You are welcome to join the Sahaja Meditation Yoga Beginner Class every Thursday. It is an experience definitely worth a try!
Sahaja meditation is a simple, time-honored technique. Meditation is based on connecting with the inner chakras (energy centers) and balancing the subtle body. It helps reduce stress and increase health. It brings better focus and helps us to be more focused and balanced. Sahaja Yoga is scientific and verifiable, because each practitioner can also verify the cause of inner imbalance from his or her own central nervous system (Central Nervous System) and improve it through meditation practice.
According to the founder Shri Mataji , this meditation will make you feel a deep sense of harmony, allowing the thoughts to enter into a state of tranquility, stability, but complete awakening.
Sahaja Yoga Meditation - the gateway to inner peace, joy and enlightenment!
Founder Shri Mataji has been spreading sahaja yoga around the world since 1970 to give en-mass self-realization and teach meditation skills, and all yoga classes and lectures are free of charge. Shri Mataji and we all believe that actualizing self-realization is an innate ability and inherent right for everyone, not, and can not be purchased with money or material. We now have numerous practitioners in over 120 countries around the world.
Beginners or those who are already practising meditation are welcome to come to learn this Sahaja Yoga meditation, which is unique and different from other meditation methods.Intermediate level classes (Thursdays & Saturdays) welcome those who have participated in 4 or more classes and are interested in exploring more in-depth and deeper meditation knowledge.
Hope to see you soon in our class. (except public holidays)

Exploring the Ruins of Fat Tong Chau!
Attention all crew members and potential recruits!
Our next away mission takes us to a location where history and exploration intersect: **Fat Tong Chau (Junk Island)**. While it may no longer be a literal island, it remains a site of immense historical significance, housing the **"Fat Tau Chau Old Customs Station"**—a true relic from Earth’s past.
🖖 Mission Highlights:
* **Ancient Trade Routes:** Long before the Federation, this site was a vital "trading hub" during the Tang and Song dynasties. We will examine the fragmented stone tablet inscribed with *"Contributions from the land of Giao Chi (Vietnam) flow from afar,"* a fascinating piece of 19th-century diplomatic history.
* **Terrain Reconnaissance:** We’ll explore the perimeter of the former island, observing how 1,000 years of maritime history evolved into the modern landscape of the TKO Industrial Estate.
* **The Picard Spirit:** Like Captain Picard’s passion for archaeology, we believe that understanding our past is the key to navigating the future.
Whether you are a seasoned Trekkie, a history buff, or a new recruit looking for adventure, join us as we boldly go where many have gone before—but few have truly *seen*.
**Engage!**
【U.S.S. Hong Kong

The Haunting of Ypsilon 14 at One Shot Saturday (Tabletop RPGs)
**The Haunting of Ypsilon 14:**
During a routine cargo job on a remote asteroid mining base, you learn that one of the workers has disappeared. No blood, no body, no record of the airlock opening. Just gone. And that's not the only unexplainable thing at Ypsilon 14. What is the alien material at the heart of this asteroid? What do the weird events around the base have to do with it? Who, if anyone, can be trusted? And can you make it out alive before you also disappear?
**Demon Castle Dracula: Curse of Eternal Night:**
Count Dracula has awakened from centuries of dreamless slumber to enslave humanity and entomb the world in endless night. As medieval Europe falls to his ravenous armies of undead minions, your heroes—each marked in their own way by the Count’s dark power—join forces for one final, desperate assault on Dracula’s castle, where, powered by the light of the blood moon eclipse, he plans to forge the Nox Aeterna, a mystical artifact of immense alchemical power. If he succeeds, the world will never see another sunrise. Your heroes have fought their way through leagues of monster-infested countryside to arrive at the castle gates just as the sun slips beneath the horizon—perhaps for the last time. HOW DO YOU PLAN TO BREACH THE CASTLE’S DEFENSES AND NAVIGATE ITS PROTEAN CORRIDORS? WHAT ELDRITCH HORRORS AWAIT YOU WITHIN? CAN YOU DESTROY DRACULA ONCE AND FOR ALL?
**The Gilded Cage**
For as long as you can remember, you have lived in the House, a labyrinthine manor that sprawls impossible dimensions. It provides you all you can ever want for - food, clothing, entertainment, company, comfort. You have forgotten who you are and why you're here, but recently you've realised one single truth you've managed to hold on to: you have to leave

WHAT IS A TABLETOP RPG?
It's a game in which you never know where the next stop will be, because it’s all down to the decisions you and your fellow players make. Usually one person is the Game Master (or "GM"). Everyone else will be players, taking the role of the characters in the game. The players get to say what their characters say, think, and do. The GM describes everything else in the world.
Then... we play to find out what happens. The game is a conversation: I say something, then you reply, maybe someone else chimes in. We talk about what's happening to the characters we imagine and the world around them. We also talk about the rules, which help us decide what happens next if the next step is in doubt. The rules differ from game to game: some use dice to shape the story, others use cards or something else. It's always a conversation, though.

