Umbraco London Social - NDC London meetup
Hi UmbLondoners,
In honour of [NDC London](https://ndclondon.com/) we are hosting a little get together near the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster, where the event is. The Umbraco folks at NDC will be joining us so it's your chance to talk to some of the maintainers of the project!
If you've never been to one of these types of meetups before, our 'social' events are relaxed, informal evenings. We meet in a designated pub and talk Umbraco, .NET, community activities and more. People are responsible for paying for their own drinks and food (if wanted). We just promise to provide a friendly welcome!
We've chosen The Old Star
66 Broadway
City-Of-Westminster
Greater London
England
SW1H 0DB
Its nearby and hopefully it has no special events on!
Please sign up if you think you'll be joining the fun so that we can ensure that we have booked a space big enough for us!
Hope to see you all there!
While you are here, we need your input to help make Umbraco London better.
Please take a moment of your time to answer a few questions.

Rabble - Fitness Through Games!
A Rabble session is 1 hour of fun and social team games.
Each game disguises high-intensity intervals within the rules, giving you an effective, all-body workout without even realising it.
We play a bunch of different games at each session (like British Bulldog, Capture the Flag, Dodgeball, Frisbee and many more), and every class is different.
Sessions are open to all, no matter your sporting ability. Each game is explained before we start, so there's no need to have played any of the games before.
Come solo or bring friends! And stay at the end for the social part!
Who knew getting fit could be this fun?

It's essential that you book onto sessions via our website, using the link below; due to restrictions on games and preparation times we cannot accept walk-ins, or late arrivals.

In 2019 we started organizing meetups for creators & influencer in Berlin, and we became big fans of the people we brought together and the topics that were discussed. So we expanded to London early 2020, and as the pandemic started, we became a home for creators worldwide.
Now, in 2025, we do our events in multiple cities and countries and are expanding to more and more countries. Wherever we are, influencers & creators connect, learn, and grow. Sometimes creators join us and share insights in lightning talks, and each time we all go home with new, interesting connections!

Friday Strategy Board Games at the Coat and Badge, Putney
Strategy Board Games at the The Coat and Badge, Putney.
**Is this event for you?**
If you have been to a few WLGC events, or are used to playing modern board games with a significant amount of rules, then this event is for you.
If not, please join us at our "Beginner Friendly" event every other week.
This is an event to play Strategy games which range from medium to heavy in complexity and last 2-4 hours, depending on the game. It can take about 15-30min to teach, again depending on the complexity of the game.
I usually advertise which game I am going to bring a few days in advance, as it can be helpful to at least be familiar with the rules. Other gamers may bring another selection of games, so be prepared to be surprised on the day.
Here are more details specifically about the Putney events:
Weāre a friendly, social group that regularly play a range of board games and card games. This event has been running since June 2022 and we have a core group of regular gamers but welcome new members who are looking for a games group to play on a regular or fairly regular basis.
Games we play range from, 30min - 1hour games, to the heavier 2-3hour games. We alternate the weeks we play shorter games versus the longer strategy games (check the event title for which type of games are being played).
Quicker, fun, social games we play:
⢠Just One
https://youtu.be/0DDRxztfJP0?si=QPavmMFE3DFipM-x
⢠Skull King
https://youtu.be/xlFHfCqY-5Y?si=X-U1WLP5JOI0oTcB
⢠Planted
https://youtu.be/BB5mwXFPrUA?si=oLor8WTSpLUs7B12
⢠Project L
https://youtu.be/EFV-qavWUlE?si=41_XhoZQvWs_9Zp2
⢠7 Wonders
https://youtu.be/z_Wfdn5Es8U?si=-L3cLo2Uppdip2ow
Longer, Strategy games we play:
⢠Lost Ruins of Arnak
https://youtu.be/Kg2z4ApABY8?si=l46LNYRjQA_0QoZS
⢠Terraforming Mars
https://youtu.be/n3yVpsiVwL8?si=SW7VCdJpnqErKlIO
We like to start on time but if you do arrive late, donāt worry, it may mean you have to wait a bit until the next game starts, but we always try to accommodate where we can. If it's Strategy games night, it is more important that we start on time as the games are longer and we want to finish on time.
If you know you are going to be late please just let us know your eta.
The event is free but please keep in mind that in order to have the space and run the event on a regular basis we need to purchase drinks/food from the venue.
Also, please donāt sign up and not show up. Not only do you take up a spot for someone keen to play games but we have limited space that we need to reserve with the venue and no-shows jeopardise our relationship with the venue. Thanks for your understanding.
Hope to see you at a games table!!

