Transportation: the hardware, the wait, the ride
**Transportation of all kinds, just not walking.**
**This week’s theme is getting around**—the cities choreography and human drama of boarding, riding, waiting, parking, squeezing through, loading up, breaking down, **and all the hardware required.**
**We're after wheels of all kinds—transportation, the hardware and hard feelings of this urban experience:** buses, minibuses, bikes, scooters, motorcycles, cars, and everything that comes with them—the queues, doors, climbing in or out hands on rails, bumpers, parking lots, curbside chaos, the beauty and the gore of daily transportation scene.
Wheelchairs count. A kid on a dad’s shoulder counts too.
***
#### **What To Look For:**
#### **Bus Life**
* Double-deckers and minibuses pulling in, idling for the exits and queue, lurching away like a small boat in a big wave.
* Minibuses. Say no more—they're go-carts driven by crazy men. Go ride one and document it.
* People waiting in a queue, entertained in unison with their phones, watching for the route number
* Boarding + exiting: stepping up, tapping cards, squeezing past, jumping off late
* Faces in windows, reflections, pressed hands on glass
* The stop itself: shelters, signage, curb paint, the crowd forming and dissolving
#### **Two Wheels + Engines**
* Bikes and scooters in motion or locked up in clusters
* Motorcycles: riding, filtering traffic, revving at lights
* Parked motorcycles: tight rows, covers, helmets, scratched tanks, chrome + grime
#### **Cars + The Infrastructure Around Them**
* Parking behavior: double-parks, tight squeezes, loading zones, hazards on
* Bumpers and bodywork: dents, tape fixes, scraped paint, polished shine
* People with cars: leaning, cleaning, unloading, waiting, waving someone in, or more likely, looking too smug.
#### **Also In Scope (Any transport besides walking)**
* Delivery vehicles, cargo bikes, sidewalk carts being towed/pushed as part of a transport moment
* Wheelchairs navigating ramps/curbs, getting on/off transit, moving through crowds
***
### **Moments to Hunt**
* The choreography: doors open → line compresses → bodies flow → doors close
* Transfers: the hurried decision, the glance, the sprint, the missed connection
* Crowd physics: who yields, who blocks, who slips through
* Sound made visible: vibration, exhaust heat, motion blur, rain spray, headlight glare
* Beauty + gore: ishiny scooter next to a wrecked bumper; order and mess in the same frame
***
### **How to Shoot It**
* Try from the inside: again, minibuses!
* Use shutter speed deliberately: freeze the step, blur the rush, streak the lights
* Work the edges: hands on poles, feet at the threshold, ticket taps, mirrors, bumpers
* Look for layers: reflections in windows, faces behind glass, overlapping vehicles
***
### **Meet-Up Details**
* **Start: 3:00 PM**
* Location: Jordan Station, Exit A, street level
* Jordan (TWL) Exit A puts you immediately on Nathan Rd and Jordan Roads, good for bus stops, minibuses passing/pausing, queues, boarding/alighting, and it’s a clean launch point to walk west to Canton Road or northwest to Austin Rd for parking, scooters and motorcycles.
*
* **Debrief: 4:30 PM** at: MOBIN
* Located in: [Eaton](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=4f709db2114f009d&cs=1&output=search&q=Eaton+HK&ludocid=3663969110848279377&lsig=AB86z5VzaFZpaOTxe4Bj2CTndz2L&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjTg_6T2cyTAxUhJNAFHXe5MqcQ8G0oAHoECBQQAQ) Hotel
* 380 Nathan Rd, Jordan, Hong Kong
***
### **After the Walk**
* Post 5–10 images.
* Aim for a mix of:
* Waiting / boarding / riding
* Parked / jammed / damaged / polished
* Wide scenes + tight details
The goal: photograph how the city moves because of transportation — and what it does to people (and what people do to it).
Catch the line. Catch the door. Catch the moment it all moves.

