From Reading to Recommending - an Introduction to NarraLune by Stefanie Wedel
As a lifelong bookworm and serial note-taker, our speaker Stefanie spent years collecting insights from literary podcasts, magazine previews, and personal reading lists. Things got even more interesting with the discovery of reading challenges, such as *“read a book with over 500 pages”* or *“a book featuring magical creatures that aren’t dragons.”* The result of trying to organize all of this? **NarraLune** — a Python-based application designed to connect a curated book database with an intelligent matching framework. In this talk, we’ll explore how NarraLune: * Uses structured SQL filtering to manage and query book data * Applies genre inference to enrich metadata * Integrates generative language models to recommend books for diverse and creative challenge prompts Stefanie will walk us through the concept and architecture of the system, share practical insights into Python and AI integration, and reflect on how personal interests can evolve into meaningful technical projects. No coding knowledge is required to follow the talk This meetup will take place in the reading room (Lesesaal) of Zentralbibliothek Zürich. **Agenda** 18:00 Arrival 18:15 Talk and discussion 19:15 Wrap up All genders welcome! ## **Decoden Workshop – Design your own charms & accessories** The **Decoden Workshop** offers you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a playful and creative world and design **your own Decoden charms and accessories** . Decoden is a decorative technique that uses a creamy glue, colors, and cute charms. This results in unique designs that are both creative and individual. In the Decoden Workshop, you can **customize various objects according to your own style** . A selection is available. * **picture frame** * **cases** * **Handheld mirrors & table mirrors** * **jewelry box** * **hair clip** You decide which object you want to decorate and how playful, colorful, or minimalist your design should be. Each piece is unique and reflects your personal creativity. A major advantage of the Decoding Workshop is its **flexible duration** . You'll need approximately **15 to 30 minutes** per item , depending on the level of detail and design. This makes the workshop suitable for both short creative breaks and longer crafting sessions. You can also create several objects in succession if you'd like to try out different designs. The **price starts at CHF 32 per item** . Included in the price are **one paint color and 20 charms** . 2 for 1 DEAL: Punch Needle in Central Zürich
2 for 1 DEAL: Punch Needle in Central Zürich
In this **Punch Needle workshop,** you'll transform simple threads into unique works of art. Punch Needle is a modern yet relaxing embroidery technique where loops are created in the fabric using a special needle. This results in textured, soft surfaces and impressive patterns. This workshop offers the perfect opportunity to learn Punch Needle or to bring your creative ideas to life – no prior experience necessary. At the beginning of the Punch Needle workshop, you'll receive an **introduction to the basics of the technique** . I'll explain step by step how the punch needle works, which materials are used, and what you should pay attention to while stitching. You'll learn how to guide the thread correctly, create even loops, and neatly execute your design. The calm, repetitive movement of punch needle is particularly relaxing and perfect for unwinding from everyday life. In the workshop, you have **two creative options** to choose from. The first option is to select an **existing template** . These designs are especially suitable for beginners and guide you step-by-step through the embroidery process. You can concentrate fully on the technique and learn how to create a punch needle artwork from start to finish. The second option is for those who **want to unleash their own creativity** . You can design your own pattern and then embroider it yourself. Whether simple shapes, patterns, lettering, or a free-form motif – you decide what you want to create. Here, too, you will receive individual guidance and support in planning and executing your design. Throughout the entire Punch Needle workshop, you will **receive personal, step-by-step guidance** . It's important to me that all participants feel comfortable and can work without pressure. Questions are always welcome, and I'll help you find solutions if something doesn't work right away. The goal is to work with enjoyment and create a result you can be proud of. All **materials are included in the workshop** . You'll receive the punch needle, fabric, frame, and a selection of threads in various colors. You don't need to bring anything except your creativity and enthusiasm for crafting. At the end of the workshop, you'll take your hand-stitched artwork home – ideal as a decoration or a personal gift. **How long?** 1-2 hours **For whom?** The Punch Needle Workshop is **suitable for everyone** . Both children and adults are welcome. The course is aimed at beginners, but creative people with some experience can also gather new ideas and refine their technique. Punch Needle is easy to learn and offers quick results, which makes the workshop particularly motivating. If you feel like trying something new, unwinding creatively and creating a work of art with your hands, this **Punch Needle Workshop** is just right for you.

Casual Boardgames - make friends, then beat them in games
Casual Boardgames - make friends, then beat them in games
Welcome to Casual Boardgames, where we enjoy classic tabletop games and social deduction games while bonding over good food, drinks, and great conversations.
We started this group to meet new people and make new friends, and bonding over games in a relaxed atmosphere is a great way to do that. We currently meet near route 23 and Polaris Parkway, and this is close to areas like Powell, Lewis Center, Worthington, and parts of Westerville and Columbus.
Feel free to bring your own games or play one of the many games our members bring. If you are inexperienced, we will help you learn.
Here are just a few examples of the kind of games we play.
Tabletop/board games: Splendor, Catan, Azul, Dominion, 7 Wonders…
Social deduction games: Code Names, Chameleon, Werewords…
IMPORTANT:
1. While we love playing a variety of games and competing, we are not just about the games. We interact and talk while playing, and this leads to a lot of laughter and fun. If you just want to compete and focus solely on the game, then this is probably not the group you are looking for.
2. Many people join groups like this and never (or rarely) show up after weeks or months. If you join and never really come, we will eventually remove you from the group as a courtesy to our members. Why? Because limiting group conversations (on the app) to regular members makes communication and planning much easier. Also, while it may be rare, it protects members from people who join because they are interested in following a person instead of having a real interest in our group. If you get removed, it is just because you haven’t come, and we follow this protocol as a courtesy to our regular game players.

The Forge does have a full bar and kitchen. There is no cover charge but they do request all attendees to purchase a minimum of ~$20 per person. Soft drink refills are $1 each. Please support our hosts so we can continue to provide great events for the group! The Forge has a large library of games available for us to enjoy. Hosts and regulars will also provide numerous popular games but please bring any games you would like to teach and/or play. Doors open at 6, and we expect gaming to be rolling by around 630. Please promptly end your games and clear out the space at 10pm when the bar closes. We encourage socializing but do not permit disruptive behavior of any kind. Thank you for your continued commitment to providing a fun and welcoming space to veteran, newbie, and rookie gamers in the Columbus area. Parking can be challenging. There is a parking lot behind the neighboring Mexican restaurant that is free and easy to walk from but it's a bit hidden.
