**š Carpooling Makes It Happen**
At Social Hikes Australia, carpooling is a big part of what makes our hikes possible. Every extra seat means another person gets to join. Fewer cars, easier logistics, and a more social, fun start to the day.
Carpooling is also a great way to meet people before the hike even begins, share a few laughs, get to know each other, and arrive together. Itās simple, social, and one of the best parts of the experience šæ
š” Carpool tickets are offered at a discounted price to encourage drivers to offer seats and make the hikes accessible for everyone.
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
š **For Drivers**
If youāve got spare seats, offering a lift makes a big difference. It helps others join, reduces parking stress and makes the ride more enjoyable from the start.
š **For Passengers**
Passengers are to contact drivers directly using the details provided in the carpool sheet (linked at the top of the description). The sheet shows information from carpooler tickets (Drivers Offering Seats).
⨠**Best practice:** Try to organise your ride before purchasing a ticket to avoid last-minute stress.
**Please note:** Drivers and passengers should stick to the arrangements they make. We do not recommend swapping drivers or cars after youāve agreed on a ride. If you do decide to change, please make sure all parties are clearly informed and agree to avoid confusion.
If a driver forgets, gets mixed up, or doesnāt pick you up, Social Hikes Australia (and your driver) are **not liable** for any inconvenience caused. For this reason, it is best to keep things simple with the driver you first arranged with.
ā ļø **Important Notes**
* Please stick with the carpool arrangement you agree on.
* Avoid swapping drivers unless everyone is clearly informed and agrees.
* Petrol, parking, and other costs are not included in the ticket price. These should be agreed directly between the driver and passengers.
* Social Hikes Australia is not responsible for any issues with private carpool arrangements.
š **Pick-Up Info**
Drivers will share their preferred pick-up locations, such as major CBD train stations like Parliament, Richmond, South Yarra, Southern Cross, or North Melbourne.
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
**𤩠Why Join?**

š½ļø **Food Arrangement**
After our hike, we love keeping the good vibes rolling with a meal together. Weāll suggest a cafĆ© or restaurant thatās usually on the way back toward the city**,** so itās easy for everyone and avoids extra driving.
Itās always a highlight of the day swapping stories from the trail, sharing laughs, and getting to know your fellow hikers even better over some good food.
Joining is optional, but most people stick around because itās such a fun way to finish the adventure. Everyone just covers their own meal, and weāll confirm the spot in the Instagram group chat on the day.
When booking, youāll be asked if youād like to join: Yes / No / Not Sure. The organisers will confirm the restaurant or bar on the day, based on feedback.
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-

**š§ Rain Policy**
If the forecast shows over 15 mm in 6 hours or 20+ mm during the day, we may postpone or adjust the hike to keep things safe and enjoyable. Slippery trails, flooding, and poor visibility are no fun or safe.
Weāll also reschedule for thunderstorms or if trails are still soaked from heavy rain the days before.

Some questions that may be covered during the session:
* Is memory a record, a reconstruction or a story?
* When should we trust our memory? Is vividness reliable?
* Are you the same person as your teenage self?
* Can you genuinely remember something that never happened?
* Does memory make us the same person over time?
* Is nostalgia a form of truth or distortion?
* Can forgetting be a virtue?
* What should societies remember, and what should they let go?
* Would you choose to have perfect memory if it were offered to you?
* When we wake from a dream, are we remembering an experience or partly constructing a story after the fact?
* Are emotions in dreams real emotions or only simulations of emotions?
Hope to see you there!

