Dyslexie Cafe Utrecht
**www.Modernmanhood.nl**

Feed an AI-agentic beast with proper data
In this hands-on workshop we’ll work through four real-world scenarios in Python: finding the minimum viable context for sales questions, keeping frequency signals intact when summarizing support tickets at scale, selecting the right columns for churn analysis on a wide customer table, and extracting structured fields from messy product listings with validation you can trust. You’ll write and discuss code together — practical patterns you can take straight back to work.

⏳ Pastime #5 — The Black Death & the Hanseatic City of Deventer ⚓
For the fifth chapter of *Pastime*, our journey through Dutch history moves into the **14th century**, and this time we’ll explore one of the most fascinating historic cities in the Netherlands: **Deventer**.
📍 Sunday 28 June — 14:00
📍 Meeting point: outside Deventer station
Once one of the most important cities of the Hanseatic League, Deventer grew wealthy through trade along the IJssel river. Salt, fish and goods from all over Northern Europe passed through these streets, shaping a city that still today feels deeply medieval in atmosphere.
During our walk, we’ll wander through narrow alleys, along crooked warehouses and beside the river that made Deventer rich and powerful. But this time, the story we’ll follow is not only one of commerce and prosperity.
The 14th century was also the century of the **Black Death**.
As plague devastated Europe, people searched desperately for explanations: was it divine punishment? Was the world ending? Or was society itself changing?
Through the story of **Geert Groote**, one of Deventer’s most influential historical figures and founder of the *Devotio Moderna* movement, we’ll explore how the plague transformed the way people thought about religion, society and human life itself — changes that would deeply shape European culture in the centuries to come.
This is one of those walks where history suddenly feels very close.
The walk itself is around **5.4 km**, although please note that reaching the actual starting point from the station requires an additional \~20 minutes of walking through the city.
And of course, as always, we’ll end with a well-deserved drink 🍻
After the walk we’ll stop at **DAVO**, Deventer’s best-known craft brewery, founded in 2007 and now famous throughout the Netherlands. Their philosophy is simple but excellent: every beer should respect the “3-pint rule” — after three beers, you should still want another sip.
Whether you love hoppy blond beers, darker stouts or simply good company after a long historical walk, it feels like the perfect place to close the day together.
Everyone is welcome 😊
ArnhemJUG - June meetup
**ArnhemJUG**
We are excited to announce that we are welcomed by TenneT for the June meetup.
Please note that TenneT **requires** all visitors to present a **valid ID** upon entry and that we must provide a list of attendees in advance. For this reason, **we need your full name** as it appears on your ID. If your Meetup username is different from your real name, we'll get in touch before the event to confirm the name on your ID.
Also note that we start 10 minutes earlier than normal, the first talk will start at 18:20
**Agenda**
* 17:00 CET walk-in
* 17:30 – 18:20 Food and drinks
* 18:20 – 19:10 talk: **How we develop and maintain our (12 year old) DDD app** by **Dan Haywood**
* 19:10 – 19:30 break
* 19:30 – 20:20 talk: **AI augmented teams: from tab complete to AI workforce** by **Radek Kowalski**
* 20:20– 20:45 drinks
**How we develop and maintain our (12 year old) DDD app**
We’re a small team (about 2.5 FTEs) but we develop and maintain a big app - it processes €500m invoices in turnover each year, for a €4bn company that owns and operates shopping centres throughout Europe. And it’s a DDD app too … it’s our focus on the domain that allows us to do a lot with, well, not much.
In this talk we’ll try to explain our way of doing things, some of which might be obvious and you’ll know, some of which could be a bit more contentious or surprising. The technology may intrigue you, but the mindset is just as important.
**About Dan Haywood**
Dan Haywood is an independent consultant based in the UK, an ASF member and committer to Apache Causeway. He spends his days either cutting code or advising governments.
**AI augmented teams: from tab complete to AI workforce**
Ten months ago, when Radek and his team launched their project under a tight deadline and limited budget, it seemed nearly impossible. Fortunately, it was 2025—and agentic coding tools were ready to help.
The team embraced these tools as a lifeline, developing a workflow where engineers and AI agents built software side by side. The result: delivery ahead of schedule and within budget.
In this talk, Radek shares how the team’s approach evolved, the practical strategies they developed, and the lessons they learned to overcome constraints in time and cost.
**About Radek Kowalski**
Over a 20+ year career in IT, Radek has grown from software engineer to architect to senior leader—before returning to the trenches to embrace the AI revolution and shape it firsthand. In the past year, he has helped organizations and engineering teams embed AI into both their business and daily workflows.

You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge.
**Abstract**
*Customize the IDE: Building Extensions for Visual Studio Code*
Visual Studio Code is one of the most widely used development environments today, and much of its flexibility comes from its extension ecosystem. Extensions allow developers to customize the editor with new features, integrations, and workflow improvements tailored to their needs.
In this session, we’ll cover what extensions are and the different types available, including full extensions written in TypeScript or JavaScript, along with lighter-weight extensions such as color themes, language packs, language support, code snippets, and keymaps. We’ll also look at practical reasons a developer might create an extension, from automating repetitive tasks to adding custom tooling.
The session includes a hands-on walkthrough of creating a new extension, testing it locally, and understanding the basic project structure. We’ll close with a brief overview of how extensions are packaged and published to the Visual Studio Marketplace and other distribution options.
