Meet Cabell Harris - Entrepreneur, Futurist, Professor
Meet Cabell Harris - Entrepreneur, Futurist, Professor
**Cabell Harris** is always thinking, It’s what he does... Ad Man. Designer. Professor. Entrepreneur. Futurist. Cabell’s career began in Richmond, Virginia. Fortunately, he was in the right place at the right time. Richmond was getting national attention as being one of the few creative hot spots outside New York. He continued building his reputation and portfolio by working for many distinguished companies in New York, Boston, and Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, Cabell founded WORK Inc. as an agency for agencies. He returned to his roots and relocated the agency to Richmond in 1995. Few individuals have worked for more agencies or brands than Cabell. Along with managing WORK, creating ad campaigns, corporate identities, packaging products, publishing books, building apps, and taking his own brands and products to market, Cabell was a professor for over 10 years at the VCU BrandCenter. Today, WORK has evolved into a brand consultancy working directly with clients who need innovative thinking. Cabell has been recognized, multiple times, in every major industry award show including Cannes, the Clios, the One Show, New York Addys, Art Directors Club, Graphis, Athena, Andy’s, British Design & Art Direction, Effie’s, Communication Arts, and over 10 Best of Shows for the local Richmond Addy’s. Various publications have also declared him one of the top creatives in the country. March of 2020 Cabell was inducted into the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame. **WORK Labs** is a creative branding agency located in Richmond, Virginia. Whether we’re creating an advertising campaign that will break through the clutter or bringing our own products to market, we know we are ultimately in the idea business. We publish books. We brew our own beer. We’re designers, writers, strategists, professors and students. And we’re all brought together by one common belief: nothing is more compelling than a smart idea, executed well. **Thnk Collecive** is a lifestyle brand and retail store with curated, unique and consciously sourced products for home, gifts, and self-care: * Home & Living * Wellness & Self Care * Apparel & Accessories * Family & Fun Thnk Collective is located at 4913 Grove Ave, Richmond, VA **The Discussion.** This series of hybrid events is perfect for budding entrepreneurs, experienced executive mentors cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset, early-stage investors, and students exploring innovative product design. At each session, business founders serve as guest speakers share about their career, their firm's business model, as well as the successes and challenges in the product development process. Participants learn from the speakers’ experiences, discuss valuable insights, and connect with other entrepreneurs, students, faculty, and investors. **Logistics.** A light lunch is served, as entrepreneurs connect with one another, learn from peers, and contribute to the conversation: * Friday, January 23, 2026 * 11:30am EST - Coffee & Connection * 12:00pm - 1:00pm EST - Presentation & Discussion No pre-registration is required. Right now, AI is helping people generate new income streams, automate hours of work, cut business costs, streamline operations, 10x productivity, and operate at a level that once required entire teams. You’ll learn how to begin mastering AI to elevate your 9–5 career, optimize your business, and create new income opportunities. You’ll also understand why AI is far more powerful than the casual everyday use you see online. When is Foreign Intervention Justified?
When is Foreign Intervention Justified?
## Details **Location:** **Crimson Whiskey Bar (Downstairs Bar, Not Rooftop)** The purpose of Thinkers and Drinkers is to facilitate casual but meaningful and interesting conversations with other people in a face-to-face setting. The topics cover a wide variety of issues and are different for every meeting. While conversations may get heated at times, we ask that all members be respectful of each other and refrain from personal insults. # **Topic: When is Foreign Intervention Justified?** Just three days into the new year, the US launched an operation that captured President Maduro of Venezuela and brought him back to the US to stand trial. This occurred in a time when most Americans, regardless of party affiliation, are against getting involved in another foreign war, with memories of Iraq still fresh in their minds. While it may be too soon to definitely judge the consequences of this intervention, there are many examples of foreign interventions by both the US and other countries in the last century. Some of which were more successful than others. The US intervention in the Gulf War (1991) to liberate Kuwait is considered to have been a quick, decisive victory that was very popular in both the US and Kuwait itself. Other intervention examples by countries include: * USA invasion of Iraq (*2003-2011*) * Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (*1979-1989*) * French intervention in Mali civil conflict (*2013-present*) * Chinese intervention in the Korean War (*1950-1953*) * Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia to overthrow Khmer Rouge (*1978-1989*) * USA intervention in Vietnam War (*1965-1973*) * Indian intervention in Bangladesh independence war (*1971*) * Cuban intervention in Angola civil war (*1975-1991*) * South African intervention in Angola civil war (*1975-1988*) * Russian intervention in Syria civil war (*2015-present*) * Saudi-led intervention in Yemen civil war (*2015-present*) * USA support for coup in Chile against Allende (*1973*) * Soviet suppression of Hungarian Revolution (*1956*) * USA intervention in Dominican Republic (*1965*) * Turkish intervention in Syria civil war (*2016-present*) # **Questions to Consider** * How much should human rights affect the decision to intervene? * Is intervening based on ideological grounds warranted? * How important is maintaining international law on intervention? * Should we differentiate between direct military action and covert (CIA-like) operations to topple governments? * Should security and economic interests be the deciding factor? **SUPPORT THINKERS AND DRINKERS:** Thinkers and Drinkers International is a registered 501(c)7 nonprofit organization. Come Play Web of Power
Come Play Web of Power
It's true. We're finally getting Web of Power to the table. Web of Power is an area influence game from the year 2000 from designer Michael Schacht. It's been re-printed many times under the names China, Han, and most recently, Iwari. Because it's max of 5 players, I'll also bring along some games from the same amazing era of board games. I'm thinking Carcassonne, Alhambra, and Torres. Also, all of these games don't take super long, so we can play and swap. BGG description of Web of Power: Players struggle for influence over regions of Europe by placing two different type of control markers, Monasteries and Advisors. Monasteries are the basic placement, with the goal of securing a majority in a region or chain of monasteries or even decent points from second place. The placement of the Advisors is more restricted as the total number of Advisors in a region is limited by the majority player's number of monasteries. The game is played in two rounds and is very fast paced.

SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence
SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence
We will be playing **SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence** with up to 4 players. If you have a copy of this game please let me know and I will open the event to more players. All experience levels welcome. Expect the game teach to start promptly within the first 10 minutes. In **SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence**, you lead a scientific institution tasked with searching for traces of life beyond planet Earth. Players will explore nearby planets and their moons by launching probes from Earth while taking advantage of ever-shifting planetary positions. Decide whether to land on their surface to collect valuable samples, or stay in orbit for a broader survey. Additionally, by directing your telescopes to gaze into distant star systems, you may detect traces of alien signals or undiscovered exoplanets, and collect promising data to examine and study back home. Back on Earth, you can invest in upgrading your equipment so you can analyze incoming data more efficiently, boost your telescope signal capacity, or increase your supply of resources—all to expand the scope of your search that could lead to a discovery of extraterrestrial life forms. Find [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsJgjoEYNAY&pp=ygUQaG93IHRvIHBsYXkgc2V0aQ%3D%3D) a how to play video on youtube. Online Masterclass: The Private Lender’s Thrival Guide with Goodwin Yee
(Note: RSVPing here on meetup does NOT reserve your seat. To do that, you’ll need to register at our website, **[HERE](https://www.coreerocks.com/Events.aspx?ID=Online-Masterclass-The-Private-Lender-s-Thrival-Guide-14-1-24-2026)**.) Private lending got riskier in 2025—and pretending it didn’t is how lenders are gonna get burned in 2026. Deals are taking longer to sell. Rents aren’t hitting projections, but expenses are exceeding them. And lenders who relied on loose underwriting, minimal paperwork, and “It’s Ok, I trust you” terms are finding out why those habits only work in hot markets. That’s why we’re hosting this all-day, online workshop **designed for people who are already private lenders—or want to be—and want to protect their money in a slower, flatter 2026 market.** You’ll learn how to evaluate deals, borrowers, and paperwork the right way, how to structure safer loans, and how to deal with troubled loans before they become disasters. This session is open to members and non-members at all experience levels. It’s as little as $47 for members and $97 for non-members (which is CHEAP compared to missing even one payment on a private loan!) if you register by January 22nd. The workshop will be recorded, and all registrants receive the recording, so sign up even if you can’t “be there”. Oh, and there’s a 100% satisfaction guaranteed or your money back. Remember, to actually reserve your seat, you have to go **[HERE](https://www.coreerocks.com/Events.aspx?ID=Online-Masterclass-The-Private-Lender-s-Thrival-Guide-14-1-24-2026)** and register on our website!

Dale Gnidovec, Curator of the Orton Hall Museum of Geology at The Ohio State University, will be presenting a program he has wanted to share with us for a long time: Plate Tectonics. His description of his program: Continents on the move - Nothing in Earth history makes sense without moving continents - it tells us why mountains, volcanoes, minerals, and fossils are where they are. This talk examines the evidence for continental drift, why it was disbelieved, and explains how the more-encompassing theory of plate tectonics was developed and eventually proven. Dale is an energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and very entertaining speaker and this will be another wonderful program by Dale. Hope to see you there! Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. Calling all founders, CEOs, lawyers, doctors, and entrepreneurs to join our special *Founder Edition* of Sip & Read meetup event. We will pair this book with our favorite wine at **Wine on High** and engage in thought-provoking discussions on startup businesses and entrepreneurship, and network with like-minded individuals in a cozy book club setting. *The 5AM Club* by Robin Sharma explores how waking up early and following a structured morning routine can dramatically improve productivity, mindset, and overall life mastery. Through a blend of storytelling and practical frameworks, it teaches high performers how to build discipline, focus, and long-term success by owning the first hour of the day. Come prepared to discuss this month's book. At the end of each book club meeting, we will take next book and venue suggestions from the participants for the next meeting. Whether you are a book lover, women entrepreneur, or a content creator, this event is perfect for sharing ideas and insights with other funders and founders in the entrepreneurial world. Dance with us in the afternoon then you can still go out in the evening! **Sponsor: All Soles Contra and Square Dancing, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd., Columbus OH 43214** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 1:30 - 2:00, followed by dancing 2:00 - 430. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. Please bring your own refillable water bottle.
