First meeting of London "What do we want as a Sustainable Planet?"
The world is in crisis and many people think we've gone past the tipping point and the planet is doomed.
However, there are those who have hope and faith in science that some can survive the polycrisis and get to live in a sustainable society and planet.
But there's a problem... **There's no clear vision of what a sustainable society and planet should be**, and without that destination, how can we set out on the journey to get there?
Please join like-minded people to discuss this. We'll agree an agenda at the start of the meeting.
Bring an open mind, suggestions and perhaps a pad of paper.
**Here are some topics to be covered.**
Please use the comments/chat to suggest other areas for consideration
*Depending on the mood of attendees, the frequency of further meetups can be agreed.*

ยท Access to healthcare, hygiene and sanitation for all
ยท Access to quality education for all
ยท A more responsible system of financial structures which embraces the best of co-operative production, capitalism and other systems
ยท A safe justice system for all
ยท Societies which respect for the diversity of opinion, ethnicity, sexuality, religion
ยท Respect for the natural resources and fragility of Planet Earth and their finite capacity
ยท Societies where the more fortunate, stronger and healthier help those less strong, less fortunate or less healthy.
ยท Peaceful co-existence between the varying communities of the planet
**What Freedoms ?**
ยท Freedom to travel anywhere
ยท Freedom to worship (should there be limitation such as worship should not be based on destroying the existing systemโฆ??)
ยท Freedom from violence
ยท Freedom from hate
ยท Freedom from poverty (how define?)
ยท Freedom of speech
ยท Freedom from anxiety about the future
ยท Freedom from concentration of power
ยท Freedom to preserve culture and arts

**Course:** Textile Repair workshop: Patching โ Sashiko, Boro, Appliquรฉ โ 1 day
Demystify the art of sashiko along with other patching techniques used to mend and alter clothing or accessories.
Sashiko is a traditional Japanese technique which transforms mends into visually striking additions to your well-loved clothing using repeated stitches. Translated to โlittle stabsโ, the craft originated 400 years ago as a means to preserve clothing and embrace damage through creative stitch patterns.
If youโve ever wanted to try your hand at this practical, yet aesthetic mending technique but didnโt know where to start, this is the perfect course for you.
During the course, you will learn about the tools and materials necessary to start your mending journey as you are guided through a range of techniques which include sashiko and appliquรฉ by experienced textile artist Selina Latour. You will learn other patching methods using hand stitch techniques used in patching such as herringbone, whip, slip and blanket stitches.
Bring along a piece of clothing or two to practice the new techniques on and mend throughout the day!