Risky Business
...and speaking of breakthrough roles: who can forget the first time we saw Tom Cruise singing Bob Seeger in his underwear? Often considered an updated 1983 version of The Graduate, the movie sparkles with memorable lines and original music. I only regret that I was never told that "Princeton could use someone like Bob..."
See the movie first and join us for some "Cruisin'"
Disc Tues / Choose Your Movie: THE CHRISTOPHERS vs NORMAL at the Gateway!
Join us as we get together for a Discount Tuesday / Choose Your Movie event to see your choice of two great new films! Option 1 (and the one I'll be seeing) is the top-reviewed comedy-drama, THE CHRISTOPHERS! The film is set in the art world and follows the estranged children of a former artist who hire a forger. It is directed by Steven Soderberg, stars Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel and has been earning rave reviews on the indie circuit. Option 2 is the latest action-thriller starring Bob Odenkirk, NORMAL! The film follows a temporary small-town sheriff who uncovers dark mysteries after a local bank robbery. Here are descriptions, trailers and our plan for this event:
THE CHRISTOPHERS: The children of a once famous artist hire a forger to complete some unfinished, long ago abandoned canvases so they'll have a better inheritance when he dies. It is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, Jessica Gunning and James Corden. BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film is earning an excellent 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes where critics call it a “dynamic, emotional and surprising journey” and a “compelling chamber piece that works like intellectual comfort food.” Others call the film, an “incredibly funny, comedy drama with plot reversals that make it feel like it’s on the verge of a thriller!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H79-EqzmdwY&t=20s
NORMAL: This action-crime-thriller follows a man who comes to the sleepy town of Normal, Minnesota to serve as the temporary sheriff. But a bank robbery leads him to a criminal underground reaches throughout the entire town. The film is directed by Ben Wheatley and stars Bob Odenkirk, Henry Winkler and Lena Headey. The film comes from the same team that brought us Nobody and the John Wick series, so expect an over-the-top, action-filled thrill ride! TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rmm-lM33Qw0&t=19s
PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing of both films and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime. Once showtimes are announced, advance ticket purchase is advised (GFC website preferred)! Please list your movie of choice and seat number in the Comments section of this event. Showtimes and complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.
PARKING: Close, convenient parking is available in the nearby garage (located between 9th and 11th, just off High St). Bring your ticket with you and have it validated at the theater and for $2, you’re covered for the night!
Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
City Lights (1931)
In *City Lights*, Chaplin's Little Tramp meets a blind girl selling flowers who mistakes him for a wealthy man. When he learns that an operation may restore her sight, he sets off to earn the money she needs to have the surgery. He also befriends an alcoholic millionaire who only recognizes him when he is drunk. When the blind girl and her grandmother fall behind in the rent and face eviction, he tries working and even enters a boxing competition to raise the money they need.
Regarded as Chaplin's masterpiece, *City Lights* has been ranked on more than seventeen "100 greatest movies of all time" lists. Orson Welles cited it as his favorite picture.
*City Lights* is available for streaming on Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBOMax, Tubi and PlutoTV. The Columbus Library lists three copies on blu-ray and eight copies on DVD. Watch the movie on your own, then join us upstairs at East Market to discuss the film.

CMG Gives Back: Serve Brunch at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN!
Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “create a better world” by helping serve those in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1
week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events!
Should be a good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan
Dinner & a Movie: MICHAEL at Cinemark Stoneridge!
Join us for a fun Dinner & a Movie event as we get together to see MICHAEL + Dinner at CAP City! The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Jaafar Jackson (Michael Jackson’s nephew) as the King of Pop! Early buzz is strong for what should be an excellent musical-biopic! Here are details, a trailer and plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: This biographical musical drama follows the life of Michael Jackson, from his time with the Jackson 5 to his early solo career! Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. Jaafar Jackson (Michael Jackson’s nephew) stars in the title role alongside Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Juliano Krue Valdi, Miles Teller and Colman Domingo.
TRAILER: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbtgEE6rkxw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbtgEE6rkxw)

DINNER PLAN: Dinner immediately following the movie (around 6pm) at nearby CAP City Fine Diner! Seating is limited for the dinner portion of this event, so separate RSVP required. If you plan to join for Dinner AND the movie, please be sure to RSVP in both places.
CAP CITY FINE DINER: This upscale diner from Cameron Mitchell is known its “retro-cool” atmosphere, modern twists on classic comfort food and their “showstopper” desserts! The menu reimagines nostalgic dishes like meatloaf, beef stroganoff, and pot roast with gourmet twists. The menu also offers vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options with lots of apps, cocktails, salads, sandwiches, burgers (including a black bean veggie burger), the most welcome return of their Veggie Plate (with Hummus) and more. Desserts include their 24K Carrot Cake, Coconut Cake and Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pie.
