Mark your calendars for our upcoming **PyData Amsterdam meetup on** **Thursday, June 4, 2026**! We are heading over to **Company.info** for an evening dedicated to the gritty reality of scaling data infrastructure and applying rigorous engineering to MLOps.
As data platforms grow, so do the bottlenecks. This edition is all about tackling those growing pains head-on. We are going to look under the hood of high-performing data teams to see how they keep their pipelines fast, reliable, and organized at scale. Expect real-world case studies on slashing integration test times during a complex Databricks migration, alongside a deep dive into enforcing architectural standards across sprawling dbt projects using custom Python-based linters.
If you build, maintain, or scale data pipelines, whether as a Data Engineer, ML Engineer, or Data Scientist, this session will equip you with actionable strategies to optimize your daily workflows and tame architectural chaos.
Ready to level up your engineering toolkit? Join us for an evening packed with hard-earned technical insights, great food, and excellent networking with the Amsterdam data community!

Talk 1 : **Scaling our Integration Tests Workflows in Databricks**
*By* Douwe Oosterhout
Talk Summary:
As the number of workflows grew, so did the time spent waiting for integration tests to finish. What started as a minor inconvenience gradually became a significant bottleneck, directly impacting our team's development velocity and ability to ship changes quickly and confidently.
When it became clear that the status quo was no longer sustainable, we knew we needed a smarter approach; one that could scale alongside our growing codebase without sacrificing reliability. In this talk, we'll walk you through how we dramatically reduced integration test runtimes, making our feedback loops faster and our developers happier. The journey wasn't without its complications, however. Our efforts were made more challenging by the fact that we were simultaneously migrating our traditional workflows to Databricks Asset Bundles, an extra hurdle that forced us to adapt our approach along the way. We'll share how we navigated both challenges at once and what we learned in the process.
Bio:
Douwe Oosterhout is Lead Data Engineer at Company.Info. He is the technical team lead of the Dutch Organization team, which processes a significant part of Company.Info's data. Besides building pipelines, he also works on making the data platform more accessible for others.
Talk 2 : **dbt-bouncer, a linter for dbt projects**
*By* Pádraic Slattery
Talk Summary:
As dbt projects continue to grow in size and complexity it is becoming increasingly common for each organisation to have its own conventions, standards and ways-of-working. But how can these conventions be maintained as the dbt project continues to expand? Does chaos reign or can we use our engineering knowledge to maintain our conventions? This talk explores the use of dbt-bouncer, an open-source Python CLI that aims to allow dbt developers to encode and configure their own dbt conventions.
Bio:
Pádraic Slattery is the Lead Field CTO at Xebia Data working in analytics, data engineering and Business Intelligence development across various industries. He helps clients at Xebia Data deploy data platforms, onboard business use cases, and improve employees' data literacy. His main areas of interest are DataOps and building robust data ingestion pipelines.

We’re hosting another panel discussion—but this time, we’re talking about the elephant in the room that nobody likes to bring up!
**Let's be completely honest: managing data incidents and building on-call rotations isn't sexy.** It is not a shiny new framework, it is not a trendy buzzword, and it definitely does not bring back fond memories. Instead, it usually reminds us of stressful 3 AM pages, silent pipeline failures that went unnoticed for months, and tense debates over who actually "owns" a broken dataset.
**Because it is messy and stressful, companies rarely talk about it openly.** But at this event, we are finally pulling back the curtain. **We will go behind the scenes to see how different companies actually handle production data failures in real life,** so you can bring practical tips and hard-won strategies back to your own team.
***
### **Some of the things we’ll cover:**
* **Defining the mess –** Drawing the line between a minor data quality issue and a true incident, and deciding who actually owns the fallout when pipelines and models break.
* **Detection, observability, and the role of AI –** How teams spot silent failures, combat alert fatigue, and how emerging AI tools are actually being integrated into incident detection and management.
* **The honest reality of being on-call –** A look at how rotations are structured, how teams handle escalation paths, and a candid discussion on on-call burnout in data teams.
* **Response, recovery, and blameless culture –** What happens in the first 30 minutes of an outage, how to rebuild stakeholder trust, and how to run postmortems that lead to lasting, systemic changes.
***
### **🎤 Meet Our Speakers**
We’ll hear from three data professionals working in very different industries, each bringing their unvarnished stories of production data failures—and what they learned from them.
* **Rodel van Rooijen –** VP Engineering, Data & AI **@Palm**
* **Katalin Nagy –** Data Platform Engineer **@Adyen**
* **David Robinson Hayes –** Senior Manager Data & ML Engineering **@Catawiki**
**🎙️Moderator: Başak Tuğçe Eskili -** ML Engineer **@[Booking.com](http://booking.com) &** Co-founder **@Marvelous MLOps**
***
### **Why Attend?**
* **✨ Get the unvarnished truth:** Hear the behind-the-scenes stories and painful mistakes that are usually kept quiet.
* ✨ **Go beyond the hype**: Skip the slide decks and join an open, practical conversation about what works and what doesn't.
* ✨ **Bring home actionable tips**: Walk away with concrete strategies to improve your team's alerting, on-call setup, and incident response.
***
### **🍕🥤 Practicalities**
* **✔** Drinks & Pizzas (yes pizzas 🍕!!) provided
* **✔ IN-PERSON ONLY** (Because real, honest conversations about stressful topics are best had face-to-face!)
* **✔** The panel will open into a broader discussion with everyone attending—your own stories, questions, and 3 AM nightmares are highly welcome!
**🚨 Limited Spots Available!** To keep the discussion interactive, space is limited. RSVP now to secure your seat.
We look forward to seeing you there! 🚀

