Dallas Scrabble
Dallas Scrabble
This is the weekly meeting of the Dallas Scrabble Club, now occurring online at https://woogles.io/club/dallasbedford due to COVID-19 restrictions. Woogles.io is a new web site for players everywhere. We have had great response to playing online at a previous site and have had as many as 16 players show up each week. It makes for a fun diversion for all of us. We play 4 official games on Thursdays. After those 4 games, players are free to play whoever they want on this game site. Each week you plan to attend, I will need to know by 6 pm on Thursday that you are definitely coming, and that you will be onsite by 7 pm that night. That way, I can pair people up in advance to play four games without too much delay in getting set up. If you prefer to play FEWER than four games, please include that info in your response. Please do set up an account on the Woogles site prior to joining the club meetings on Thursday nights and send your player name for Woogles to me so I can set up the games for each expected player. If you would like a practice game on the site, let me know.

We say it's 1X because if we are successful you will be too busy to come back the next week! _________________________________________________ WE need your help to help YOU! Starting now each Online IDEA Circle will be NEW, we will keep it fresh by using the dynamic Socrates Cafe format (thanks Chris Phillips), but limiting the focus to topics having to do with startup, a one time meeting where anyone can bring their startup problems and opportunities for a Fresh Thought Hunt (FTH,) for more about FTH see the HBR Press book "Just Start." We start and end with a meeting of the whole, the Fresh Thought Hunt itself will take place in groups of 3 through the magic of computer science. RSVP here now to make sure we save a seat for you. ' The NEW IDEA Circle is free and open to anyone and everyone who is starting something new, a new business prior to the first sale, or an established business or an individual who wants to start in a new direction. The only requirement is a clear statement of what you want the Fresh Thought Hunt to focus on for you. The first 10-minutes of each NEW IDEA Circle will be recorded and will be posted on our YouTube Channel for SBCC that has been inactive from it's founding long ago. (On YouTube search for Small Business Chamber of Commerce, Inc. or via Facebook/SmallBizChamber.) We encourage each of our SBCC fellow members to join us at a Socrates Cafe Online, Fridays, Saturdays, 1st Sundays, and Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m. Denver time, 8:30 p.m. Eastern, 5:30 p.m. Pacific, suggest the topic of startup or whatever topic might help you the most, and to eventually form a similar Socrates Cafe and New IDEA Cafe in your local library, coffee shop, or other public meeting place with the sponsorship of one of your local chambers of commerce and your local community newspaper. For more see our Facebook Page via www.SmallBizChamber.org and "Visit Group" to join while it's still free. Questions about this are answered each week at our Monday Noon Newcomers workshop. ____________________________________________ We encourage you to: Watch one; Lead one; Start one! No matter what you want to start, a new career, a new project or campaign, or a new business, we can help you start faster, cheaper, and with less risk. Introductions are in order! We will be introducing each other, and getting to the straight dope. Talk about the news, and we will then start "bawling", i.e., voice our grievances, and begin organizing and strategizing. Should do this immediately with an inauguration a week away. NOTE: Due to COVID-19, we will be restricting our meeting to online. Respect each other out there and stay safe!
SOTO ZEN in ZOOM - Saturdays - a safe place to discuss Zen
SOTO ZEN in ZOOM - Saturdays - a safe place to discuss Zen
Weekly Zen Meditation meetings followed by a talk and Q&A session. Duration 1-hour. Led by Sensei Ryuko, a Soto Zen Priest and a Master Zen Teacher in various traditions. Our practice is based on the Japanese Soto tradition, but combines this with our background in Rinzai (koan work), Korean and Vietnamese Zen practices. All welcome regardless of experience, and particularly welcome if you share our community spirit that helping ourselves is as important as helping others. We typically sit for just 10 minutes, then a talk followed by discussion. This is a very lively group that discusses a wide range of Zen-related issues and questions. Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/516177070 We are a "Zen center without walls" using Zoom to meet. Visit us at our website: http://www.stillcenter.org For more information, recorded talks, our books, and more. We are open to all members worldwide.
Discussing The Topics That Matter Most - VIRTUALLY!
Discussing The Topics That Matter Most - VIRTUALLY!
