Sailing Taster Day - Easter Bank Holiday Monday
Sailing Taster Day - Easter Bank Holiday Monday
***PLEASE NOTE:*** *Signup for our events must be made through the London Sailing Club website, and not via Meetup - [click here to register](https://www.londonsailing.club/Events/Calendar/View?id=202). If you are not already a member of the club you will need to become a full or social member which you can do [by clicking here](https://www.londonsailing.club/Registration/Register?isSlotReAssignment=False).* **London Sailing Club Taster Day - Easter Bank Holiday Monday** Have you been along to one of our socials and heard about our sailing trips, or seen club trips advertised on Meetup or our club's website, but you're not quite sure whether it's for you? Here is your chance to try out sailing with the club without committing to a multi-day trip. We're sure you're going to love it out on the water with us, and will want to come out with us again! Easter Eggs will also be involved, if you need any more persuasion! For insurance reasons all participants in club trips must be adults and full members of the club (annual membership fee is £24). We're confident you will have a great time and will want to come and sail with us again, but we're happy to refund your membership fee if, after your taster day, you decide membership is not for you. Membership benefits include the ability to join sailing trips in the UK, the Mediterranean and other European destinations, sailing skills weekends, lots of varied social events, free online Theory classes, access to our "Take The Helm" coaching programme to help you develop practical skippering experience after obtaining Day Skipper, special discounts on occasional RYA training from accredited schools, and up to 15% discount on bareboat chartering with partner companies. *Taster Day Plan* We will meet at Port Hamble Marina at 9am for introductions and a safety briefing aboard the yacht. Parking is available at the marina. We'll aim to set off before 10am to make the most of a day sailing on the Solent. Depending on the weather and the wind we might drop anchor for lunch, after which we'll make our way back to Port Hamble Marina and be off the boats around 4.00pm. Participants are welcome to stay on for drinks in the marina bar. If getting to Port Hamble by 9am is likely to be difficult, you are welcome to stay on the yacht the night before for an additional £20. Accommodation is in shared double cabins, though if fewer than 3 people request this option you may well have your own cabin. First time sailors may wish to [take a look at our list of FAQs](https://www.londonsailing.club/Cms/Spaces/DEFAULT/FAQs+for+firsttime+sailors) and we also have a [recommended kit list](https://www.londonsailing.club/Cms/Spaces/DEFAULT/Recommended+kit+lists+for+sailing+trips). *Yachts* We have chartered a number of 37ft yachts and will sail with a maximum of six on each. We want everyone to have enough space and a proper chance to be involved in the sailing. If you’re new to yachting, you’ll be pleased to know the boats have heating, hot/cold running water, a bathroom, a kitchen with a fridge, and more than enough electricity to charge your phone! *Skippers & First Mates* The crew will be led by one of LSC's fantastic and experienced skippers and depending on the level of experience on board we may also have a First Mate from the club's Take The Helm programme. *Kit* No special or expensive sailing kit required! Just bring practical footwear and clothing to suit the weather forecast. Lifejackets are provided. Foul weather gear can be hired locally if needed. Don't forget sunglasses and sunscreen and a change of clothes if the forecast suggests it! If you are staying on the boat you should bring a sleeping bag and pillow as no bedding is provided. The marina has shoreside showers and toilets, so you are not restricted to using the more limited facilities on board the boat. *Cost* This is a non-commercial trip run on a shared-cost basis. The cost is £85 per person (not including the annual membership fee for which you pay separately), which covers the yacht charter, fuel, marina fees, lunch, snacks, and soft drinks on board during the taster day, as well as a £5 contribution to the club's Muck Up Fund which allows us to help skippers on club trips manage the risk of accidental damage caused by trip participants. It doesn’t cover getting yourself to/from the trip or any meals or drinks on shore. We ask for the full amount up front to secure your place. Accommodation on board the night before is available separately at an additional £20. Note that, because this trip is being advertised via the London Sailing Club’s platforms, any participant who is not already a full member of the Club (which costs £24 per year) will need to join prior to the start of the trip. We're sure you're going to love sailing with us and will want to come along on more trips, but if you decide that you don't want to sail with us after your taster day we will refund your membership fee. London Sailing Club Terms and Conditions apply.

