ll be going ahead. Be prepared and dress accordingly. Comfortable shoes are important, and layers are always a good idea. Also — this is NOT a guided or formal historical tour. I’ll share context casually, but the focus is on being social and enjoying the walk. *** 🧢 Meetup Details 📍 Meetup Location: Outside the subway station 🫎 I’ll be wearing my Moose Hat ⏰ Meetup Time: 11:00 AM I will only wait 5 minutes. Early is on time. On time is late. We’ll begin promptly, so please plan ahead. Bring your laptop, pen & paper, old-school typewriter, or futuristic writing gadget, and join an enthusiastic community of science fiction and fantasy writers as we work on our current projects in the same space. This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise. We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration. Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team. **YouTube Link** TBD