June Book Club Meetup: The Hollow Half by Sarah Aziza
Join us for a discussion of ***The Hollow Half: A Memoir of Bodies and Borders* by Sarah Aziza**
Here's the summary:
With the lucidity of a poet and the precision of a journalist, Sarah Aziza embarks on a quest to understand her family legacy, tracing three generations of diasporic Palestiniansāfrom Gaza to the Midwest to New York City, and beyond
In October 2019, Sarah Aziza, daughter and granddaughter of Gazan refugees, is hospitalized for an eating disorder. This brush with death becomes a rupture which brings both her personal and ancestral past into vivid presence. The hauntings begin in the hospital cafeteria, when a cup of apricot yogurt stirs the taste of Sarah's childhood, summoning the familiar voice of her deceased Palestinian grandmother. In the months following, as she responds to a series of ghostly dreams, Sarah unearths family secrets that force her to confront the ways her own trauma and anorexia echo generations of Palestinian displacement and erasureāand how her fight to recover builds on a century of defiant survival, and love.
As silences break, heartbreak opens onto possibility. Sarah begins to grasp the ways her legacies echo and inform one anotherāthrough tragedy, and through love. She begins to resist the forces of assimilation, denial, and patriarchy, learning to assert herself in new ways that honor both her ancestors and herself.
Weaving timelines, languages, and genres, The Hollow Half probes the contradictions and contingencies that create āhistory.ā This stunning debut memoir ends in a cri de coeur for a world in which every body has a right to contain multitudes.
**Letās meet at Caboose Commons in Fairfax to enjoy some good discussion and meet new friends.**
Vienna Writer's Group
Attention Vienna and Vienna-adjacent writers! Let's carve out a lil' bit of time each week for our passion at a cool place with good creative vibes: Caffe Amouri. I would like this group to focus on getting our creative work done, with a bit of socializing and shop talk thrown in too. We will carve out a little bit of time for critique also -- but that won't be the main focus (I find that when people feel obligated to read and critique they tend to blow off meetings if they haven't had time to read). Together we can set goals for helping each other (will set up some sort of Google doc upload system for those who want direct feedback). This is the very first meeting -- a "pilot episode" if you will -- to see if there's interest, so if you are interested, make sure ya show up!

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Physics of Baseball
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **āThe Physics of Baseball,ā** with Scott Paulson, professor of physics and interdisciplinary liberal studies at James Madison University.
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-physics-of-baseball](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-physics-of-baseball) .]
Profs and Pints is offering baseball fans an even bigger treat than Cracker Jack, an exploration of the physics underlying their beloved sport.
Professor Scott Paulson, who regularly teaches introductory physics classes that make the physics behind real-world phenomena accessible to all, will discuss the forces and phenomena that come into play in baseball during pitching, batting, and fielding. Heāll toss you basic physics concepts that help explain how baseballās routine plays got to be that way, and heāll explain whatās going on in some situations where the laws of physics seem to be violated by whatās happening on the field.
Ever wondered why curveballs curve or knuckleballs behave so strangely? Youāll learn how Newtonās laws and the Magnus force explain how pitchers get drastically different results from subtle differences in their releases.
Curious about what exactly the āsweet spotā of the bat is? Ever wondered how big an advantage batters get from the thin air of Mile High Stadium? Weāll explore the physics of the batted ball, examining the phenomena of waves and analyzing the interaction of ball, bat and batter with the help of high-speed video.
During one of the more exciting scenarios in a baseball gameāthe close play at the plateāfans often see outfielders throw to an infielder rather than directly to home. Weāll look at the pros and cons of this relay play, known as a ācut-off,ā in the context of the physics of projectile motion.
Finally, we will also look into high-profile cheating scandals involving corked bats and doctored balls. Dr. Paulson will present models to explain how these alterations to the equipment can benefit the batter and pitcher respectively, and heāll discuss how much these models are backed up by data.
These few hours in a brewpub will forever enhance your enjoyment of time at the ballpark. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. The talk starts 30 minutes later.)

# Background ā Writing & Reinvention Journey
Writing has been one of the most powerful tools in my own reinvention journey.
What began as reflections during a difficult life transition gradually evolved into published books and a growing body of work focused on reinvention, personal growth, and life transitions.
My goal is not just to write books ā but to help others realize that their experiences may also hold stories worth sharing.
