Canadian born and pastured in Europe, Paul Myrehaug is an award-winning stand-up comedian with international touring, television and radio experience. Paul started performing at the age of eighteen and already in 2007 he took the top prize in “Great Canadian Laugh Off” as seen on The Comedy Network. In 2012 Paul moved to the United Kingdom went on to make appearances on: “Comedy Now! Hour Special” - CTV and The Comedy Network, “Uten Grenser” Comedy Special - Comedy Central Scandinavia, Just For Laughs Montreal Festival. Paul is now part of the “Snowed In Comedy Tour” which is Canada’s largest theatre tour stretching coast to coast in seventy cities. IAI coding agents can now scaffold entire applications from a single prompt. But for mission-critical systems that require compliance, reliability, and auditability, "it works on my machine" isn't enough. When your agent makes fifty tool calls, rewrites three files, and confidently hallucinates a security vulnerability, how do you even begin to debug that?
This talk introduces a practical, open-source toolkit for injecting observability, control, and systematic testing into agentic AI development.
Using MLflow's tracing and evaluation framework, we'll follow a single throughline: building an AI agent with a coding assistant (Claude Code), tracing both the assistant's work **and** the agent it produces, then evaluating quality with LLM judges - closing the loop from development through production monitoring.
You'll walk away with a concrete workflow for turning the black box of agentic coding into something you can inspect, measure, and trust. No vendor lock-in required.
**Speaker Bio:**
Tim Lortz is an AI Product Specialist at Databricks, where he has worked since 2019. He currently serves as the technical lead for Databricks' go-to-market efforts for AI in regulated industries, focusing particularly on enterprise-grade governance for AI platforms.
Prior to Databricks, Tim spent many years in various data science practitioner and leadership roles in the Federal contracting space. NoVABeerSec - April 29th @Aslin Beer Company (Herndon, VA)
The next NoVABeerSec event - "Informal Gathering of Security Minds Over Beer" will be Wednesday, April 29th, 5:30PM til 7:30ish at Aslin Beer Company - Herndon Taproom (767 Elden St., Herndon VA 20170).
**Venue for April:** Aslin Beer Company (https://www.aslinbeer.com) - Aslin Beer Co. was founded in 2015 by Andrew Kelley and Kai Leszkowicz. The name, Aslin, comes from the family that connected Andrew and Kai through marriage; they each married a daughter from the Aslin Family. Andrew’s professional background was in finance and consulting, while Kai worked in public service. They bonded over a shared interest of craft beer and home-brewing, which eventually lead to the idea that “We can do this too.”
**Additional Info:** We are an inclusive group, so if we missed anyone please let us know or if you want to bring your significant other/spouse please do.