The Human Side of Code & The Silent Failures of AI
We are thrilled to welcome you to our 10th edition of the AI Native Netherlands, hosted at the [Yuma](https://www.weareyuma.com/en) headquarters in Amsterdam.
This edition is capped at 120 attendees. Yuma's office has limited space, so once the 120 seats are filled, registration closes and additional signups move onto the waitlist.
A massive thank you to our host, Yuma, for their generosity in providing the venue, food, and drinks for this evening and for supporting the Dutch AI engineering community.
**We'll cover:**
* What humans still bring to software building when AI is writing the code
* Tackling technical and social complexity inside distributed, fast-moving systems with legacy at the core
* How to evaluate AI agents in production and catch silent regressions in under an hour
* What "AI Native infrastructure" looks like in the wild: prompt changes, harness updates, RAG documentation, model swaps
**Speaker 1: [Nico Krijnen](https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicokrijnen/) ([Yuma](https://www.linkedin.com/company/weareyuma/))**
An explorer at heart, Nico loves to navigate the ever changing technology landscape and find practical solutions to complex problems. For a big chunk of his career, he disrupted the DAM space by building an innovative file management solution called Elvis, which is being used by media organizations all over the world. Besides leading and supporting teams and giving direction, he likes to roll up his sleeves and experience first-hand how (and whether) the latest technologies work in the real world. He is never shy of making unconventional choices to achieve radical results.
**Talk: The human side of coding**
Now that AI's are writing our code, what is the value that we humans still bring to building software systems?
Our tech stacks are exploding in complexity, systems are more and more distributed and fast-paced development leads to an ecosystem full of fragile legacy systems that provide the backbone of business capabilities. How do we tackle that technical and social complexity? Do we take the usual route and solve it by adding more tech or AI? Or is there another way?
Even in the 80's, people realized that the theory of a system can't be transferred through code and documentation alone. It requires developers to work closely together. We need to encourage human collaboration across disciplines, backgrounds and personalities (including our new AI buddies). Learn how you can use your human power skills to better understand the problems you're facing and build systems that last!
**Speaker 2: [Floris Weers](https://www.linkedin.com/in/floris-weers-61392b160/) ([Biscuit](https://www.linkedin.com/company/biscuit-so/))**
Floris is an ML engineer based in Amsterdam. He was responsible for continued-pretraining (or mid-training) at Apple's Foundation Model team, contributing directly to Apple Intelligence. Before that, he finished his master's degree at the University of Twente while building games on the side.
He is a named author on the Apple Intelligence Foundation Language Models tech report, which describes the \~3 billion parameter on-device model and the large server-based model powering Apple Intelligence features. His research work at Apple also spanned multimodal models, mobile vision transformers, and distillation scaling laws.
**Talk: The silent failures of AI: how to evaluate?**
AI doesn't crash when it fails. It quietly does half the job. We'll go over a systematic way to evaluate agents in real product settings, allowing us to catch regressions and decide within an hour whether to use a newly released model or stick with the previous setup. A side-effect of the evaluation framework is that no engineer is scared of touching system prompts, making deeper harness changes or adding documentation to the RAG systems.
**Agenda:**
18:00 — Arrival, food & drinks
18:30 — Talk \#1 \| Nico Krijnen
19:15 — Talk \#2 \| Floris Weers
20:00 — Networking & more drinks
21:00 — Wrapping up
**What to bring:** Just curiosity and questions. If you've been working through agent evaluation, RAG system updates, or human-AI collaboration in your engineering team.
**Who is this for:** Platform engineers, AI/ML engineers, SREs, architects, and engineering leaders focused on building and validating reliable AI systems in production.
**Where to find us:** Yuma (4th floor), Business Centre Pedro de Medina, Pedro de Medinalaan 1, Amsterdam. 15 minutes from Amsterdam Central using tram 26. Paid parking at Parkbee Sluishuis across the street. [Maps link](https://maps.app.goo.gl/bd353dgCFd4TkDEq8)

