On Sunday, let's pick up again a plan that was sabotaged last autumn by a cancelled train - fingers crossed for more luck this time! We'll explore the southern end of the Parc natural Coeur de Condroz - an area where we don't go too often! We start in the small village of Haversin and follow a combination of GR and local hiking path through forests and fields and meadows, passing a number of castles on the way. The hike ends in Ciney, where we will find a bar for our final drink. As the number of participants is limited, it is important that you manage your registration responsibly: only sign up if you really intend to come and cancel as soon as you know you can’t (this also goes for people on the waiting list!). We will try to keep close to an average speed of about 4.5 km/h. We will walk mainly on unpaved roads. The 18th Brussels Saint Patrick’s Day Parade of the Nations & Regions takes place on Sunday 15th March 2026. We are looking for stewards, musicians, social media helpers and community volunteers to help bring next year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade to life. The parade celebrates the Irish national holiday and the global story of Irish people who have made their homes around the world. Here in Brussels, it is a chance to share Irish art, music, and culture with the wider community and to welcome everyone, Irish or not, into the spirit of inclusion and openness. The event also shines a light on Brussels as a diverse and international capital. It brings together people from many nations and regions, highlights the city’s architecture and heritage, and shows how Belgium and Ireland share long and surprising links stretching back to the 6th century. On Sunday I am proposing a hike close to Brussels. We will start in the tiny village Villers-La-Ville, which is known for its impressive ruins of a former abbey. Subsequently, we will walk through a forest and agricultural areas. This region also has wine producers, so we might also encounter some vineyards on the way. At our destination Ottignies we will probably find an open bar for a drink. As the number of participants is limited, it is important that you manage your registration responsibly: only sign up if you really intend to come and cancel as soon as you know you can’t (this also goes for people on the waiting list!). We will try to keep close to an average speed of about 5 km/h. We will walk mainly on unpaved roads. We will walk at a medium pace, 5 km/h on average while walking. Please bring water and some snacks. The purpose is to enjoy full moon light as much as possible and the sky should be mostly clear. Neverthless you must foresee **a lamp** as some part may be dark due to trees/leaves/clouds and moonlight can be insufficient in the middle of the forest. For your convenience and safety, ensure your GSM battery is fully charged. It’s also a good idea to bring an extra fully charged battery pack with you, just in case. Notice : by local rules, in Sonian Forest and in the parc, dogs should be kept on a leash. **Weather** Check the weather forecast upfront and dress accordingly. It is the largest such center in North America and one of the largest in the entire world. During this tour, we'll visit The Wilds' rhino herd in their state-of-the-art heated barns and learn how The Wilds' animal management team takes care of one of the largest herds of rhinos outside of Africa and Asia. **The date and time of this tour** We will be doing the 1:00 p.m. [Rhino Barn Tour](https://www.thewilds.org/rhino-barn-tour) on Saturday, February 28. The tour is scheduled to last 90 minutes. **What you need to do to attend** Signing up here on Meetup will not get you into The Wilds for the tour. The Wilds generally asks that people arrive at least thirty minutes because the scheduled start time of their tour. **GPS / Getting to The Wilds** The Wilds is in a very rural area, but I've never had a problem getting there with my GPS (I have Verizon). I've also uploaded a JPG map, below, of Muskingum County. Sometimes, though, it's hard to get a signal when you're at The Wilds and getting ready to leave. So you might want to consider downloading an offline map in Google Maps. Your cell phone should pick up a signal, however, within a few minutes after you leave. The Wilds' Visitor Center does have free Wi-Fi. **Carpooling?** If you want to carpool, I recommend discussing this in the comments, below, to this event. While I don't myself carpool, I will do what I can to help you arrange something if I can. **The weather** Dress for the weather. Just because the barn is heated doesn't mean it will be warm. And wear closed-toed shoes. Wilds' tours typically run no matter what the weather is. **After the tour** Once we're done with the rhinos, we'll head over to the very highly rated [Y-Bridge Brewing Company](https://ybridgebrewing.com/). The brewery is about thirty minutes from The Wilds, and it will be on the way back to Columbus for most, if not all, of us.
