šš¬ THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (DRESS UP SINGALONG)
š **A different kind of outstanding... because thereās no crime in giving yourself to this strange journey.**
**šHello, everybody!** Join me for a night of pure, wild fun at **The Rocky Horror Picture Show!** This a cult classic that you really must see for yourself if you havenāt already!
It originally premiered in 1975, **directed by Jim Sharman**. Itās this campy, rock-and-roll sci-fi horror parody, bursting with color and energy, led by the incomparable **Tim Curry** as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. And what really sets it apart is its incredible longevityāpeople still flock to midnight screenings, dressing up, shouting lines, and making it a truly interactive, electric experience. Itās a whole vibe!
Our plan for the evening is exactly thatāweāll be **singing along** and **dressing up!** No pressure on the costumes, but if you do, I promise you, weāre going to have an absolutely fantastic time.
Weāll meet at **Victory House Wine Bar** around **7 p.m**., and then head to one of my favourite cinemas, the **Prince Charles Cinema**. And oh, Iāll be in **seat A6** if youād like to join me there!
**After the show, weāll regroup for a bit more funāand I canāt wait to see you all tonight!**

šš¬ OBSSESION
***š¤ A wish for Willowās love: consent is the first to vanish. When it takes your heart, it devours your soul.***
š **All right you guys!** this one's intriguing. The film premiered last year at the **Toronto Midnight Madness Festival**. It is by the American actor-comedian **Curry Barke**r, known for sketch comedy and YouTube horror. Now, he makes his second attempt as a director, aiming for a wider yet still limited release here in the Uk.
The story follows a music store employee. Heās a hopeless romantic who uses a supernatural novelty toy to make his longtime crush fall in love. Weird, right? But, as expected, such wishes come with dark consequences. My advice: enjoy the movie, but donāt try this at home.
So, it's Friday night drinks at the **Victory House Wine Bar** from **7:30pm**, where weāll be chatting about all sorts of obsessive movie themes. Then at **9:00pm** will be on our way to **Vue Cinema (Screen 8)** where you'll find me in seat **A4,** but you can pick what works for you.
After the film we'll regroup once again for our commentary and **[Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/movieroadhouse/) review.** And, you will find the **full schedule breakdown, ticket info and addresses** **below**, so don't miss out.
In the meantime**, Iād be careful what you wish for š** as it may come true.

OBSESSION (2026) + DRINKS @ VUE
Details on getting tickets for movie + pre drinks below.
**PREMISE**
Over the past year, thereās been a new film on the festival circuit getting a ton of buzz. That film is Obsession, written and directed by Curry Barker (Milk & Serial), and audiences at Overlook Film Festival 2026 finally got the chance to see it on the big screen. A young man makes a wish on a āOne Wish Willowā for one of his best friends to be madly in love with him. When she suddenly expresses feelings for him, what begins as a dream come true morphs into his worst nightmare.
Since Obsession first hit the festival circuit, it has been impossible to ignore all the praise. If youāre at all worried the film has been overhyped, I can assure you with certainty this film not only lives up to the hype, but it might even exceed it. The film introduces audiences to Bear, a seemingly sweet guy who is rather reserved and awkward. He also happens to be in love with one of his best friends, Nikki. When he chokes during his chance to admit his feelings, he instead makes a wish on a āOne Wish Willowā be bought at a metaphysical shop, wishing Nikki would be in love with him. While Bear doesnāt believe in the wish at first, he soon realizes its power when Nikki suddenly professes her love for him. At first, it seems like Bear is finally getting everything heās ever wanted. Yet Nikkiās behavior becomes increasingly bizarre, frightening, and even dangerous. Itās a fantastic, disturbing story that shows how even the ānice guysā are incapable of taking rejection, whil also delivering a classic ābe careful what you wish forā tale. Bear ignores every warning sign because he has the girl of his dreams, even if it means the woman next to him is a hollow shell of the person he supposedly fell in love with. No matter how wild things get, he makes excuse after excuse, constantly putting his own desires ahead of whatās best for Nikki. The premise also has some unsettling implications when one considers Nikkiās actions throughout the course of her relationship with Bear are thanks to a wish rather than her own free will.
On the surface, Obsession is a horror film because of how it depicts modern men and relationships. Even as Nikki becomes a completely different person, Bear is still happy because he has what he has always wanted. It shows that Bear was in love with the idea of Nikki and what a relationship with her would look like rather than actually caring about her as a human being. Obsession takes this even further by adding absolutely terrifying supernatural horrors on top of the more realistic relationship horrors. Barker builds on the terror, weaving in subtle scares and ambiance before shifting into outright disturbing happenings and jump scares. But donāt let the term ājump scaresā deter you. The difference between these scares compared to other horror films is that these scares feel earned. Theyāre the kind of horrific moments that will likely have audiences jumping out of their seat whether itās their first viewing or their tenth. It ensures Obsession will be as frightening to watch years later as it was the first time.

CMG Gives Back: Serve Brunch at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN!
Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, weāll help ācreate a better worldā by helping serve those in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION ā GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission ā Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain youāll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1
week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events!
Should be another good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan
Unknown Number: The High School Catfish
IMPORTANT INFO: I strongly suggest not reading anything about it online before seeing it. It's best viewed with no previous knowledge. This documentary contains crude terminology and deals with cyberbullying, which may be a trigger for some folks.
AGAIN, PLEASE DO NOT EVEN READ ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU SEE IT.
A very unusual choice for his group... Unknown Number: High School Catfish is an American [true crime](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_crime "True crime") documentary film directed by [Skye Borgman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skye_Borgman "Skye Borgman") and released to [streaming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streaming_media "Streaming media") on [Netflix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix "Netflix") on August 29, 2025.
The documentary explores the events and investigation into an unknown person [cyberbully](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberbullying "Cyberbullying") and [harassing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harassment "Harassment") teenagers in [Beal City, Michigan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beal_City,_Michigan "Beal City, Michigan") using an unknown number via insults and sexual claims. It also explores the increasingly great impact of the harassment on the community, the eventual reveal of the culprit, and the trial that followed.
Please be ready to discuss the movie by 7PM. We suggest arriving early enough to order and get food beforehand. Thanks.
Unfortunately, it is only available on Netflix. If you would like to attend but do not have Netflix, say so and maybe we can figure something out.
Jules and Jim, the Book!
By popular demand, the group wanted to read and discuss the semi-autobiographical novel by Henri-Pierre Roche, that inspired the Truffaut movie we watched last year.
The book is available through the Columbus Library's interlibrary loan system. They reported there are twenty-eight copies available in the state of Ohio. If you have a library card, you can file an interlibrary loan request here: https://www.columbuslibrary.org/library-services/ . There are also used copies available on Amazon and eBay for under twenty dollars.
You may want to rewatch the movie after reading the book, so we can compare and contrast in our discussion. The Columbus Library has four copies on DVD, and it's streaming on HBOMax.
