HARD WOOD TREASURE BOX
**Bookable via our website ā”ļø** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/hard-wood-treasure-box-12/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/hard-wood-treasure-box-12/)

**Make a Hard Wood Treasure Box**
Fridays 10-5 PM- see dates below.
**Suitable for beginners.**
**Small class size.**
**Supervised use of woodwork machinery.**
**Learn how to use jigs and rods.**
**Solid wood carcass construction.**
**The use of tools and materials included.**
A two-day course ā Consecutive Fridays 10AMā5PM
This is a content-rich two-day course in a very small class size.
From a technical drawing and a length of timber to the final sanding of the completed box, expert furniture maker and tutor, Marcin Waszak will guide each learner through all the steps needed to create this hardwood treasure box. The box measures 330mm by 304mm by 180mm and can be used to store lots of special things.
The course begins by explaining how to stay safe while using our professional and powerful woodworking machines. Marcin will talk you through the materials and tools you will be using and let you practice before beginning the project. We have created a cutting list so that each person can learn how to process the wood and begin making very quickly.
If you hanker to use some big machines and learn how to use jigs and to work accurately from plans, this is a great course for you.
**Steps to making your own Treasure Box:**
1. Student introductions, inspirations and knowledge.
2. Introduction to the project.
3. Health and Safety.
4. Understanding the materials and tools we will be using in this course (wood technology, proper usage of the tools, jigs).
5. Practice on how to use the tools and jigs in the workshop.
6. Cutting list.
7. Making.
Each student will be provided with printed technical drawing
Marcin says:
āI will approach the sessions with a solid introduction not only to Health and Safety but to give an understanding of materials and tools. I believe itās important to understand the nature of different types of wood and how it reacts (i.e. depending on variety, cut or thickness) when handling it, glueing or using different tools. There will be a great focus on how to use tools and machinery in the correct way for best results.
We will be starting from technical drawing explanation and introduction to the material and the design itself. I will love to know peopleās backgrounds before we start the session so everyone will feel more comfortable and confident to work as a team.
I will have prepared a cutting list to make things easier and so we can start making (and having fun) as soon as possible.
I would like to make the sessions inclusive and provide a safe space for everyone. I always take peopleās abilities into account and endeavour to be there for students that want to share their struggles in order to make the making experience something they can enjoy.ā

Note: Missing a class ā this is a content-rich class and it will not be easy to catch up or redo a missed day, so please consider this when contemplating joining the course.

MAKE A PLANT HOLDER
**Bookable via our website ā”ļø** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/make-a-plant-holder-38/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/make-a-plant-holder-38/)
āāā
A good woodworker has a number of basic joints in their virtual toolbelt that they can use for any project. We have devised a lovely one-day introduction to woodwork skills which is a homage to the not-so-humble mortise and tenon joint ā one of the essential joints required if you are looking to create sturdy pieces of furniture that can be fitted together like a beautiful 3D puzzle.
A mortise (or mortice) and tenon joint connects two pieces of wood mainly when the adjoining pieces connect at right angles. In its most basic form, a mortise and tenon joint is both simple and strong and comprises two components, the mortise hole and the tenon tongue.
The tenon, formed on the end of a piece of wood generally referred to as a rail, fits into a square or rectangular hole cut into the other, corresponding piece of wood. The tenon is cut to fit the mortise hole exactly. It usually has shoulders that seat when the joint fully enters the mortise hole. The joint may be glued, pinned, or wedged to lock it in place.
Over the course of this hands-on, practical day the tutor will give you careful direction in the use of using traditional tools. You will learn how to measure and cut accurately, how to use a chisel to make four āmortise and tenonsā, how to use a plane to shape and apply a smooth finish to edges, and how to slot it all firmly together.
The result will be a strong, standing plant pot holder that will proudly support a plant to brighten up a corner of any room and stand as a lasting testament to your joint making skills.
An elegant 20cm white pot is included for you to take home with your new plant pot holder ā weāll leave it to you to decide how to fill it.
This workshop is suitable for all ages. Small class size = plenty of attention.
All personal protection and use of tools and materials are included. Suitable for beginners.
INTRO TO WOODTURNING

If you have ever seen wood turned on a lathe and been intrigued by the bowls and forms made on it, this one-day workshop will demystify the technique and teach you basic techniques to make a simple bowl and a hardwood barreled pen.
You will be led by expert, Nathan Cardwell who is a passionate woodworker and a patient tutor. When not with us, he teaches woodwork in a London boyās school. Nathan will introduce the parts of the lathe and explain how to safely secure your work, the methods to use with each chisel and how to sand and finish your projects.
During the day you will learn the āHeadstock methodā to make a small bowl in hardwood and āSpindle turningā to make a wooden tube that fits into a metal pen mechanism.
We will supply everything so come with curiosity and enthusiasm and leave with satisfaction, a bowl and a ready-to-use rollerball pen.
We will also advise you on how to continue this fascinating hobby with guidance on buying your own lathe, tools and timber.

**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is rapidly changing how developers write, understand, and maintain code. Powered by generative AI and deeply integrated into modern development environments, Copilot acts as an intelligent coding assistant, helping developers move faster while maintaining quality and focus.
In this session, weāll explore what GitHub Copilot is, how it works, and where it fits into a real-world developer workflow. Weāll break down what Copilot can (and cannot) do, where it can be used, and how licensing differs for individuals and organizations. Most importantly, this talk goes beyond theory with a live, hands-on demo showcasing Copilot inside the IDE and on GitHub, demonstrating how it can assist with code generation, refactoring, learning new APIs, and accelerating day-to-day development tasks.
Designed for developers, technical leads, and engineering managers, this session provides a practical introduction to AI-assisted development, highlights best practices for getting value from Copilot, and closes with guidance on how to continue learning and evolving alongside this rapidly advancing tool.
Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how GitHub Copilot can enhance productivity, improve developer experience, and fit into modern software teams today, not someday.

Step into a world where strategy meets artistry ā and where every painted figure tells a story of battle, honor, and imagination. Join **Daclaud** at **The Arcane Foundry** for an evening that introduces newcomers and enthusiasts alike to the timeless craft of **tabletop wargaming** and **miniature painting**.
My own journey began with a fascination for fantasy ā knights in armor, grim and hardened warriors, and monstrous creatures locked in epic battle. That passion led me to **Dungeons & Dragons**, where I painted my first **Basic Heroes set** and felt the spark that comes from bringing a character to life in miniature form. Not long after, I discovered **Warhammer Fantasy** and **Warhammer 40,000**, and I was hooked. The vision of vast armies clashing across the table ā each unit meticulously painted, each story unfolding through dice and imagination ā became my creative obsession.
During this event, weāll explore the **origins of wargaming**, from its early military simulations to the richly detailed worlds of modern tabletop battle systems. Youāll learn how to **build and customize your own armies**, paint your first figures, and experience the joy of turning strategy and storytelling into a hands-on art form.
Whether youāre drawn by the lore, the hobby, or the thrill of commanding miniature legions, this introduction will open the gates to a world that has captivated hobbyists for generations.
