šš¦ DANFORTH BURGER & ICE CREAM WALK! š¦š
šš¦ DANFORTH BURGER & ICE CREAM WALK! š¦š
A Summer Evening Stroll, One of Toronto's Most Underrated Burgers & Giant Ice Cream Scoops
Sometimes the best events are the simplest ones.
Join us for a relaxed summer evening walk along the Danforth as we make our way from Main Street Station to Broadview Station,
enjoying one of Toronto's most vibrant neighbourhoods along the way.
This isn't about rushing from place to place. It's about getting outside, enjoying the evening, meeting new people, and sharing a couple of local favourites that many Torontonians still haven't discovered.
Our first stop will be Square Boy, a true Danforth institution that serves some of the most underrated burgers in Toronto. No fancy gimmicks. No social media hype. Just great burgers that locals have loved for decades. š They are soo goo that they ONLY TAKE CASH!
After we've eaten, we'll walk across the street to Kawartha Dairy for dessert. If you've never been before, prepare yourself.
The scoops are legendary.
Seriously.
Most first-time visitors cannot believe how much ice cream they give you. š¦š
Afterward, we'll continue our walk west along the Danforth toward Broadview Station, enjoying the neighbourhood, conversation, and hopefully a beautiful summer evening.

Midnight Martial Arts Presents: JabāCross!!!
## **Beginner Boxing Fundamentals**
Midnight Martial Arts starts at midnight ā so weāre meeting under the city lights for a late-night beginner boxing fundamentals session, under the lights of **Mel Lastman Square**.
This first, very much **weather-dependent** meetup, is a simple, non-contact deep dive into one of the most important combinations in striking: **the jabācross**.
Whether you stand square, bladed, orthodox, southpaw, or youāre still figuring that out, weāll break down the basics together: stance, guard, footwork, rhythm, balance, distance, and how the jab and cross work across different striking styles.
### **Why Mel Lastman Square at midnight?**
Yeah, fair question. Since this is the very first event, I genuinely don't know if anyone will show up or ten. And honestly, even if I booked a world-class facility (Which would be kind of hard because most of them are closed), I'm not sure that would change the turnout for a first meetup.
So for now I'm keeping it simple, free, and low-commitment ā an open, well-lit public space where anyone who's curious can sign up and we can see if this thing has legs. If there's interest, finding a proper venue is the natural next step.
### **What this is not**
This is not sparring. This is not a fight club. This is a relaxed, beginner-friendly technique lab for night owls, martial arts nerds, and curious people who want to move, learn, and talk technique in a low-pressure environment.
### **What weāll cover**
Basic boxing stance and guard
How to throw a clean jab
How to throw a clean cross
How the jab and cross connect together
Footwork, weight shift, rhythm, and distance
Orthodox vs. southpaw basics
A few style variations and discussion points
### **Got a martial arts rabbit hole you want to explore?**
Bring it in. If thereās a specific boxing style, technique, or idea that connects to the jabācross, feel free to share it during the session so we can work it into the discussion.
A short video, a clear question, or a few notes can go a long way.
If itās about another area of martial arts like grappling, kicking, clinch, or anything outside the main theme.
Thatās welcome too, but weāll try to save those bigger side quests for the end so we can keep the main session focused.
Iām always happy to get into the weeds about these things, but Iām not an expert in every corner of martial arts, so a little context helps a lot; You might teach me something, and I'm here to learn too.
**Time:** 12:30 a.m. ā 2:30 a.m.
**Location:** Mel Lastman Square
**Safety and well-being are the are number one priority!!!**
TOPHATs Places of Pride, The ArQuives, and a bit of the Hair of the Dog
Join Lawrence, you top hatted host, as we discover some of the key locations of our 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Toronto. As a queer ally, I have wanted to include a walk that covers some of the historic location in our Gay Village.
We will begin our adventure at The ArQuives, to see an exhibit The Wild and The Weeds, about Hanlanās Point Beach is positioned as more than the site of the 1971 Gay Day Picnic.
https://arquives.ca/event/the-wild-and-the-weeds/
34 Isabella St, Toronto, ON M4Y 1N1
Then we will head over to the Foy House, a queer art gallery, owned by Georgia W. This heritage building, has survived the wrecking ball of gentrification, and hosts a monthly gayming event.

