Poetry Reading in a Bar: Gentle Words & Deep Ideas đđčâš
**Welcome to the Paris Poetry Circle!**
Now in its 30th year, our English-language poetry reading group continues to bring together lovers of verse and thought in the heart of Paris. đ
Join us this Wednesday evening for a gathering of minds and voices as we read and reflect on poems that move, challenge, and illuminate â all shared over some quiet drinks. đ«âïžđ„€đ§đč
We seek poems that are clear yet profound, sweet or serious â those that carry us forward and help us make sense of the world. We steer clear of the obscure or needlessly complex; we value clarity over cleverness, sincerity over show.
Each poem is read anonymously to begin with, without revealing the author, allowing space for open, unbiased interpretation. We then explore it together â carefully, curiously â to uncover what lies beneath the surface.
After the meeting, we write a letter of thanks to the living poets we have read at the group, to thank and congratulate them. We revere all the poets of this world.
The group is small â usually six or seven thoughtful individuals, up to a maximum of ten. The conversation is warm, intelligent, and grounded. There is no performance, no pressure to contribute, and no cost. Only a shared pursuit of insight, beauty, and fellowship.
If that resonates with you, weâd love to welcome you. Bring a poem, or simply bring yourself. đâš

Streaming into Iceberg: Kafka Connect vs Flink vs Tableflow
**Résumé :**
Getting streaming data into Iceberg tables sounds simpleâuntil you hit schema evolution, upserts and deletes, small file problems, and commit contention. In this talk, Iâll walk through the real-world challenges of streaming ingestion into Iceberg and compare three common approaches: Kafka Connect, Flinkâs Iceberg sink, and Confluent Tableflow.
**Biographie :**
Gilles works at Confluent as a Software Practice Lead and has over twenty years of experience in the financial sector, primarily developing systems for investment banks. In recent times, he served as a Principal Engineer at a FinTech company, where he built a platform that offers loans to small and medium businesses in the blink of an eye. Through this work, he became a proponent of event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka and is now passionate about guiding others to leverage its advantages. Outside of work, Gilles enjoys reading books, whipping up culinary delights, and playing games with his daughter and wife.
**đĄ Intervenant 2 :**
JB Onofré, Ingénieur logiciel principal, Dremio + Directeur de la fondation Apache
**Discussion :**
From Legacy Queues to Modern Tables: Bridging ActiveMQ, Kafka, and Apache Iceberg
**Résumé :**
Modern data platforms rarely start with a blank slate. Organizations often face the challenge of unifying "classic" messaging systems like **Apache ActiveMQ** with high-throughput streams like **Apache Kafka** to feed a unified analytical layer.
In this session, we explore how to build a robust ingestion pipeline that captures events from diverse sources and commits them into **Apache Iceberg**. We will dive into:
* **The Bridge:** Strategies for migrating or mirroring data from JMS-based ActiveMQ to Kafka.
* **The Sink:** Using Kafka Connect and Icebergâs native capabilities to handle schema evolution and ACID transactions.
* **The Payoff:** How this architecture enables "time-travel" queries and high-performance analytics on streaming data without the "small-files" headache.
**Biographie :** JB est directeur de la fondation Apache. Il est membre de plus de 20 projets Apache et également mentor sur de nombreux podlings. Il est aussi en charge de l'équiipe OSPO chez Dremio.

Deep Talk / In English
Let's have a weekly deep talk in an intimate Parisian cafĂ©, share a drink and have a good time with like-minded, lovely and chill people. â
We're here to sip life in a childish, simple and non-serious way.
When was the last time you had a meaningful conversation? Or deepened your relationship with someone in your life? It's not easy to have a deep conversation.
While small talk, which is typically casual and light-hearted, can help break the ice, it may not necessarily help you form a deep, emotional connection with someone. Whether it's with your friends, family, colleagues or romantic partners, having meaningful conversations is important for creating strong bonds.
"Meaningful conversations help us understand ourselves and those around us better. They involve sharing important aspects of ourselves and actively listening, validating and connecting with others."
We believe that a happy and healthy life is built on beautiful relationships and that loneliness kills us. That's it. It's not the number of friends that counts, it's the quality of the relationship.
â
This group is adressed to :
â People who want to build deep, genuine and caring relationships in a small group that looks the same, where they feel comfortable and emotionally safe to talk emotionally and get intimate about anything in their lives.
â Simple, loving, kind, hyper/sensitive and lovely people who spend a lot of time in their bubble thinking about the meaning of life, passionate about personal development, philosophy, meaningful conversations, debates ....
â Please don't subscribe if :
â You don't see yourself in the group's aims and beliefs.
â You're travelling for a short period of time and don't live or intend to live in Paris.
â You are not sure if you will be able to come, please update your status to allow others on the waiting list to join. An absence without notice will result in an irrevocable ban.
Progress :
â â For reservations, I'll send you a private Meetup message at least 5 hours before the meeting to confirm your reservation. If I don't receive a reply 2 hours before the meeting, I will send you a second message to let you know that you will be replaced by someone on the waitlist.
â We keep the session small, cosy and relaxed in a quiet place, prioritising regularity to encourage intimacy, connection, listening and speaking. (\~ 5/6 people)
â On arrival, if you feel comfortable, you will be suggested to choose and associate several drawn Feelings and Needs cards to express how you really feel at the moment, to talk about ourselves and communicate effectively.
â The best way to make progress is to make the conversation easy and natural, with everyone making an effort to suggest and write down what you want to talk about. You can write down your favourite topics/questions before the meeting. The meeting is participative and invite everyone if you feel comfortable being a leader and a power of suggestion.
Anyway, to keep the meeting running smoothly, I'll animate the meeting to make sure the conversation doesn't get wild or boring and I wouldn't hesitate to reframe people. In case of lack of inspiration we have a lot of deep conversation question card game which can help to find interesting questions.
â (Not compulsory) After the meeting we can finish in a nearby restaurant for those who wish to relax or continue our conversation.
Advice for a good moment :
â Leave your ego and mask at home, we are not here to impress anyone but to be ourselves with our strength, weakness, pride and shame.
Come with an open/deep/emotional/complex thought and vulnerability.
â Ask open-ended questions and invite the other person to describe what a situation was like for them or how they felt.
â Don't hesitate to be vulnerable and share information about yourself if needed.
Consider sharing personal information first to gain the other person's trust.
â Adopt an attitude of curiosity and genuine interest in what the other person is saying. Be thoughtful and try to put yourself in the other person's shoes so that you can see things from their perspective. Be truthful, caring and honest.
â Listen actively and ask follow-up questions.
â Be empathetic and offer emotional validation so that they feel seen and heard.
It is forbidden to judge, but try to understand.
â â± Be aware of your speaking time for Equally Speak.
â Be aware never to provoke political or religious ideologies, but to accept differences of belief. Advice on non-violent communication can be given in the meeting to learn not to unintentionally hurt anyone when requested or needed.
â Remember to maintain a safe, and benevolent environment. People who are considered to be disruptive, problematic or simply not in tune with the energy of the group will not be allowed to return.
Finally, we're hug-friendly !!!

**Abstract**
Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively.
This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. Weâll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from serverâdriven controls, and why theyâre becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether youâre maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, youâll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standardsâbased way.