Contemplative Conversations has held a space for people to meet and talk about what is important to them for over 4 years! Covid-19 changed the world as we know it. We realized that meeting in person would not take place in 2020. Yet, for our group, these changes have come to be an opportunity to see and meet new friends - virtually. Contemplative Conversations will continue to host our discussions online via Zoom through 2021. In this way, we can meet and greet each other no matter where we are in the world! Eventually, we will return to meeting in person in locations around the Triad. Our conversations will always take place on every other Saturday morning at 9am - 11am EST. Same rules apply, so please read the description below. WHAT WE WILL DO *************** We will spend a little time getting to know each other, and begin exploring the scope and direction of our discussions. The list of topics to consider is broad, and together we will narrow the field to a few most popular issues to focus on. As we move into the discussions, expect robust and energizing conversation that will peel back the layers of our topic and help us move to the core of the important issues we decide to address. We recognize that we sometimes don't agree with the opinions or beliefs of others who choose to join us; however, the diverse discussion that develops is encouraged. Contemplative conversations are not debates. Instead, we seek to understand, then be understood. To support this effort, we strongly discourage unfounded conspiratorially charged dialogue. IMPORTANT TO KNOW *************** Our meetings will continue to be moderated. Disrespect in any form will not be tolerated. Each person will be allow 2 minutes to share their thoughts on the topic at hand. Please feel free to share resources you've found to be helpful. This meeting space will require a password to enter in the Zoom conference call. It would be helpful to download the free Zoom app to your device for easier access to the meetings.

Feminist Question Time LIVE w/ speakers from around the world! Every Saturday AM
We are not alone! Come listen, learn, and share at this weekly ***WOMEN ONLY*** presentation by Women's Declaration International (formerly Women's Human Rights Campaign). Join this sorority of radical feminists from around the world as they inform us about the challenges and struggles in their own countries. Chat with other attendees and put questions to the panelists. Following the presentation, you are invited to join breakout rooms (women only please) with the panelists. These weekly online webinars present a new panel each week from around the world, often reporting on a central theme. They are attended by a global feminist and activist community of between 250-350. The main focus is how gender ideology is harming the rights of women and girls. The speaker list and any particular theme is usually announced mid-week before the webinar. Information will be added here as it becomes available. A clear example has unfolded in New York where a self-described "trans-woman lesbian" (a hetero man in a dress) has used gender-neutral language amendments to supplant women in elected offices that had been specifically reserved for females. Humanist Program
Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be. Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. Take Control Of Your Life, Freedom From Negative Thoughts & Irrational Emotions
Take Control Of Your Life, Freedom From Negative Thoughts & Irrational Emotions
Feeling down? Sometimes depressed? Can't focus? Negativity & stress? Recent losses? Creativity in career and personal life hindered by mental blocks? Sometimes we never fully recover from traumatic experiences. Whether it was yesterday, last week or a year ago, traumatic experiences - a loss of a loved one, losing a job, a breakup - can leave you scarred. You talk about it and feel a little better, but it never goes away. After you hang up the phone, it's still there; the sadness, the cloud, the over-thinking, the worry, the guilt. You try to focus, but you're blocked. You try to look forward into new experiences, new relationships but a cloud is hanging over you, casting a shadow on what you once considered a bright, cheerful future. What happened to your courage? Your strength of character? You're 'why not' attitude? Whoever said 'time heals' must have had a special time machine, because after weeks, months, years, you're wondering - when exactly does that kick in? Sometimes it seems like drinking or drugs are the way to go. But they wear off, and now the problem is still there with added side effects from the drugs. At this free local Meetup event we will talk about: * What causes grief, anxiety and depression to become chronic. * Is it possible to regain your joy and happiness even after traumatic experiences? * How to break away from negativity and focus on the future * What are the steps to take to get control of your mind and your emotions? Learn about a safe, gentle, do-it-yourself counseling that can be done in the comfort of your own home. Let's explore safe, effective solutions for healing from traumatic experiences. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to the event. We look forward to seeing you there. This group is sponsored by the Dianetics & Scientology Life Improvement Center.
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations. If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!). **HOW IT WORKS** **Step 1: Bring a topic** Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event. **Step 2: Circle up & share** We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds. **Step 3: Walk, talk & float** We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!" **Step 4: Feel more alive** Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times. *For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)* **HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC** A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about. Recent topics include: * "What are you passionate about right now?" * "What makes a good friend?" * "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?" * "How do you want to be remembered?" * "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?" Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter. **WHAT TO EXPECT** This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.* But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here. **FAQ** * Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk! * We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space. * We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space. * Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know. * Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic! **LOGISTICS** * If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event. * This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs. * Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details. * If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋 **IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...** [The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up. * This is a global HQ for people who crave big talk, deep connection, and dream collaborations with people across industries. If the walks feel like a spark... The Board is the fire. Apply [here](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board).
