Lets Hello World: n8n (In-person and Online)
A hands-on session exploring n8n, the open source workflow automation tool. We will install it, build a simple automation, and experiment with connecting services and local AI models.
**About the Event**
Letโs Hello World is a simple idea. We pick an open source tool and begin.
Not a deep dive. Not a polished workshop. Just a focused session to install it, try it, and build something small together.
The goal is to get past the hardest step: beginning.
**n8n**
n8n is an open source workflow automation tool that lets you connect services, APIs, and scripts into repeatable workflows.
During this session we will:
\- Run n8n locally
\- Explore the interface
\- Build a basic workflow
\- Connect to at least one real service
No prior experience required. If you have been meaning to try n8n but have not made the time, this is your chance.
Bring a laptop and curiosity.
Time: from 1PM to 3PM

Is equality compatible with excellence?
**PLEASE NOTE RECENT LOCATION CHANGE & ATTENDANCE FEE!**

There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged.
Find below some questions to consider, however these are free-ranging events and the below serve as a springboard for the discussion.
\- Equality of what \- outcome\, opportunity\, dignity\, status\, political power?
\- Excellence in what \- occupation\, sport\, art\, moral character?
\- Is excellence inherently hierachical?
\- Is it fair that some children get enormous advantages \(mostly non\-financial\)?
\- Does meritocracy fairly reward talent\, or does it entrench advantage?
\- Can democratic equality coexist with technocratic expertise?
\- What have philosophers had to say about this topic \(Nietzsche\, Rawls\, Sandel etc\)?
\- What do the experiences of other countries reveal about this topic?
\- Are the solutions different for children and adults or if we are thinking on a 20 year time frame\, not this year?
\- Can a society maximise equality and excellence at the same time\, or must one give way?
Volleyball Training and Games - Intermediate - B Level (SNHC)
Welcome to Melbourne Volleyball Academy! ๐ค
**[[WHAT]]**
This session will be broken into 2 halves, 1st half is training and the 2nd half is games. Please arrive on time as we will start exactly at 5:30 PM.
Our intention is to have this training be the 'next step' after our beginner-level training at North Melbourne Community Centre.
We will be focusing on learning what specific roles on the court entail, improving 'volleyball IQ', breaking bad habits, and building better techniques.
**[[WHERE]]**
The session will be held as State Netball Hockey centre.
Please enter via the main entrance (the entrance with the larger parking lot), we will be on Court 3 & 4, please ask the person at the front desk if you need directions.
**[[WHO]]**
The training is intended for social volleyball players at the intermediate level or 'B' level (for more details on volleyball levels, please visit our site here: https://melbournevolleyballacademy.com.au/skill-levels-explained).
Players are expected to:
* pass freeballs and serve receive consistently
* have some knowledge of 5-1 (1 setter all around) or 6-2 (back row setter only) systems
* help others and have good sportsmanship
If you are a high intermediate (BB) or advanced player (A) you are more than welcome to join but you may find our open play sessions for BB/A level players more suitable.
For players that are at the beginner level, we suggest attending our training on Fridays at North Melbourne Community Centre 6-9PM as beginners may find the drills and level of play too difficult.
Players will be asked to attend a different session if their play is deemed unsafe or if they are not of the appropriate skill level.
**[[HOW MUCH]]**
$21 card payment will be collected on the day via square (EFTPOS) payment.
**[[WHEN]]**
The stadium is booked for 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM. However, feel free to come early and stretch as the stadium is open earlier.
**Last-minute dropouts and no-shows will have a zero-tolerance policy going forward.**
All players are expected to **update their RSVP at least 24 hours** in advance if they are unable to attend. This applies to players on the going list and the waitlist.
**[[THINGS TO BRING]]**
We ask that you bring:
* Water bottle
* Appropriate footwear for indoor court shoes - netball shoes, volleyball shoes, or basketball shoes would be suitable.
* Wear contacts or sports glasses if possible.
**[[OTHER DETAILS]]**
Only those on the โgoingโ list are permitted to play. If you are on the waitlist, or not registered at all, you will not be permitted to play.

This meetup is a beginner-friendly, hands-on workshop focused on building shaders in Unity using Shader Graph. Instead of slides or theory-heavy lectures, we'll build real shaders together step-by-step.
The format is structured but interactive. You'll watch a quick demo, then build each shader yourself with guidance. By the end, you'll have created multiple shaders you can immediately use in your own projectsโand understand how to make more.
**What to Expect:**
* Build 4โ5 complete shaders from scratch
* Color tints, snow accumulation, scrolling water, dissolve effects, and more
* No prior shader experience required
* Checkpoint files provided if you fall behind
* Resources for continued learning
All experience levels are welcome. Whether you've never opened Shader Graph or just want to fill gaps in your knowledge, this is a supportive space to learn by doing.
**Food and drinks provided. Join us to learn, build, and level up your shader skills.**