IN-PERSON Book Club Meeting - 'HOMEGOING' by Yaa Gyasi
'HOMEGOING' by Yaa Gyasi
'Two sisters with two very different destinies. One sold into slavery; one a slave trader's wife. The consequences of their fate reverberate through the generations that follow. Taking us from the Gold Coast of Africa to the cotton-picking plantations of Mississippi; from the missionary schools of Ghana to the dive bars of Harlem, spanning three continents and seven generations, Yaa Gyasi has written a miraculous novel - the intimate, gripping story of a brilliantly vivid cast of characters and through their lives the very story of America itself. Epic in its canvas and intimate in its portraits, Homegoing is a searing and profound debut from a masterly new writer.'
***Please read the book and join us for a lively discussion (in English) about the contents during our afternoon book club meeting.***

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Finding Product Insights
**The Behavior Gap: Where Products Win or Lose**
Teams today have more data than ever, and yet many still struggle to understand why customers adopt, engage with, or abandon their products. Teams sprint, ship faster, and chase more signals… all while metrics stall and confidence drops. The missing piece isn’t more data. It’s often the behavioral insight between the metrics, explaining why the numbers move in the first place. Dashboards can tell you what customers did, but understanding why they did it (and how to influence what they do next) requires a deeper blend of insights. This session is about closing that gap.
Drawing from real-world experience designing and scaling products as [ZoCo Design](https://zocodesign.com/)’s CEO, [Lacey](https://www.linkedin.com/in/laceypicazo/) will share how to cut through the noise and identify the insights that actually change behavior—moving people, and moving metrics. You’ll learn:
* Why understanding customer behavior is a quant and qual challenge
* How to spot the signals that actually predict behavior change
* Where AI accelerates insight, and where it creates distraction
* How to get meaningfully closer to customers, without adding more tools
This talk reframes how to evaluate performance and identify what levers actually improve it, helping your team to make smarter bets with greater confidence. Every meaningful outcome is driven by behavior change. And when you know how to design for behavior, you stop guessing, and start building things that work.
**About Our Speaker**
[Lacey Picazo](https://www.linkedin.com/in/laceypicazo/) is the Founder and CEO of ZoCo, a healthcare product studio that turns complex, high-stakes ideas into products that drive real-world adoption. She partners with healthcare organizations to uncover critical care delivery insights, focus product strategy through behavior design, and build solutions that patients and providers actually use.

Stop Guessing: A Product Person's Guide to AI Adoption
## 🤝 Host Information
A co-hosted event by ProductTank Columbus & Women in Product Columbus
💡 About the Workshop
AI adoption is stalling across organizations — not because of a lack of motivation or tools, but because it's fundamentally a behavior design challenge.
This hands-on workshop applies proven Behavior Design models and methods to help you move from a vague organizational wish to boost AI adoption to 3-5 concrete, testable interventions you can act on starting tomorrow.
Whether you're a product manager, on a product team, or just someone trying to get AI to actually stick at work, you'll leave with a clear picture of what's worth focusing on, what to ignore, and how to drive real, sustained adoption — no guesswork required.

Efficient Region-of-Interest Detection with Guidance
**Abstract:** Motivated by the challenges of detecting extremely rare failures in sophisticated circuit design specifications, we study the problem of efficiently identifying multiple disjoint regions of interest (ROIs) — regions of a continuous, high-dimensional parameter space where a complex, expensive-to-evaluate target function falls below or above a pre-specified threshold. We reframe this problem as a Bayesian sequential decision-making problem and, more broadly, as an instance of strategic agent behavior in continuous spaces: an agent that must allocate a hard evaluation budget intelligently, updating its belief about the unknown function after each observation and choosing the next query to maximize coverage of all disjoint failure regions rather than convergence to a single optimum.
