Join us as we open the door to freedom of expression using improvisation. On the 3rd Monday of every month guitarist, teacher and artful improviser Luke Chohany takes students a deep dive into spontaneous music-making. This class is about listening, finding the pocket, managing space, improvising, and playing well together. Students will have an opportunity to play with others on a variety of instruments and learn how those instruments can fit together successfully in a cooperative and supportive setting. Each month Luke will bring new techniques and concepts in improvisation to help students develop their own style and expand their improvisational language. This 1962 historical fiction novel, about the life and last days of the titular Artemio Cruz, is considered a milestone of the Latin American Boom that brought us writers such as Mario Vargas Llosa and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It explores the corruption of Cruz, a former soldier in the Mexican Revolution, by power. Interestingly, the structure of the book is heavily influenced by "Citizen Kane," with Fuentes attempting literary versions of such film techniques as cross-cutting, closeups, and deep focus.

Blending Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as bomba, currulao, and cumbia, and Gabriel García Márquez’s magical realism, Aguardiente is a bold new musical about the messy, urgent act of making art in a world on fire. As a group of artists race to finish a new show, their rehearsal room becomes a battleground of ideas, ambition, and lived experience—especially for a composer whose undocumented status makes the dream of success anything but simple.