Choose Your Movie: THE SHEEP DETECTIVES vs HOKUM at Cinemark Stoneridge!
Join us as we get together to see your choice of two VERY different movies – one sweet and wholesome – the other a terrifying folklore horror! Option 1 is the fun whodunnit-action-comedy-mystery led by Hugh Jackman, THE SHEEP DETECTIVES! Option 2 is the top-reviewed supernatural-horror-thriller starring Adam Scott, HOKUM! Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event:
THE SHEEP DETECTIVES: Every night a shepherd reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand. When he is found dead, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it. The film is directed by Kyle Balda and take a look at this ensemble cast: Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Braun, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau and Emma Thompson and the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O'Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, Brett Goldstein and Rhys Darby. TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyZI5oM6hWk
HOKUM: In this film, a horror writer visits an Irish inn to scatter his parents' ashes, unaware the property is said to be haunted by a witch. It is written/directed by Damian McCarthy stars Adam Scott, Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh and Austin Amelio. Hokum premiered to rave reviews at this year’s SXSW Festival and is being release by Neon. It is earning a stellar 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which calls it, “A classic haunted house story enriched with atmospheric folklore and perfectly-timed shocks!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVCIK_MPyhc
PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing of both films and will meet inside the theater lobby about 20 minutes before showtime. If the showtimes work out, we’ll try to get both groups together for a bite before the shows! Complete details and showtime will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.
Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
Unknown Number: The High School Catfish
A very unusual choice for his group... Unknown Number: High School Catfish is an American [true crime](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_crime "True crime") documentary film directed by [Skye Borgman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skye_Borgman "Skye Borgman") and released to [streaming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streaming_media "Streaming media") on [Netflix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix "Netflix") on August 29, 2025.
The documentary explores the events and investigation into an unknown person [cyberbully](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberbullying "Cyberbullying") and [harassing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harassment "Harassment") teenagers in [Beal City, Michigan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beal_City,_Michigan "Beal City, Michigan") using an unknown number via insults and sexual claims. It also explores the increasingly great impact of the harassment on the community, the eventual reveal of the culprit, and the trial that followed.
IMPORTANT INFO: I strongly suggest not reading anything about it online before seeing it. It's best viewed with no previous knowledge. This documentary contains crude terminology and deals with cyberbullying, which may be a trigger for some folks.
PLEASE NOTE - WE ARE STARTING AT 6:30, WHICH IS THIRTY MINUTES EARLIER THAN USUAL.
Unfortunately, it is only available on Netflix. If you would like to attend but do not have Netflix, say so and maybe we can figure something out.
Fun Friday: THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 at the Drexel Theatre!
Join us for a Fun Friday event as we get together to see the long-awaited sequel to the 2006 original, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2! Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci all return for this follow-up that finds the former assistant is now a rival! Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: The film follow’s Miranda Priestly's struggle against Emily Charlton, her former assistant turned rival executive, as they compete for advertising revenue amidst declining print media. The film is directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna (who wrote/directed the 2006 original). It stars returning cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci along with newcomers Justin Theroux and Kenneth Branagh.
TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9HXmMnUEdE
PLAN: Please purchase your ticket for the 7:00pm showing and meet inside the lobby area between 6:30 and 6:45pm! Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater but early arrival is advised! Be sure to mention you’re with the Movie Group for admission and concession discounts! And don’t miss the best part of the night – immediately after the show, we’ll head to the nearby Rusty Bucket for conversation, food and drinks! Park on Main St, near the Rusty Bucket, or in the lot near Brassica and your car will be close by at the end of the night!
Should be a fun one, Dan
CMG Gives Back: Serve Brunch at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN!
Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “create a better world” by helping serve those in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1
week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events!
Should be another good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan
Duty vs. Results: What Makes an Action Moral?
When judging morality, should we prioritize **intentions/duty** or **outcomes/results**? It introduces two influential philosophers as representatives of these approaches.
* **Immanuel Kant (deontology):** An action is moral when it is done from **duty** and follows rational, universal principles (the **categorical imperative**). Certain acts—like lying—are wrong regardless of the consequences; you can’t do a wrong thing for a right reason.
* **John Stuart Mill (utilitarian consequentialism):** The morality of an action is determined by its **effects**, specifically how much **happiness/well-being** it produces. Mill argues that some pleasures are “higher” than others, and that good intentions don’t redeem harmful outcomes.
## Discussion Questions
1. **The lying dilemma:** A murderer comes to your door and asks if your friend is hiding inside. Kant would say you must not lie.
2. **Can good intentions rescue a bad outcome?**
3. **The organ harvest problem:** A surgeon has five patients dying of organ failure and one healthy patient in for a checkup. Killing the one to harvest organs would save five lives, and the math works out for the utilitarian. Why does this feel so deeply wrong? Is that feeling a point in Kant's favor, or just a bias we should overcome?
4. **Do rules need exceptions?** Kant insists moral rules must be universal, with no exceptions. But most of us can imagine extreme scenarios where any rule seems like it should bend. Does the need for exceptions fatally undermine deontology, or is the strength of the system precisely that it refuses to bend?
5. **Who gets to calculate the consequences?** Utilitarianism asks us to maximize good outcomes, but we're notoriously bad at predicting consequences. If we can't reliably know the results of our actions, is it practical to base our entire moral system on outcomes? Does this uncertainty push us back toward rules and principles?
6. **Everyday morality:** Think about a real moral decision you've made recently, even a small one. Did you reason more like a Kantian (what's the right thing to do in principle?) or more like a utilitarian (what will produce the best result?)? Do most people naturally lean one way?
7. **Justice vs. the greater good:** A town can prevent a deadly plague by sacrificing one innocent person. The greater good is clearly served. But is it just? Can an action be morally right and deeply unjust at the same time?
8. **The big synthesis question:** Are these two systems actually opposed, or do they often arrive at the same answers by different paths? Is it possible that we need both: rules to guide us in the moment and consequences to evaluate systems and policies over time?