Join us for another evening at #WPLDN, where we're diving into the heart of what makes WordPress possible and exploring how organisations protect access to information when it matters most.

**Session 1: Beyond hosting: How Kinsta invests in WordPress and Open Source**
**š¤ Speaker:** Marcel Bootsman ([Kinsta](https://kinsta.com/))
The success of WordPress and countless other technologies hinges entirely on the dedicated, often unpaid, work of open-source contributors. But how can companies that rely on this ecosystem ensure its long-term health and sustainability?
Marcel will take us beyond hosting to explore the mission and impact of the Kinsta Community Sponsorship Program. This initiative actively sponsors contributors across various facets of WordPress (Core, documentation, accessibility, polyglots) and other critical open-source projects.
If you've ever wondered how commercial success and open-source citizenship can work hand in hand, this session is for you.
**About Marcel:** Marcel is the Partnerships & Community Manager EMEA at Kinsta. He has been active in the WordPress community since 2010 and ran his own WordPress agency until 2020. A dedicated community contributor, Marcel is (or has been) a WordCamp organiser, forum moderator, and translation editor. When he's not looking at a screen, he enjoys walking, working out in the gym, riding a bike, and playing tennis.
**Session 2: Keeping sites up when stuff goes down**
š¤ **Speaker:** Austin Meakin ([Amnesty International](https://www.amnesty.org/))
What happens when governments or other actors try to take websites offline? Austin works at Amnesty International on the Humanity Open Source WordPress theme and a number of websites running on it. In this session, he'll explore online censorship and surveillance, and what's being done to keep sites accessible when things get complicated.

Contra dance with Big Scioty on Feb. 7 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Dan Kappus**
**Band: Trillium**
**Big Scioty Contra Dance**
**temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like youāve seen in period films such as āPride and Prejudiceā, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. Thatās English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like āswing your partnerā and ādo-si-do,ā like youāve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alĆ” āRiverdance.ā Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THATās Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.

2 Day Real Estate Investing Intensive
**Day 1 ā Foundation & Deal Control**
This two-day, end-of-month Real Estate Investing (REI) Intensive is designed for investors who want real traction, not theory. Day One is about controlling the deal flow. We break down how to find opportunities in todayās market, underwrite them correctly, and avoid the emotional and financial traps that wipe out most new and mid-level investors. Youāll learn how operators are sourcing deals right now, how to analyze markets and properties with discipline, and how to structure acquisitions so the numbers work before you ever swing a hammer. This is about building a repeatable systemānot chasing the next shiny strategy.
**Day 2 ā Capital, Execution & Scale**
Day Two shifts from deals to execution and scale. We go deep on renovation management, capital stack planning, and exit strategiesāfix and flip, buy-and-hold, and hybrid playsāso you understand how to protect downside risk and maximize upside. Youāll see real case studies, real numbers, and real mistakes made by experienced operators, not influencers. The intensive closes by connecting the dots between education and action, showing you how to plug into ongoing coaching, deal opportunities, and higher-level collaboration for investors who are serious about building long-term wealth, not just doing a one-off deal.

Sip & Read: *Founder Edition* Meetup: "The 5AM Club" by Robin Sharma
Calling all founders, CEOs, lawyers, doctors, and entrepreneurs to join our special *Founder Edition* of Sip & Read meetup event. Let's sip on fine wine and discuss our first book **The 5AM Club- Own Your Morning Elevate Your Life, by Robin Sharma**. We will pair this book with our favorite wine at **Wine on High** and engage in thought-provoking discussions on startup businesses and entrepreneurship, and network with like-minded individuals in a cozy book club setting.
*The 5AM Club* by Robin Sharma explores how waking up early and following a structured morning routine can dramatically improve productivity, mindset, and overall life mastery. Through a blend of storytelling and practical frameworks, it teaches high performers how to build discipline, focus, and long-term success by owning the first hour of the day.
Come prepared to discuss this month's book. At the end of each book club meeting, we will take next book and venue suggestions from the participants for the next meeting.
Whether you are a book lover, women entrepreneur, or a content creator, this event is perfect for sharing ideas and insights with other funders and founders in the entrepreneurial world. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to connect, learn, and grow together. Sign up now to reserve your spot!
*Fun fact! This meetup was established in 2015 and had over 1,000 members. I had to shut down operations while attending law school, but we're back!!*
