London's Friendly Book Club's pick for February is **The Bandit Queens** by **Parini Shroff**. Geeta's no-good husband disappeared five years ago. Come and join us on Tuesday evening, 7-9pm for a chill evening of crafting making bracelets. We meet at London Friend office, 86 Caledonian Road, London N19DN. Do you have spare books lying around your home? Do you want to read new interesting books for free while socializing with interesting people? This is the event for you. We will enjoy nice drinks and snacks together at a beautiful lounge bar in London. You can bring your books and exchange them with whoever has the books you want to read. Since this is a Science and Philosophy book club, it would be great for you to bring non-fiction books that are insightful and thought-provoking. If you want to bring fiction books that are scientifically or philosophically insightful, feel free to bring those as well. Since it is a social event, I encourage everyone to make deep meaningful conversations and make new friends. You can come alone or bring your friends with you. You will learn about the tools required for carving, the types of wood and techniques for carving and finishing a simple wooden bird. By following a step-by-step process of carving a 3D object, from the selection of a suitable wood to the final stages of sanding and finishing. Participants will gain knowledge of carving techniques of carving in the round. The course will be taught by experienced woodworker Jon Hall who will provide personalised guidance to everyone, and give them tips and tricks to improve their carving skills. At the end of the day, learners will have a finished wooden bird that they can be proud of and can display in their homes or give as a gift. No prior experience in carving or woodworking is required for this course. Beginners welcome. All necessary materials, including the wood block, the use of carving tools, and finishing supplies, will be provided.

Try this small friendly workshop to jump-start your skills. In this one-day workshop, experienced curtain maker Ian McQueen will teach you how to produce beautiful flowing curtains for any room. Even if you are an absolute beginner and have never used a sewing machine, we will guide you through measuring the window, marking and cutting out fabric to assemble a fully lined curtain with a smart machined pencil pleat header. Everything is explained as we sew along and we will also demonstrate how to interline curtains to make them extra sumptuous and heat-saving. We will also show how to use a triple pleat tape and make hand pleats. The curtain is all hand-sewn with only a minimum of straight machine stitching. Everyone will take home a sample curtain made from one metre of fabric. We have a small selection of fabrics for you to use. All personal protection, tools and materials are included. Suitable for beginners. Enjoyable for everyone.
