James by Percival Everett
Percival Everett writes a brilliant reimagining of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn told from the enslaved Jim's point of view.
« When Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he runs away until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck has faked his own death to escape his violent father. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond. »
While known as "Jim" to his enslavers, James is a self-educated, articulate man who reclaims his name, "James". He is depicted as simple, credulous, and superstitious, but secretly more literate and erudite than most of the white people around him.

Rave New World: Confessions of a Raving Reporter + AFTER-RAVE @Rockhal
*Apologies in advance for the excessive use of the word “rave” in this event.*
Join us — with intensity and grace — for a hybrid evening that begins with reflection and ends in bass. From a Saturday night discussion about the rave scene to an actual one in the south of Luxembourg.
You’re welcome to attend either one or both:
**20:00 – 22:00 \| Book Discussion @ Creapelle**
“We were one nation united by the groove.”
In 1989, one rave changed Kirk Field’s life. It led him to become a “rave reporter” and witness the UK’s Summer of Love.
We’ll dive into his book *Rave New World: Confessions of a Rave Reporter*, though you don’t need to have read the book... curiosity is enough 😎
You can also watch the documentary beforehand [HERE](https://youtu.be/A-XrlMpwEuM)
**23:00 \| Do You Rave? @ Rockhal Club**
Luxembourg may not be Berlin. But every now and then, she hosts amazing raves and this is one of them!
Join me and Laureena — two passionate ravers — as we move from conversation to groove in *Luxembourg’s biggest hard techno rave!*
Event info & tickets [HERE](https://rockhal.lu/shows/do-you-rave-march/)
Oh! and a gently reminder of the rave essentials:
- Black clothes
- Black shades
- Gum
- Earplugs
- An open mind
- Good sleep (the real super drug😉)

Contra dance with Big Scioty April 11 - Clinton Heights Lutheran church
**Caller: Kim Thompson**
**Band: Full Moon Country Dance Orchestra**
**Clinton Heights Lutheran Church**
**15 Clinton Heights Ave, Columbus, OH 43202**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