🚀Moon & Orion Artemis Rocket Rendezvous Stargazing🌕
🚀Moon & Orion Artemis Rocket Rendezvous Stargazing🌕
🌌Ever look up and marvel with insatiable curiosity at the beauty and wonder of the **universe?** That wild sobering thought that somewhere in the chaos of creation - the emergence of life - the universe became **conscious** enough to look back and and not just ask the existential questions but answer them. And now, in our own small moment of cosmic history, as we return to the Moon aboard the most powerful rocket ever built, the **Artemis mission** carries that ancient curiosity forward. Join for the last chance to view the **Orion Nebula** where stars like our Sun were born - through telescope as the manned **Orion spacecraft** reaches its closest approach - a modern lunar rendezvous unfolding above us. 🚀 But there’s more. We’ll also see **Venus,** **Jupiter** along with planet's potential life‑harbouring **moons**, iconic **star fields**, the remnants of supernovae witnessed by our earliest ancestors, **multi‑star systems** reminiscent of the twin suns of *Star Wars* and even **Tau Ceti**, a star hosting two Earth‑like worlds in its habitable zone. All of this under the spring night sky — with drinks, engaging conversation, and good‑natured banter — this April. In between observing - we'll have **drinks and engaging chats** on all astronomy related topics for those inclined: Space exploration \| Fermi Paradox \| Astrobiology \| Cosmology \| paleontology\, \| SETI & Drake Equation for alien civilisations estimates \| exoplanetology etc as well as non space chats and banter too\. No doubt we'll hear the usual jokes we've all heard before\! If those don't make you laugh\, my impersonation of Los Angeles ET will\! 👽 And to help set the mood and make the night feel even extra galactic, I’ll put my DJ hat to play some space‑themed tunes and songs about the stars! You don't need a telescope as you will be able to view through scopes belonging to me and other club members (as long as you behave responsibly and don't temper with expensive equipment). If you have your own telescope/binoculars feel free to bring along and I can help you setting it up if you're a newbie **==== ITINERARY =====** We will meet outside H&I Station in Highbury Islington. After a short wait for anyone delayed, I will escort everyone to our observation point in the local park 5 minutes walk away and brief you in terms of what to expect, observing etiquette, tips, equipment handling and take any questions you have - weather general or astronomy/cosmology related. **After Drinks:** Unless I have a very important 9AM Tue deadline for a unfinished client presentation or something - most of us usually head to a cosy bar for a drink. If so - I will annouce the pub when we leave the park **==== What Can You Expect To See (this time of year)? ====** * Orion Nebula * Jupiter and 4 moons * Meteors * Andromedia Galaxy * Star clusters such as the Pleiades & Owl Cluster etc * International Space station fly by * Binary & tripple star systems (think planet *Tatooine in* Starwars!), * Neptune * Uranuus * Our moon * A look towards the galactic centre of the Mlikyway where that supermassive £22b Labour black hole sits (Sagittarius A) More here from Jodrell Bank Observatory/Astrophysics Centre: [http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/astronomy/nightsky/](http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/astronomy/nightsky/) Guide to viewing the cosmos for beginners: [https://phys.org/news/2018-05-universe-distant-starstips-cosmology-backyard.html#jCp](https://phys.org/news/2018-05-universe-distant-starstips-cosmology-backyard.html#jCp) **===Weather Dependent=====** The event is subject to clear skies forecasts on the night so if on the actual afternoon of the event the weather forecasts looks unsuitable beyond doubt then I will postpone so please check the event status on the day of the event . If this event is still listed here at 5PM on the day, it will be going ahead at the designated day and time! Lucas Skywalker - The Singin, Dancin, DJ-in Astronomer

Bad Girls Book Club April 2026
Bad Girls Book Club April 2026
**Our April novel is: *The Hong Kong Widow* by Kristen Loesch** **This month’s novel blends gothic atmosphere with historical fiction and chilling horror, set against the haunting backdrop of China. The book is 368 pages in print and 10 hours and 42 minutes on audiobook.** In 1950s Hong Kong, Mei is a young refugee of the Chinese Communist revolution struggling to put her past in Shanghai behind her. When she receives a shocking invitation—to take part in a competition in one of the city's most notorious haunted houses, pitting six spirit mediums against one another in a series of six séances over six nights, until a single winner emerges—she has every reason to refuse. Except that the hostess, a former Shanghainese silent film star, is none other than the wife of the man who once destroyed Mei’s entire life. It is promised the winner will receive a fortune, but there is only one prize Mei wants: revenge. Decades later, the final night of that competition has become an infamous urban legend: The police were called to the scene of a brutal massacre but found no evidence, dismissing it as a collective hallucination. Mei knows what she saw, but now someone else is convinced they know what she did. She must uncover the truth about the last night she ever spent in that house—even if the ghosts of her past are waiting for her there. . . .