92 Isabella St, Toronto, ON M4Y 1N4
Our walk continues past the The Home Children Plaque
Beginning in 1869, British charitable societies removed children from slums and orphanages in congested industrial cities and brought them to Canada to serve as cheap farm and domestic labour.
Dr. Barnardo arranged for many *children* to be sent to *Toronto*, where they were sent to work on farms or serve as domestic help.

Our next stop is the AIDS memorial in Barbara Hall Park.
Here we will stop for a moment of silence for those who died from this terrible illness.

Next stop is the 519 Community Centre. For fifty years, The 519 has been a place where community gathers, organizes, celebrates, and shows up for one another. Itās a place to imagine something better.
August 15-22, they will host an exhibition of their
fifty years of caring for this community.

519 Church St, Toronto, ON M4Y 2C9
Then we will head past the former location of Glad Day Bookshop. Opened in 1970 by [Jearld Moldenhauer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jearld_Moldenhauer "Jearld Moldenhauer"), it was the city's and Canada's first bookstore targeted to the [gay](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay "Gay") community.
If you need some Queer literature, they have relocated to 32 Lisgar.

No queer walk is complete without going to City Park Apartments, the apartment complex was vital to the development of the ChurchāWellesley Village in the 1950s.

Then it's time for some beer and social time at the Hair of the Dog Pub.

First it was **Ambrose Small** and my team of brilliant detectives who tried to figure it all out. The walkers on this tour just about cracked the case. Well done my detectives. But your smarts are needed again however. The Harley Karulis Detective Agency needs your help!
The famous murder of Burt Massey on Walmer Road awaits your inspection. This time we are needed as **jurors** to figure the case out and add a fresh perspective. Are you up for this interactive game once again?
The story shocked the city back in February of 1915.
How a young teenage maid shot and killed her boss on Walmer Road in the Annex made headlines across Canada and around the world. But it was the name of that boss that made people gasp, the Massey family, from the famous music hall of the same name on Shuter Street in downtown Toronto! And people talked and tried to come up with explanations.
But the following trial exposed the undercurrents of Toronto life, and the class system that was in place. This trial changed Toronto at a crucial time in its history. The first World War was raging in Europe, and residents of the city now had something else to think about.
Murder!
How this could have happened to an upper middle class family in the centre of Toronto, the Annex neighbourhood was rife with theory and fears.
This walking tour/game takes participants back in time to the 1915 trial and explores the many sites associated with the trial and the personalities involved. You will be introduced to 15 historic characters and each has their own dark secrets, it will be up to you to render a **verdict** in this case. Guilty, or Not Guilty, and was the trial fair, those are the questions that need answering! Are you up for it?
Sites like the National Club and the Toronto Club, Old City Hall and the Morgue are explored and their stories exposed.
**This tour requires a PRESTO card for TTC as this tour uses transit to get around the city for stops outside the downtown core. One could call it a hop on hop off walking tour!**
Our walk begins on the steps of Old City Hall at the northeast corner of Bay Street and Queen Street West. We end the tour at the site of the murder in the Annex for the reading of the verdict! Just like in the Ambrose Small case, we end where it all begins!
This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person. Please get your tickets early if you would like to attend.
\*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket price when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:**

Founding Connections: The Columbus Investor Social | Vol. 1
Hi everyone! We're Jared and Petria Walker, local real estate investors based in Columbus, Ohio, with a passion for short-term rentals and hospitality. We're looking to start a casual monthly Columbus-area meetup for entrepreneurs, investors, real estate professionals, and anyone interested in short-term rentals to share ideas, discuss market trends, learn from one another, and build meaningful relationships. Whether you're just getting started or have years of experience, we'd love to connect, collaborate, and grow together. We believe some of the best opportunities begin with great conversations. See you soon!
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for July is "Shoes"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Shut Up & Write!⢠Easton Town Center
We'll meet at The Capital One CafƩ, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator.
Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking!
⢠What we'll do
Join us for an hour of writing! Weāve discovered that itās strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if itās true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
10:00 - SESSION 1: quick intros.

Bad Girls Book Club July 2026
**Our July novel is: *Listen for the Lie* by Amy Tintera**
**This monthās novel was named one of the best books of 2024. Itās a domestic thriller with crime, mystery, and murder, told from womenās perspectives. The story includes a detective, an unreliable narrator, and plenty of suspense. The book is 352 pages in print and 9 hours and 18 minutes on audiobook.**
What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter?
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvyās blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. Itās been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy canāt remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.
But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvyās murder for the showās second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friendās murder, even if she is the one that did it.
The truth is out there, if we just listen.
