### About the Movie
Directed by Rob Reiner and based on a novella by Stephen King, *Stand By Me* is a coming-of-age classic that follows four friends â Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern â on a summer adventure to find a missing boy.
Set in the 1950s, itâs funny, heartfelt, and deeply nostalgic â a story about friendship, growing up, and the moment you realize childhood doesnât last forever.
âą Runtime: **89 minutes**

### Why the 40th Anniversary Is So Special
Forty years later, *Stand By Me* still resonates because it captures something universal: the intensity of childhood friendships and the bittersweet transition into adulthood.
Seeing it on the big screen again gives the story the space it deserves â the Oregon landscapes, the unforgettable performances from a young cast, and the emotional depth that sneaks up on you when you least expect it.
Anniversary screenings arenât just about nostalgia â theyâre about sharing a timeless story with a room full of people who laugh, tear up, and remember their own childhood adventures at the same time. Thereâs something powerful about experiencing that together.
If youâve loved this movie for decades, or if youâve somehow never seen it, this is the perfect way to experience it.
Come walk the tracks with us. đ

AIâŻvs.âŻHuman: Who Designs Better Primers? In Person computer lab
Join us this Wednesday at **DIYBio.to** for a handsâon trial to compare primer designâbetween cuttingâedge AI algorithms with traditional human expertise. We will also tour our lab - it's under new construction though! And go over some of the fluorescent tools that we have for cloning.

* **What to bring:** Laptop (optional), curiosity, and any DNA targets youâd like to test.
* **Finding us:** Hacklab.to, ground floor lab space

Macro Training 101 (Hands-On Lab)
As a follow-up to our macro class and to get ready for our May and June Field Shoots, we are going to have a macro training
"class." I will attempt to work through a number of macro shoots with the group. Those with cameras can try to shoot the same subjects I am shooting. We will start with some small objects and work our way down to smaller and smaller ones. As we photograph each subject, we will consider depth of field, focal plane management, subject composition, background, and lighting.
I have no idea how many subjects we will get through, but we will give it our best shot (pun intended!).
Bring your camera, whatever macro gear you might have, a tripod if you have one, whatever lighting you may have, etc. This will really be an exercise in seeing what you have, me showing you some ways to approach the subjects, and seeing what works!
I am going to add an extra hour to this meeting!
CYA There!!!!!
Meeting Schedule:
1. 6:00 - Introduction, Meet New Members
2. 6:10 - Old Business
3. 6:20 - New Business
4. 6:30 - Starting Shooting Small Stuff
5. 9:00 - Adjourn
Pre-Shoot Brief/Education:
