This first feature film by Cuba's godfather of cinema, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, is a cunning adaptation of a comic novel from the early years of the USSR by Ilf and Petrov. The madcap plot concerns the hunt for family jewels hidden by a wealthy Cuban matriarch before she died, in one of a set of 12 dining chairs which have been sold off individually. Son-in-law Hipólito and his former chauffeur Oscar both embark on a desperate adventure to find the ‘treasure’ before each other or the state does. They struggle to understand the new Cuban society, its rejection of class status, individual wealth and not to mention the maze of new official state organisations – a mix of real and imagined. When the movie was made, the revolution in Cuba was only 2 years old, filming had to be paused in April 1961 when the US attacked at Playa Girón, and the impact of the new US blockade was overwhelming. For a newly liberated country in those circumstances to be able to laugh at itself in this joyful way is astonishingly confident. Conventions of silent movies, slapstick, animation and social realism are all evident in this unmissable first comedy of the revolution. Pay Forward £30 - Regular £25 - Starter £20 **1\. Do I need any experience to join?** No. This weekend is for anyone curious about being more present, playful, and connected. Impro experience or none at all—you’re welcome. Some participants have been doing it for years, and some are just starting. **2\. What if I’m shy\, nervous\, or feel out of place?** That’s completely fine. This retreat is built to include you exactly as you are. Nothing to prove, nothing to perform. Just start where you are and let things unfold. **3\. Will I have to perform?** Not if you don't want to. It's all Open Space: you only do what feels right for you. Sometimes things will be funny, but we’re not aiming for it. **4\. Will I have to be funny?** Sometimes things will be funny, but we’re not aiming for it. **5\. What actually happens during a class?** We breathe, stretch, move, play, speak, and rest. Some games are full-body and wordless. Others are about listening, timing, and presence. If it's a retreat, there’s food, silence, laughter, and space to do nothing at all. **6\. What should I bring?** Clothes that you can move and rest in. If it's a retreat, shoes or boots for walking, swimsuit, mosquito repellent, allergy medication if needed and anything that helps you feel at ease. We’ll take care of the rest. **7\. What do people leave with?** A quieter mind. Looser body. Sharper attention. A sense of having been part of something real. **8\. How many people will be there?** Usually around 6 to 8 people for a class or a retreat. Enough to play, small enough to stay close. It can be much more in a jam, six to 40 in our experience. **The Trauma Response Workshop Series: *Class Two: The Flight Response*** Trauma responses are involuntary physical, emotional, and cognitive reactions to intense, stressful, or life-threatening events, rooted in survival instincts. These mechanisms help traumatized people manage danger when they are subject to it but can become long-term, ingrained behaviors even when the individual has achieved safety. People with Complex PTSD often experience automatic, intense, and, at times, inappropriate fight, flight, freeze, fawn, flop/fatigue, fine and flood/faint responses when triggered, as their nervous system perceives danger where none exists. In this 7 part series we will be exploring these trauma responses in depth and what we can do as trauma survivors when these activate and/or present themselves in daily life. The second trauma response we will discuss is the FLIGHT response. The trauma reaction presents as a an intense, instinctive urge to escape, run away, or avoid a perceived threat or danger. In this course we will discuss: \- what the flight response entails physically and psychologically \- what makes one more prone to the flight response when triggered \- behavioral signs of the flight response \- when flight manifests as avoidance and procrastination \- when the flight response becomes maladaptive \- how to curb the fight response when triggered \- common misconceptions about the flight response This course will come with a companion Power Point that will be distributed post class. **YOUR ORGANIZER:** Kerrin began her legal career as a public defender and represented patients who were facing involuntary detention or commitment in a mental health facility. Throughout her 20 years as an attorney since she has worked with social workers, and mental health professionals to guide criminal defendants toward treatment and community supervision as an alternative to incarceration. She is also the daughter of a narcissistic mother and believes many of the mental health issues she's struggled with on her own were brought about by long term emotional abuse. Family Constellation work is a powerful experiential process for discovering the hidden dynamics operating within families and systems. Often the struggles we carry—conflicts, repeating patterns, unexplained emotions, or blocks in life—are not only personal but connected to deeper, unseen loyalties in our family lineage. In a constellation workshop we learn to slow down and look at what actually is, without judgment or blame. By respectfully acknowledging forgotten or excluded members of a system, and by allowing what has been hidden to be seen, the deeper intelligence of the field begins to reveal unexpected solutions. As order is restored, people often find themselves able to release burdens that were never truly theirs to carry. Unconscious entanglements between victim and perpetrator can soften, making space for dignity and understanding on all sides. Participants frequently experience a renewed sense of belonging—to their family, their life, and their place in the larger human story. Through the shared field of the group, movements toward resolution emerge organically, allowing individuals to step forward with greater clarity, strength, and freedom. Randy Goldberg, LMT is a graduate of the DC Hellinger Institute, and of advanced studies in Family Constellation with Heinz Stark of Germany. He is a former Yoga monk, Craniosacral therapist, and a world-renowned astrologer (both Western and Vedic) interviewed by the Washington Post, NPR, and CNN. He has facilitated Family Constellation therapy for individuals and groups for more than 20 years. Title: Talk/listen about life-changing loss and grief, and care-giving challenges We have created “LET'S TALK - Leesburg” and you are invited to attend. Folks meet to give and receive support dealing with caregiving or life-changing events. This activity is for any one that is experiencing powerful life changes such as loss of independence, caregiving challenges, any loss that has been a life-changing blow to them or has significantly changed their life, including the loss of a precious person. Participants who attend the “LET'S TALK” group say that the group is a place to: Feel safe, to talk or to listen, gain understanding of experiences, and foster confidence!
